I'll tell you in another lifetime when we are both
I just watched Million Dollar Baby, I knew nothing of the film except it was about boxing. Usually boxing films are just movies that (metaphorically) depict striving through adversity in order to achieve the great American Dream and riches. But not this film 1hr and 45mins in and Clint Eastwood's (Director) destruction of Hilary Swanks character is nothing short of brutally magnificent.

I actually couldn't take much more so I had to stop watching it and briefly post this. As it got me thinking what films made you cry or got emotional and why?

I cry during Casablanca when they play the Marseilleise (sp?) every time. I don't know why really, just an emotional scene I guess. And in A League of Their Own when the telegram comes to the locker room. And when Goose dies in Top Gun.

i was moved to tears during the violent death of Sally Field's daughter in "Eye for an eye". When Sally Field's character (Karen i think her name is) was running through the city streets trying desperately to get someone to dial 911 to send help to her daughter who was being brutally raped by that maniac....the chaos and the anguish in Sally's voice ....and how she just wouldnt get off the phone...she wouldnt "leave her daughter".

up to the moment where the man smashed the ice sculpture in the poor girl's face and killed her....<<sigh>

also "What's Love got to do with it" , the Tina Turner bio pic. that movie was so powerful and raw. I was very unsettled and moved to tears during the scenes of domestic violence. Laurence Fishbourne did such a good job playing Ike Turner....i had to REMIND myself that he was the ACTOR and not the actualy Ike Turner. That movie was just so emotionally draining to watch....but the ending was so uplifting it was good that it went out on a positive, triumphant note.

As an overly heterosexual male, a man who doesn't believe in public affection of any kind, a guy who subscribes to the old school men's mentality . .

I admit I have cried at the following movies

1. Gladiator
2. Titanic
3. The Patriot (my son's were better men :( )
4. Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith

I wouldn't say I ever cry when I watch movies, though I get misty-eyed (hey, there's a difference). :p

For me, movies which explore the father-son relationship in dramatic ways and in which fathers die tend to strike a chord with me since I was raised by a single father. Oddly enough, though, I can't really think of any at the moment.

Oooh, I'm a crier. But the two movies that I have never ever failed to cry at are Braveheart (I sob all the way from Wallace's capture all the way to the end, but I really don't get going until the crowd starts asking for mercy on his behalf) and Return of the King. (Frodo at the Grey Havens. Gets me everytime.) There are quite a few that I've cried at the first time. Finding Neverland is one, and I still have yet to not cry at Serenity (but I've only seen it three times)

I too am very emotional during movies, lol, I can't help it. :vamp: These guys get me everytime!

Top Gun - I agree with Vil when Maverick's friend is killed.

Backdraft -- When Kurt Russell dies, it was so sad!

Ladder 49 -- When the lead character dies and they visit his wife.

Ghost -- When Molly finally sees Sam and he has to go.

Daredevil -- The death of Elektra

Titanic -- Obviously

Platoon -- When the one guy is shot while watching the squad fly away.

Gladiator -- When he dies

Crash -- When I thought the little girl was shot, jumping in the line of the bullet.

Cruel Intentions -- When Sebastian is killed.

Philadelphia - Everything he went through with having AIDS, especially the end.

BEACHES -- Oh my God! I cry everytime I watch this, the friendship between them and when Hilary dies. :(

Forest Gump -- Everything he went through but also how he lost his mother and Jenny.

ET -- I didn't want ET to go home!! lol It was sad.

Moulin Rouge - When Satine dies.

Finding Neverland - When Peter is sitting on the bench crying and James (Johnny Depp) said that he could visit his mom in Neverland anytime he wanted. SO SAD!

The Horse Whisperer - The very beginning scene when the horses get hit by the truck. And when they finally find Grace's horse under the bridge. :(

Homward Bound - When Shadow doesn't immediately come out of the brush to greet his family. :(

(I'm a sucker for animal scenes as you probably can tell)

Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants - When Tibby is begging Baily to take the pants because they'll help her. And Baily said they already did help her, they brought them to Tibby.

Titanic - Like Heather said...obvious! LOL

I've been thinking more about this of late and I must be one of those new age men who are all emotional or something! I just get really involved with films (Part of the reason I studied media and its industry - and love getting involved in all sides of production). I don't cry.... but my chest gets all tight and my heart hurts...

