Dawn of the other lights

They snooped arond until they found the craziest Gym ever, complete with exotic weapons straight out of a Shaw Brothers Kung Fu move. Naturally the cute Asian chick picks up a sword and goes Crouching Tiger on it, complete with a dissertation on ancient swordmaking.

Truly one of the worlds most perfect weapon."

Leaning the swords scabbard against the wall, Ana-Leigh took the weapon with both hands.

"The metal can be folded hundreds of times to form a single blade. It's more a work of art than a weapon really."

Smiling, she realized how ridiculous she probably sounded fawning over a weapon. But hell, boys had their cars, girls had their name brands, she had weapons. She never claimed to be "normal".

Using her wrist to twirl the weapon effortlessly, it was light as a feather. A true sign of how well crafted it was.

"So, where do you want to begin?"

The display had him smiling ear to ear. Damsel-in-distress she was NOT.

We may as well start on the sparring. You seem to have found something to do. My turn. Just in case, the safe word is "Peace".

and with that Rich's eyes turned yellow, and he shrugged slowly as he turned...

...into a true-as-day werewolf, complete with fur, teeth and claws, and now-tattered clothing. Howling, he rushed quickly at the pretty co-ed. He would NEVER hurt her, but he did want her to understand that there was LOT more out there than armored flatline goons, and so he planned to see what she was REALLY made of.

Rich: We may as well start on the sparring. You seem to have found something to do. My turn. Just in case, the safe word is "Peace".

"You better become familiar with that word, you're going to need it."

She said grinning from ear to ear as she took a fighting stance with her weapon at the ready. Watching Rich transform into a werewolf, Ana-Leigh's brow raised in shock. She was expecting him to pick a weapon himself, or maybe change his arms into weapons or something. But a werewolf? That was all types of crazy. As he came charging at her, there was nothing more she could do but defend herself.

The sword began to glow a brilliant blue as she kinetically charged it. Just as Rich's werewolf form reached her, she slammed the point of the sword into the mat creating a concussive shockwave which slammed into his body sending him flying backwards across the mat. If she was going to fight him, she wasn't going to do it with one of the deadliest swords in weaponry; this was training, not a massacre. So while he was bouncing back from her attack, Ana-Leigh grabbed the bo staff that was on the wall figuring that was probably the least harmful weapon. Swinging it in the air and around her body, she got back into her defensive stance and waited.

[smirking] "Here doggie, doggie, doggie."

Just he closed in on her, Ana unleashed a concussive attack that pushed him back into the air. Flipping back as he orchestrated a somersault, Rich landed on all fours and shook it off in time to see her grab a Bo Stick.

[smirking] "Here doggie, doggie, doggie."

Nice move. Let's try again.

He ran at Ana full blast, but as she swung a true immobilizing strike he changed again....

...into hundreds of butterflies, fluttering harmlessly past her....

...and coalescing behind her as Rich again as he grabbed her from behind. He had turned into a metallic substance as he grabbed the Bo with immense strength.

Now what?

As she swung the bo staff at a charging Rich, suddenly he burst into a cloud of butterflies. Taken aback some, she began to swat the butterflies unsure of exactly what to do. However he quickly transformed back into a singular solid mass, grabbing her from behind in a vice grip. His body felt like metal, and as she struggled, she could see his arms were indeed a metallic silver color.

Rich: Now what?

The staff still in her hand was glowing gold, however it began to glow blinding white as she slammed it down onto his metal foot. She charged it so much that the force would be enough to cause some damage even in his metal form. Pulling away from his grip, she swung the staff around [still charged] and struck him on the side of the neck. Putting some distance between them, Ana-Leigh held the still charged bo staff at the ready.

"I could ask you the same thing?"

Two moves...and if he had not been metal he would STILL be down. Then she had the nerve to have a smart remark to boot...she was SO HAWT.

"I could ask you the same thing?"

But as she spoke to "Rich"...his form crumbled, just a paper-thin metal shell that no longer housed him. As she looked around, warily pacing..the young man materialized to one side, disarming her and grabbing her elbows, locking them both behind her as he held her close. Apparently those years wrestling did hm some good. Richard was now flesh, but still quite strong as he held her secure, Ana only being able to reach his t-shirt which hung a bit loosely from his sides. he still struggled to maintain leverage as he whispered in her ear.

What now?

The 103rd floor was available to Brenda, and it was a good thing, too. She needed to be alone right now. She needed to be away from these people, with all their expectations and anxieties and personal vendettas. She needed to find a place where the only thoughts she heard were her own.

When she reached the suite she found a silence that was like music to her ears, soothing her mind. Whoever this apartment belonged to before, they had tastes that were similar to Brenda's. Expensive, but not gaudy.

