How Spike Lee's 'Do the right thing' still resonates, 25 years later
------------------------
I remember seeing this film & it was definitely an eye opening, thought provoking experience. It's a film you can watch multiple times & pick up something new each time. & of course one of the most memorable moments of the film was the opening, featuring a furiously dancing Rosie Perez! That was art in motion for sure.
The movie itself was loosely based on the life of a graffiti artist, who died due to asphyxiation while in police custody...in the wake of the Eric Garner tragedy its like a horrible example of life imitating art.
I personally feel like the things this film shows & the real incidents happening today are a chilling indicator that in some ways, we as a society are going backwards. This movie still serves to hold up a mirror to us all about race relations in this country & we need to confront what we see & do something about it together. ALL of us
