The people have spoken. Elisabeth Hasselbeck, one of the five cohorts of ABC's daytime talk show The View, will not be returning to the couch next season, following hot on the footsteps of fellow cohost Joy Behar, a source tells Us Weekly.

According to the source, the show's resident conservative voice is being ousted after market research revealed that she isn't popular with TV audiences.

"The viewers they polled all said she was too extreme and right wing," the insider tells Us. "People did not watch the show because of Elisabeth. So they told her yesterday her contract would not be renewed."

When reached for comment, a rep for the show told Us in a statement: "Elisabeth Hasselbeck is a valued member of The View and has a long term contract."

Hasselbeck, 35, joined the cast of the daytime talk show in November 2003 after guest-hosting the show following Lisa Ling's departure in 2002.

Throughout the course of her time on The View, she has gotten into numerous arguments with her cohosts, including a heated argument with Rosie O'Donnell in 2007 over the War in Afghanistan and with Barbara Walters over Mitt Romney in 2012.
Earlier this week, Behar, 70, announced her own departure from the show after 16 1/2 years.

"You can't stay forever on a show," she told Good Morning America. "I am graciously exiting stage left. I've put in 16 1/2 years and felt the time was right. I want to explore other opportunities."

Adds the source to Us: "Joy says it just felt ... tired and like work. She was over it."
Behar has been with the talk show since its inception in 1997, and currently hosts Joy Behar: Say Anything! on Current TV.

She may have been too extreme in her values and beliefs, but I would've thought that would be what you wanted in a talk show such as this. It would've totally sucked if EVERYBODY thought the same way.

Besides, who will viewers lampoon from now on? ;)

so...it ONLY took them 9 years to realize that Hassleback was a stupid bitch & a major turn off? LOL :haha:

as much as i loathe & despise her...& as much as i feel she's a disgrace to womankind all around...I do acknowledge that she provided a much needed ingredient to the mix of this show. like SL said...would anybody be watching the View if EVERYONE agreed on everything?

Hassleback's opinions were often uninformed & yet very telling (about how she & others like her really thought about minorities & other issues). She deserved that EPIC tongue lashing she got from Rosie O'Donell several years ago (which can still be seen on youtube :D) & many other snubs, barbs & retorts she's received from guests & other co-hosts. If you're gonna dish it out, be prepared to take it.

With her gone, Sherry Shephard will now be the most "conservative" of the group (she's very homophobic among other things). I can't stand to hear her took most of the time.

I JUST read about Joy Behar leaving earlier today (I know @ least ONE person on this board who's gonna be happy about THAT :D :haha: :p ) I wish she'd stay...she was definitely a nice alternative to Barbara's pretentious ways & Whoopi's often stoic attitude. Joy was flat out funny.

Joy is FUNNY though :haha:

Hassleback has the wit of a stone. She talks ALOT of shit but can't handle it when an OUNCE is given back to her (see Rosie O'Donnell or Bill Maher).

When Joy is called to the carpet on her remarks, she takes what she has coming. Hassleback has always come across as though she should be able to say what she wants, pass it off as fact & not be challenged over it. I think what first struck me about her is that she & I are the same age...& yet she's so uninformed! But there she is, on that set , reaching millions of ppl a day w/ her narrow minded remarks & influencing them...

See, I think the only difference with Joy is at you like her - she has no more business influencing people's opinions than Elizabeth does.

And it looks as if that was completely false, if THIS report is to be believed [I never should've posted the first article; that's what I get for believing a weekly tabloid ].

NEW YORK, N.Y. - No need to say goodbye to Elisabeth Hasselbeck. She's staying put as a co-host of "The View" despite reports insisting otherwise.

Series co-creator Barbara Walters called that story "particularly false" on Monday's edition of the ABC daytime talk show. She says that "we have no plans for Elisabeth to leave."

She also denied reports that Hasselbeck has lost favour with "The View" for her conservative political stances, something Walters says "we value and appreciate."
Hasselbeck has been on "The View" for a decade.

Walters also confirmed that Joy Behar will exit the show in August. Behar was among the first co-hosts with Walters when "The View" debuted in 1997. She announced her planned departure last week.

