Which generation are you a apart of? What do you think stands out about your generation?

I'm a part of Generation X (1966 thru 1979 although some theorists & geneaologists will say it ends no later than 1982).

Generation X is the SMALLEST generational group among the Baby Boomers (our parents) & Generation Y (aka Millenials ; our later born siblings or children). It's interesting that the Boomers are the parents of both Generation X & a large portion of Generation Y but some of the kids born on the tail end of Generation Y are the earliest offspring of the oldest Generation X'ers. We're often referred to as the MTV generation

I am Gen X...we get the distinction of making less than Mommy and Daddy with no pensions and higher costs. Yay?

But your generation has no kids (EXPENSIVE!!) and will benefit from the collapsed housing market as new buyers. Those houses belong to us.

the Boomers refuse to step aside & all of the things they taught us [ work hard, go to school, get a job, buy a house, retire] are not panning out for US the way it did them. most of us in Gen X will not see pensions/retirement & we probably wont be able to use social security even though we've paid into it just like they have.

the Boomers are the largest of the four generations listed & continue to cause change in perceptions about things like age (e.g. "40 is the new 30")

Case in point...my inlaws (whom I love DEARLY) make six figures in retirement income and my they both STILL work post-retirement jobs for which they are overqualified and claim poverty.

The Boomers seem to have a sense of entitlement & continue to "live in the moment" even as they age OUT of the moment. I think @ least the earlier half of Generation X had the same idea that they'd be able to live the american dream as their boomer parents but for the later half of Gen X (the part im in) we're seeing that's not even the case. :(
