MP -- Apt 6
Clara sipped her brandy, seated on the sofa, leaned back against the armrest with Johnny 'next' to her, her legs stretched over his lap. He supported one of her knees with his right hand as he used his left to extract all the glass, gently wiping the lacerations, applying neosporin and strategically placing bandaids. A slow smile creeped onto her face… first of all… she couldn't help but noticing how tender his touch was [and DAMN her sister

for putting the idea in her head that Johnny liked her, because now she couldn't ignore ANYTHING]. Secondly --and this was the more amusing part-- he was SO CONCENTRATED on patching her up, she could swear he was in some kind of ZONE.
Thunder crashed and darkness enveloped them. Clara felt Johnny pause, she lit the immediate area with a plasma sphere in the palm of her hand. They exchanged 'oh well' glances. Johnny mentioned the candles Claudia'd had all over the bathroom. Clara gave a nod, draining the last bit of her brandy and sitting forward a little, about to withdraw her legs from his lap when the earthquake hit. Still illuminating the area around them, Clara clasped her other hand on Johnny's shoulder for stability. Books and other objects rattled off their shelves, glasses fell out of the cabinets. Both of them were unsure of what to do… this WAS, after all… their first earthquake and it was quite an intense one… a little scary. Unsteadily, Clara set her glass on the coffee table [only to see it vibrate its way off the edge and fall to the floor], and offered a suggestion:
"Let's go get my sister. We can't leave her in there to face this alone."
Johnny nodded and they helped each other to their feet… wobbling a little as they tried to make their way to Claudia's room, Clara lighting the way, though her plasma wasn't TERRIBLY bright, it was enough for them both to see down the hall and so she didn't bother amping it up to a small star… they didn't need it… or so she THOUGHT. Her heel caught something on the floor awkwardly, and she took an uncharacteristically SPILL right there in the hall, slipping out of Johnny's lose supportive grip. Her 'light' went out in surprise and so she wasn't sure WHAT it was but as she landed haphazardly on the carpet, catching herself with her hands but still crashing down on her hip, something CRUNCHED beneath her and she could feel some hard objects scattered around her on the carpet. She was going to create more plasma-- but a FIRE erupted nearby and lit up the area… and she got a look at what was on the carpet… there were…. BONES…. ALL OVER the place! She gasped as Johnny quickly lifted her to her feet, pushing her down the hall to avoid the fire.
"Ugh… what the…"
They reached Claudia's door, and she instinctively reached for the handle, only to shriek with pain as she got BURNED by knob. In her rush she'd somehow missed that the doorknob was glowing WHITEHOT. The earthquake wasn't letting up…. The fire RAGED and now Johnny and Clara were trapped in the hall. Clara BANGED on the door, yelling loudly for her sister to let them in, to no avail. She tried to blast the door open with plasma energy… but succeeded only in scorching it badly. Any 'stronger' an attempt and she risked setting the door itself on fire. The earthquake ITSELF was scary enough… being trapped by the fire created even more tension… but the bones… they were everywhere… there was… screaming… a chorus of wailing surrounding them. It was unlike anything she'd EVER experienced and it was terrifying!
"Johnny, what's HAPPENING?!?"
Johnny: "I… I don't know! Come on, we've got to get OUT of here before this place comes down on top of us!"
He reached for her, ready to transport them out of the apartment but she turned back to the door to her sister's room, renewed efforts to get in.
"No, we can't leave my sister! There's a fire extinguisher in the kitchen! Claudia! [banging an open palm on the door] CLAUDIA!!"
Johnny disappeared and then reappeared again, fire extinguisher in hand, doing his best to hold off the blaze while Clara tried desperately to get through the door. She could SWEAR the doors weren't THIS STURDY earlier! They weren't back in their mansion where thick oak doors were custom… this flimsy, hollow apartment door should NOT be holding up so well and Clara was doing her BEST to keep a calm head.