Besides Walters, the remaining panel includes Whoopi Goldberg and Sherri Shepherd.

Too bad. I will keep avoiding it. She is an idiot and I was hopeful that she would be rolling out.

It irritates me when shows go out of their way to include a 'conservative' voice and yet there is a whole channel with no progressive voices. A WHOLE CHANNEL!! Not to mention a dominating anti-progressive tone on talk radio...conservatives never make this much effort.

Ah well, whatever.

Funny you should say that...MSNBC starts the day with Joe Scarborough and moves through featuring Michael Steele at every turn. You turn to FOX and...nothing. CNN, always a prominent conservative voice featured. Back to FOX and...nothing.

The extreme liberal media bias is a meme. The fact is that what is passing for liberal now is often hardly liberal and definitely is widely supported and popular.

I am no fan of Hasselbeck not just because she is SO conservative. I am not a fan because she is so obviously out of place. She DOES turn people away.

Conservatism would find more followers if it were represented by more people like Scarborough or Steele. And I disagree with them a good bit but at least they make SENSE when they speak.

We're just going to have to agree to disagree on the liberal media. That's all I see on the major network news, not to mention all the talk shows and Hollywood.

Gotcha. Though I would point out that Hollywood is hardly the media.

Now, to be fair, I actually really like Jenny McCarthy. She won me over when she went on Letterman and took a sharpie to a magazine cover she was on, showing all the places they had photoshopped on it.

:)

No I love her too, I just can't picture her sitting next to Barbara Walters and discussing foreign policy but who knows she may surprise. I loved all her books and am interested in seeing how she does! That being said, they really need a republican conservative on that show...otherwise it basically becomes The Talk lol

Sheryl Underwood, a regular guest on the Tom Joyner Morning Show (check any adult urban/r&b radio station in the morning between 7 & 8 am and you should hear it), has frequently sated she's a republican & she was a LOUD supporter for John Mccain. I couldn't tell if she was joking @ first :sure: but it became clear she wasnt after a while. Now I don't watch "The Talk" very often, so I haven't seen much of her in action on there...but Sharon Osborne annoyed the HELL out of me when I DID watch it & she was on there

As for Hassleback, GOODBYE! :haha: she will be right @ home on Fox a.k.a Faux News. Its interesting b/c in these last two seasons, It seemed like she had begun to learn some things from her co-hosts about the way of the world and about LIFE. She was no longer just shouting pure ideological talking points. She seemed to have real opinions based on something more than what the tea party, sarah palin or bill o'rielly said.

but im sure whatever progress in her thinking she has made will be completely erased on Fox News. they don't want intelligent discussion, they wont fear mongering & to get their "base" whipped up into a racist, xenophobic, anti-government frenzy!

I don't know a WHOLE lot about Mccarthy outside of her actress persona. But i know she gave some SERIOUSLY BAD advice, passing herself off as a medical expert & alot of ppl jumped on that band wagon. That's why you're hearing about that church now where EVERYBODY has the measles b/c they, like so many other ppl, latched on to her OPINION about vaccinations & made uninformed decisions.

I was more of "View" watcher & even now I'll watch it online. I was resistant to watching "The Talk" b/c they took the slot of cxl'ed soaps, but The Talk does do alot of promoting & hyping for Y&R and B&B so that has made me soften on it a bit.

If I'm being quite honest... I feel like Sheryl gets marginalized as the "sassy black chick" in the group. Every episode I ever watched basically they present a topic and always ends with Sheryl saying something to the effect of "You white people are crazy? See us black people, we---" or something of that nature. I find her really funny, but it feels like she is sometimes there to be the "Ethnic Comic Relief". I know Aisha Tyler is part of the cast, but Aisha is more of a toned down personality on the show.

I like Jenny McCarthy, I think she's really funny. Plus it's refreshing to see Elizabitch gone. LOL.

BTW, did anyone else know that Jenny McCarthy and Melissa McCarthy were cousins?! I just thought they shared the same last name, but I found that out from a yahoo article this week and was blown away. Very cool!

Yep, they're cousins. Cause remember Jenny took Rex Reed to TOWN after he made fun of Melissa's weight. Another reason I like her.
