Episode III Tops Memorial Day Weekend

George Lucas' Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith added another $70.8 million over the four-day Memorial Day holiday weekend to bring its massive 12-day total to $271.2 million. The $113 million budgeted third and final prequel has climbed to the 26th spot on the all-time domestic blockbuster list. Worldwide, the Fox release has pulled in an incredible $520.1 million already, allowing it to sit at #32 on the worldwide all-time list.
DreamWorks Animation's Madagascar, featuring the voices of Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, Jada Pinkett Smith and David Schwimmer, earned just $1 million more than Paramount comedy The Longest Yard, which opened in less theaters. The animated family comedy debuted in 4,131 theaters to $61 million and averaged $14,766 per site.
Remake The Longest Yard, starring Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, Nelly and Burt Reynolds, earned $60 million during the four days from 3,634 theaters and cost about $82 million to make.
New Line Cinema's Monster-in-Law, starring Jennifer Lopez and Jane Fonda, dropped two spots to fourth with $11.1 million in its third weekend. The $43 romantic comedy has collected $60.7 million so far.
Will Ferrell's Kicking & Screaming rounded out the top five with $6.5 million. The Universal Pictures comedy has earned $44.2 million in three weeks.
Lions Gate Films' Crash added $6 million from just 1,680 theaters in its fourth weekend. The Paul Haggis drama has now made $36.1 million.