She decided to take a hot shower and try to unwind, but it was not to be. A few minutes after stepping in, she began receiving flashes. They were from her parents.... fragments of nightmares where Brenda herself was the cause of all their pain. She shuddered under the broadcast of their torment, leaning against the glass for support, trying to send them solace, trying to counteract what Malice was doing to them. She felt stronger now.... Malice's mental violation had forced leaps of growth.

She HAD to get her parents out of there. She would talk to Delilah tonight at the Parthenon. She would do whatever it took to rescue her parents from that maniac Malice.

She got out of the shower and dressed in a flowy white silk top, some dark skinny jeans and a pair of sandals. She had bailed on lunch with Rich and Ana-Leigh and felt bad about hiding from her problems, but she had needed a mental breather. She resolved to face the world and with that determination, sought out their mental voices. They were down in the gym, half fighting, half flirting. Brenda slipped in unnoticed as the pair grappled a little with their backs to her. She silently pulled the samurai sword from the floor and with a predatory slink, snuck up behind them as Rich asked 'What now?' She laid the cold steel blade against his neck.

"Now you're both dead because you didn't pay attention to your surroundings."

She replied playfully.

Rich's form disappeared from sight after her last attack. Keeping her guard up, she kept her eyes shifting around the gym waiting for him to strike. With her bo staff charged and at the ready, suddenly Rich appeared beside her, disarming her with a single move and locking her arms behind her back.

Rich: Now what?

Struggling, Ana-Leigh needed something to hold--leverage against him so she could counter his attack. The only thing she could reach while he had her arms pinned was his shirt. But just as she was about to counter him, Brenda snuck up on them both with the samurai sword she had discarded earlier.

Brenda: Now you're both dead because you didn't pay attention to your surroundings.

Startled by Brenda's appearance, Ana-Leigh's instinctively began to charge up the only thing she was holding--Rich's shirt. Unfortunately it had unforeseen consequences because Rich's shirt wasn't an actual shirt, it was RICH. Seeing him fall to his knees, Ana-Leigh cupped her hands over her mouth in horror and backed away.

"Oh my God, i'm sorry!"

Brenda: Now you're both dead because you didn't pay attention to your surroundings.

A blade was to his neck. Seems the Blonde one was the swiftest this time. He smirked as he responded.

Wha-...Oh. Good one BREAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUGGGHHH!!

He fell to his knees, his chest on fire. LITERALLY. His uniform mostly 'melted' away and he was writhing, almost naked on the floor, tearing at his chest, the glow of Ana's energy seeping from his eyes and ears.

"Oh my God, i'm sorry!"

He rolled to his back and reached out for them both for a second and then, with a yell, fell back VERY still. He was not breathing.

Watching in horror as Rich fell to the ground, Ana-Leigh kept her hands cup over her face--her eyes glassy with tears. He reached for them before falling limp. He wasn't breathing!! Did she just kill her friend?! An innocent person!?

"Oh my God....Oh my God!"

Brenda quickly knelt next to Rich and began screaming at Ana-Leigh to help her. But she was frozen in shock at the thought that she may have just killed Rich.

Brenda: Ana! HELP ME!

Ana was motionless before finally kneeling next to Rich. Brenda began to give him mouth to mouth while Ana sat there staring in horror. Tears visibly stained her face.

"It was an accident....I didn't....I didn't mean to hurt him...."

Brenda continued to give him mouth to mouth as Ana-Leigh watched, praying it wasn't too late.

Richard's eyes opened abruptly. Brenda was now pretty much just kissing him with her second breath for him and as she pulled back, he sat upright, startling them both. He looked at Ana and wiped the tears from her face.

Ana! I am OK, I am fine. In fact, I am better than FINE. That was...WOW. I feel like I could do ANYTHING right now.

Rich reached out with his hand and turned it into a small cannon. Aiming it at the heavy bag he fired an energy blast that tore it in half.

AWESOME!

He turned back to the pair.

When you turned some of me into energy, it freaked me out at first, my system had no answer for a bit there. But now...Ana can you do that again...whatever you just did? I promise that it will be OK. I got this.

He reached his hand out and grasped the hand of the still-shocked teenager.

Ana-Leigh about jumped out of her skin at Brenda's interruption, and Brenda was going to laugh when things went horribly wrong. Rich yelled and fell to the floor, motionless, as Ana-leigh backed away in terror.

Ana-Leigh: Oh my god, I'm so sorry!

"What did you do? Ana-Leigh? What did you do??"

Ana-Leigh: Oh my god. Oh my god.

Ana-Leigh froze on the spot, leaving Brenda to be the one to react. She dropped the sword and knelt by Rich, who was clearly NOT breathing. Brenda was vaguely familiar with CPR -- she had seen it in a movie or two. Ok, I hope I do this right... She thought, tilting his head back and closing his nose as she breathed into his mouth. His chest filled with air, which she took as a good sign.

"Richard, can you hear me? Richard?? Ana-Leigh, help me!"

