The tragedy in Norway :( It's horrific & especially highlighted b/c this is a place in the world NOT known for gun violence or alot of the other issues & bullshit that plague american society. But the "alleged" shooter (bka MONSTER) here identifies himself as a conservative & a christian. saying that he needed to preserve the EUROPEAN culture & identity above all else & that making room for other cultures just simply isnt acceptable.

History has shown multiple acts of human atrocity, including the holocaust & trans atlantic slave trade were born from/justified (in the minds of those causing them) by far right wing ideaology.

Here is the basic definition of [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conservatism"]Conservatism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia@@AMEPARAM@@/wiki/File:Blue_flag_waving.svg" class="image" title="Blue flag"><img alt="Blue flag" src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/1/17/Blue_flag_waving.svg/70px-Blue_flag_waving.svg.png"@@AMEPARAM@@commons/thumb/1/17/Blue_flag_waving.svg/70px-Blue_flag_waving.svg.png[/ame]. Timothy McVeigh, Hitler & other infamous , mudering figures, including this individual in Norway all subscribed to it & then there's the personality type that is most often associated with it - [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_dominance_orientation"]Social dominance orientation - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame] also known as right wing authoritarianism or the "moral majority".

The basic tenants of conservatism & right wing thinking dont allow any place for anyone who isnt white, male, hetero, RICH, & "christian", even WOMEN are not truly recognized as equal to men in this mindset & there have been several politicians (namely the newly elected tea party individuals that have become increasingly vocal about criticizing women's role in politics in america YET people like Sarah Palin & Michelle Bachman continue to throw their support beind this??)

So I'll just skip to the main question. Is conservatism/right wing ideaology DEADLY? well history certainly seems to bear that out & my own studies & observations in college have lead me to form my strong anti 'right wing' beliefs. what's YOUR take on all this??

I'm very conservative. I haven't killed anyone. This week.

You're bad! LOL! :whip2:

are you conservative in all areas of belief/discussion? I know some people say they are "socially conservative" or "fiscally conservative"

what is your response to the definition of "conservatism" & the personality type- social dominance orientation- that is most often associated w/ it?

I'm very conservative across the board.
Honestly, I didn't read everything in your post because it's late and I'm tired. I certainly wouldn't lump myself in with Hitler or McVeigh though!
I've got friends of all different colors and of religious persuasions other than my own. I think my wife would testify to the fact that I treat her as an equal partner in our marriage and in life. I do think men and women have different strengths and weaknesses, but that's why we make such a good team. I'd certainly vote for Condi Rice if she ever ran for office! Any office!
I'll go back tomorrow and check out your post in it's entirity. I'm sure I'll disagree with it though.
Here's a definition of conservatism I like:
Political conservatism in the United States is both an intellectual/theoretical tradition and a popular political movement.
As an intellectual tradition, political conservatism does not necessarily focus on any particular political position or issue. In fact, most conservative traditionalists disagree with one another over a number of issues including (but not limited to) abortion, stem cell research, capital punishment, the environment and war. Nevertheless, these intellectual traditionalists tend to subscribe to the same conservative principles, those being primarily the importance of family, but also a small or limited government, a strong national defense and free enterprise.
I realize that's very general, but I like it.
