George W. Bush?

WOO HOO!! :hehe2::cheers1:

Great speech by President Obama!

I just have to say what the HELL was Aretha Franklin wearing? It looked like a giant gray bow. :hehe2: Not the thing to wear. LOL.

I was more concerned about that WIG she had on...UGH!

But you know what? Aretha can wear anything she wants...she's the QUEEN OF SOUL! And she was there to do what she does best! I can't believe Beyonce thought SHE would get picked OVER Aretha to sing at the inauguration, talk about ARROGANCE!

LOL! :hehe2: She needs one of Whitney's wigs. Maybe she'd look a little better. ;)

I still don't see Aretha as the Queen of Soul. I would have rather preferred to see Beyonce than Aretha lol. You really don't hear too much from Aretha or at least I haven't lol. I think a fresh face would have been better lol.

The words of babies, lol. Really, Aretha is the accepted Queen of Song in the Black community. Only Patti LaBelle is on her level with not quite as much seniority. If it had not been Aretha, it would have been Patti. After that, probably Shirley Caesar AND Mariah Carey would have also been ahead of Beyonce. Don't get me wrong, she would have done GREAT, and looked even better, but it HAD to be Aretha or Patti or it would have been just wrong.

you sure you want to say that? Patti has been doing her thing since 1958! That EASILY puts her in the same realm of senority as Aretha with Cher and Tina Turner being the "younger half" of that fab four. I think this warrants a spin off topic in "SPIN" :D

I had heard that Patti was a strong contender if not Aretha and then Shirley Ceaser as well...but the LESS i see of Mariah and Beyonce, the BETTER :nod:

Either way, Aretha did her job well.

Point taken. Aretha only started 2 years earlier, but Patti spent a TON of time in groups, although as the head of them. Aretha has more seniority as a solo artist as Patti wasn't solo until the mid-70s or so.

I like Bush. I don't agree with everything he did, but he was (and is) a man of conviction. I think Obama is a very polished and engaging speaker, but I think he's all flash and no substance. Look at this guys Geithner who was just confirmed as treasury secretary despite his apparent inability to pay his own taxes. Is that really the wisest decision for the person who is supposed to "fix" our economy? I thought there were a few refrences to socialism in Obama's inaugural speech and that makes me very uncomfortable. I know I'm in the minority around here, but I gotta' hold it down for the conservatives.
