Does anyone here use that "foursquare" or "check in" stuff when you're on FB, twitter etc?

I don't even have a twitter & I don't use any of that stuff b/c a)i dont think where I'm going is "news" & b) i dont want ppl knowing where I'm @ any given moment! I feel like that's just an open window for a stalker or someone to target you.

Yeah, I don't 'check in' anywhere either. I do have Facebook and I do have twitter but I don't 'check in' anywhere.

I'm not sure how it works but I think you need to have a smartphone in order to 'check in'? I'm paranoid at that. FB always wants me to give them my cell # in case something happens but I can't. I'm too paranoid. Same with Google, actually. But I don't give them my number. No. :)

yeah I never use my FB anymore. I just dont have time or the inclination. Google asks me for my phone # I skip that everytime. I also paused my browsing history so they won't track where i browse online.

I don't have a smartphone either lol. still my feature phone. 1) i dont care to pay extra $ for a "data plan" & 2) of all the things i need or want to spend 100s of dollars on, a phone isnt one of them LOL

i guess i show my age w/ how cheap I am when it comes to that or my resistence to some of this tech stuff but oh well.

I do not check in at all. I do have a smartphone (as does my wife) but it was a commonsense transition. I got one while in school to help me do lookups in class instead of a laptop. When I bought one this year I was offered one for free and gave it to my wife for Valentine's Day to help her process credit cards for her jewelry business.

My wife and I only mark pics after the fact when we decide to put them on FB, for the grandparents. For example, a picture taken at church is marked for the church we went to, or at Maddie's gymnastics class when pics are from there.

I don't foursquare or checkin for anything, i do have and enjoy my social networks but adding my GPS info to everything i touch seems like a little too invasion of privacy to me.

Even when doing normal internet browsing i use Firefox and several privacy aiding addons/extensions to help prevent viruses as well as both illegal and annoying tracking (Ghostery, Noscript, Adblock Plus with non intrusive Ads allowed and do-not-track enabled). The use of people as commodities without explicit consent is not a practice i support online.

Think I tried the check in thingy once... but that's it.

Can't imagine that anyone would be interested anyway.

And even though I'm not sure who can read those check ins I think it's generally not a good idea to announce when I'm out of town and that my apartment is empty.

I don't use check ins, some, i do have a facebook and twitter, but im not that active anymore, i started feeling a little anti social after i got a smartphone so i do try to restrict my usage, but sometimes the phone comes in very handy.

I don't really use my Facebook, so I don't personally check in, but I have been checked in, in a few places by friends.

I don't really see the appeal, and I have 2 friends that I know use it to piss one another off, they'll check me in to tell the other I'm with them.

But I have also used it usefully, like been out in town on nights out and friends checked in in a place near by and we all met up.

But I don't get why people check in all over the place it seems weird to me.
