Los Angeles (CNN) -- Elizabeth Taylor, the legendary actress famed for her beauty, her jet-set lifestyle, her charitable endeavors and her many marriages, has died, her publicist told CNN Wednesday. She was 79.

Aww I knew she had went in for some health issues recently but she was on the mend as of last month...or so it seemed. She lived a long life with an amazing career, broke many hearts and was one of Michael Jackson's biggest supporters/best friends. Their relationship was always interesting to me and when he died...the last time she spoke about him publicly you could see her grief had taken a toll on her.
Its a big coincidence that just last week an associate and I were talking about her "Cleopatra" film and how tacky it was that Kim Kardashian had tried copying her in a photo shoot recently.
its very sad. but at least she was not alone. all of her children were with her as she passed.
Liz is a true icon for so many reasons. I dont think any of US were alive during her career as a full time actress (and she's the last surviving actress of the "golden age" of hollywood i read today) but my first memories of her are when she called for the fight against AIDS during the hysteria over the disease in the early 80s. At this time, NOBODY, not even the PRESIDENT was willing to address the issue...people (including the president) called it the "homosexual's disease" and there was not the level of education or understanding about it as there is now...andso when Rock Hudson became the first known (at the time) celebrity to die of AIDS it sent more shockwaves.
SO in the midst of all that, Liz was on live TV holding a press conference and during her speech in memory of her friend Rock she said "it's time to FIGHT this disease" and she literally became the first big name celebrity to bring discussing and mounting the fight against AIDS to the front. She literally gave birth to "AIDS activism". she campaigned for aids research, funded it with her own money (millions of dollars over 3 decades now), spoke to congress and other law makers about laws to protect aids victims from discrimination and to spur education/awarenss of the disease and how to protect from getting it. when we talk about HIV/AIDS today...anybody younger than 25 will NOT remember the TERROR and hysteria that gripped america over this disease back in the early 80s when the CDC announced the first "official" diagnosed cases of it. The way people acted about it...the way people treated people who were known to have it etc...to look back on it now it would make you cringe. Liz was a BIG factor in helping everybody stop being scared and get educated and fight the disease in some way shape or form.
She was also known for her 8 marraiges, two of them being to the same guy. She loved as hard as she worked and played.
The last movie i saw her in was "These old broads" in 2001. It starred her, Shirley Mcclaine, Joan Collins and Debbie Reynolds and it was really witty and funny as hell. That was the last film she did before retiring as an actress.
And ironically enough, Tony Geary was on Oprah this past year and revealed that he and Elizabeth Taylor had an affair for a few years after her stint on GH. I thought that was pretty interesting.