I got 'emotional' during the following:

When Optimus Died in Transformers The Movie.

The Family Man - I couldn't even tell you what part or why.

City of Angels - When she died, oh my god why couldn't they just be happy?

Five Heartbeats - When Eddie King Jr was singing in the church at the end, touching moment truly.

Hero (Ying xiong, Jet li, 2002) - All of it! That film is and probably will be the most beautiful I've ever seen!

House of Flying Daggers - When she pulls the knife out of her heart to save her love thereby sacrificing her life.

Titanic - Doesn't need an explanation, no one can truly say they weren't feeling this.

Man in the Iron Mask - Seeing D'Artagnan die is something I didn't need to go through.

Gattaca - I can't explain why or how but this film is my all time favourite. It gets me everytime!

all you vagabonds who cried while watching the "Titanic" need to GET A GRIP LOL! :haha:

just kidding! ;) but im probably one of the few who actually was unmoved by that movie. most of it was pretty damn boring to me until the big disaster began to unfold...and at that point i became interested...the cinematography was flawless.

but that movie as a whole was pretty hokey to me...i didnt cry at all while watching THAT movie.

No, I concur. I don't think it had enough character development to make me care about the characters plights. That said, I think for the most part Titanic is either:

over-rated by people (like those who went to it in theaters more than twice - I know people who have gone 14 times)

over-hated by people who get angry that it's so popular when it's really not all that great of a movie

Totally - such a great film. When he gets in there with the medal...

And yes Backdraft - "You go, we go."

Oh hush up you heartless cow! :vamp: :p Jessica also was unmoved by this movie, in fact she LAUGHED at the end! :sure:

I was utterly moved by it all from beginning to end. I think what bugged people was the length of the movie, towards the end I wanted to get up and stretch.

Yes, City of Angels and Moulin Rouge made me cry. LOL! Sam, I think if you and I were to see all of these movies, we would be crying throughout every scene and Farrah would be rolling her eyes or filing her nails. :D

I seriously cried at the end of Bambi, even though its a Disney film I was so upset when his mother was killed. :(

Don't even get me started about Disney's!:'(

To this day I still get caught up in the magic of it all! And I get sad at the fact that the film has ended and I'm not going to see the characters ever again....

That said when Mufasa was thrown of the cliff by Scar and died was a truly tearfull moment. And to this day i maintain that when Simba went to check on his Dad you can see the actual moment when he realised the truth... that in itself was another tear jerking moment all in the space of 5mins.

I have to admit though I've never seen Bambi....

Vil for me the music in Gattaca and seeing all the restricted body actions adding to the tension and emotional repression of the film was enough to get me going and phrases such as 'I never knew how far away I was from my goal than when I was standing right next to it'. Struck deep into my bodies emotion center......

Have I mentioned Green Mile.... Jeez that film is said the first time I watched it I was with my ex, I looked over at her when the Big Black guy died and she was close to getting on her knees screaming 'why lord why?' At first I thouhgt it was something I done...

The Family Man - that was Nick Cage, right? That was a great film...

The one that gets me the most is Legend of Bagger Vance, nominally a golf story, primarily a story of hope and redemption.

I also got more involved in Rocky I than I ever thought I would...

Ok, first off...I was 13. I still thought Leonardo DiCaprio was "SOOO cute". Blah. Anyway, I still watch this movie, and I still cry. Not at Jack's death, that's hokey and sort of makes me laugh. It's all the stuff before it. The old couple holding each other, the Irish mom telling her kids the story of Niamh and Oisin, except she leaves out the sad ending, the band playing 'Nearer My God, to Thee" awww! Gets me every time.

Oooh Lion King, my older brother took me to see it in the theaters and I cried. :( Disney films seem to incoporate that sadness to it. Simba was a cute character and it was sad to see his reaction.

Heavenly Creatures and Girl, Interrupted. I can cry for hours. And Lilja 4-ever, although that one really makes me feel like dying...

House of Flying Daggers, Gladiator, Casablanca... and a whole bunch of others I can't think of to list off just now, I bawled my eyes out.

Never actually -saw- Titanic though.