Ana-Leigh: It was an accident.... I didn't.... I didn't mean to hurt him....

"I know. I know you didn't. Call for help--"

But she stopped short as Rich abruptly sat up, apparently fine. He assured them that he was fine and turned his arm into a cannon to prove it.

Rich: But now...Ana can you do that again...whatever you just did? I promise that it will be OK. I got this.

Brenda punched him in the arm-- HARD.

"NO! Richard, that scared the daylights out of us! We thought you were DEAD or something. Just give us a second to stop freaking out, okay?"

Brenda punched him in the arm-- HARD for her at least.
"NO! Richard, that scared the daylights out of us! We thought you were DEAD or something. Just give us a second to stop freaking out, okay?"

OK...relax.

Richard stood up, his clothing returning in earnest, and looked solemnly at the pair. Ana was crying still and Brenda was freaked. He wiped a tear from Ana's face and touched Brenda's shoulder.

I am fine. I am sorry I scared you two. That was not my intention. To be honest, it scared me a bit too, like I might die again. Actually something to live for now I suppose.

He looked at the two again. They seemed somewhat better.

We can stop if you want. Or keep going. It is up to you. But I am gonna be FINE. OK?

He winked at the pretty pair and gave his winning smile....

Rich suddenly woke up, like a fire was lit under his ass. He sat up, exclaimed how good he felt, and then proceeded to turn his arm into a cannon and "kill" the punching bag. All the while, Ana sat there stunned. Tears staining her face, unsure of what the hell just happened.

Rich: But now...Ana can you do that again...whatever you just did? I promise that it will be OK. I got this.

Ana's eyes became wide in horror as she smacked the living hell out of his shoulder at the same time Brenda punched his other arm.

Brenda: NO! Richard, that scared the daylights out of us! We thought you were DEAD or something. Just give us a second to stop freaking out, okay?

"I thought I KILLED you for Christ sake!"

Rich: OK...relax.

"I'm not going to relax! I lost control of my powers for a split second and you stopped breathing! What if this turned out differently?! And now you're sitting here all smiles and wanting me to do it again?! Are you FUCKING certifiable?! Next time I COULD kill you."

Ana-Leigh went from petrified to pissed within seconds. She was mostly deflecting because she knew better than to let someone catch her off guard the way Brenda did. And for her to accidentally use her powers? That NEVER happened before. It was frightening and it made her uneasy. Add Rich nearly getting hurt and wanting to go another round made her down right angry.

Standing from the mat, Ana began to walk to the other side of the gym, her fingers grating through her hair as she took a few deep breaths.

Rich: We can stop if you want. Or keep going. It is up to you. But I am gonna be FINE. OK?

"I love how you're acting like you just stubbed your damn toe or something."

She scoffed while kicking a piece of punching bag across the floor.

"I've only ever charged up inanimate objects, Rich. I've never used my power on a living being before. I didn't even know it was POSSIBLE.....You should probably get checked out by Delilah or something."

Ana-Leigh was starting to calm back down. Her anger level was lowering even though she was still slightly panicked that Rich would suddenly turn into a pill of goo at any moment. Regardless, she was beginning to feel "sane" again. Probably a giant relief for the resident telepath too.

Well, it is certainly possible, And unless they can absorb and metabolize that energy they will surely die. Fortunately it seems I can. At least I can when you do THAT. I think it is something unique to the two of us somehow.

He took a few steps toward her. Looking between the two ladies he speaks again.

I can't explain how I know I am OK, but I DO. I somehow know what every part of me is doing all the time. And right now I am as 'full' as I have ever been...I feel like I could do ANYTHING, swear to God.

moment of discovery

<< Being a mutant set one apart from his/her normal baseline counterparts. It was only natural to seek the companyfrom those who shared that unique, often life changing status. It was not just a matter of networking or preference...often it was a question of SURVIVAL and in the case of three, all three were relevant to their situation. >>

<< Richard, Ana-Leigh and Brenda all came from vastly different backgrounds but their status as mutants along with the looming shadow of Mystech that touched each of their lives in different was brought them closer together, under the watcheful eye of veteran, SURVIVOR, Delilah.>>

<< And so, in the safety of the luxurious structure known as Illustra, with the curiosity and desire to test their wonderous abilities, Richard and Ana-Leigh discovered a unique and surprising syngery of their abilities. It was a wild card development that could proove to be most useful in battle and also have the potential to solve the problem Richard had. The result of his own mutation that made him an ultra-omnimorph made him have a constant NEED for energy and sustenance that he struggled to address by eating as much as possible. >>

<< It was a tremendous moment of discovery for them and a sign that Delilah's motley crew was slowly pulling closer together. Bonds of friendship and sense of camaraderie was growing stronger.>>

<< The better for them, as things they had little control of were about to take a deadly turn.>>
