The battle over digital game distribution just took a turn for the ugly. Video game retail giant GameStop has been opening up brand new PC game boxes of the critically-acclaimed shooter Deus Ex: Human Revolution and removing packed-in coupons granting free copies of the game to users of the OnLive cloud gaming service.

Wow. I'm not nearly as active in video games as i was back in the day BUT just looking @ this from a customer point of view, Gamestop's actions here were highly unethical if not illegal. When I buy products from stores whether its computer accessories or even small appliances in the past, sometimes in the packaging there were manufacturer coupons or special offer coupons from companies totally unconnected to the store & not once have i EVER heard about Sears, Target or the stores I've bought products that had prepacked coupons opening the package to remove them & then resealing it & passing it off as "brand new."

Gamestop should be ashamed & penalized for this. They are totally abusing their customers with this practice.

yeah this is going to hit Gamestop had they really have no way of recovering from this kind of negative press, and with stores shutting down and the big move to online disturbers like Steam they really can't afford these kinds of mess ups

hell i can't remember the last time i was in a gamestop

Personally I think it's shameful how Gamestop sells used games for only like $5 less than new, but probably gives the person bringing it in like $2 for it lol

But yeah, this is disgusting and as you said I'm sure illegal behavior. One word: lawsuit.

IKR? I've got an acquaintence down here who recently tried selling a game back to them - Marvel v Capcom3 (which totally sucks btw). He'd had it for under 3 months & was so dissatisfied with it, he just didnt want it anymore. Everything was intact & hardly touched but the amount they offered him was ridiculous. He couldve got more for it craigslist or ebay!
