Sorry, Charlie, but this week’s tiny uptick in ratings simply wasn’t enough to keep your Angels aloft.

ABC has shut down production on its reboot of Charlie’s Angels effective immediately, in the wake of a full month of meager ratings. The detective drama become this fall’s fifth casualty after NBC’s The Playboy Club and Free Agents, CBS” How to Be a Gentleman (which ceased production after being shuttled to Saturdays), and The CW’s H8R.

Already-produced Angels episodes will continue to air in the Thursdays-at-8 slot, at least up to and perhaps beyond scheduled end-of-month holiday preemptions (such as when another Charlie, Brown, fills the slot).

In its Sept. 23 debut, Angels attracted 8.7 million viewers while scoring a 2.1 rating in the coveted adults 18-49 demo. At last tally, the show drew 5.9 mil and a 1.3, down 32 and 38 percent, respectively.

Surprise surprise - ABC doesn't hang onto ANYTHING. But this was crap anyway so I don't mind :D

I am not @ all surprised. Each time I saw it, I was totally put off.

ABC sucks. The people they have on their mgmt team now don't know "good programming" from their own heads up each other's asses.

@ the same time- its kind of sad to see how shows today (whether good or even bad) arent given the chance they used to get. remember back in the day, Dynasty didnt debut @ the top, nor did Melrose Place. (The original Charlie's Angels DID however :D, so did Wonder Woman) It's scarey to think these shows , had they aired TODAY probably would never have made it to become the icons they are.

ABC DOES have some good shows, but they cancel them after a few eps - like Eastwick and Happy Town. They need to pick good shows from the start and then stick with them, especially when they have fan bases like both those shows did.

they dont believe in "development" anymore. ABC was home to the original Charlie's Angels & Dynasty too. They gave Dynasty time to develope, be tweaked & try again when the debut didnt go over well & boom, history was made. Eastwick WAS good. I hated that was canceled.

wow i am honestly shocked it too this long, i knew that show was bad after the first episode.

And ABC does have good shows just none of them are dramas, whoever they have in charge of their comedies are on point. (Modern Family, Happy Endings, Suburgatory)

I actually enjoyed this show. :) It's too bad it got cancelled but like everyone has been saying, it's not that shocking...or surprising. Shame, though.

I think that these days anybody can be an actor, if you know what I mean. Hollyweird just doesn't make the same actors as they did back when Hollyweird was still Hollywood.

Take Larry Hagman for example. I have never, ever seen Dallas but even I know he's a big tv star, though he hasn't really been in anything.

Same with Farrah Fawcett, John Ritter. Big tv stars, I know that, but I haven't even seen Three's Company or Charlie's Angels.

Yeah. That's what I think.

Yeah. That's what I think.

Well some big stars come from the small screen & never do much on the big screen but that makes them no less a REAL star. Heather Locklear is an example. This woman was Aaron Spelling's "Lucky Penny", she gave 3 of his show's MAJOR success, one of them she HELMED out the gate (TJ Hooker) another one she RESCUED from cancelletion (Melrose Place) & the third (Dynasty- actually the FIRST for her) she started off as a minor character but rose to become one of the core cast members & fans DEMANDED her return when she was written off at the end of season 5 & so she did return for the remaining 4 seasons of the show.

She's had other shows too like Spin City, LAX etc but when it came to the big screen? she usually did small bit parts (i.e. her uncredited role in first wives club) & while she did proove her comedic chops in movies along side big screen stars charlie sheen & chris tucker in "money talks", when she tried to do films carrying them solely on her shoulders (i.e. "the perfect man") they didnt do well. but there's no doubt on the SMALL screen, she can tear it up & she's known for that.

Larry Hagman's another example. He did "I dream of jeannie" , "Dallas", "Knots Landing" etc & will be reprising his role in the upcoming "Dallas" reboot.

Farrah Fawcett (who everyone on the board knows is my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE & whom I was named after :D) is an exception-a respected small & big screen actress w/ the awards to proove it (multiple people's choice award wins, 2 emmy wins, 1 golden globe win & nomination etc. for her work on shows like Charlie's Angels & big screen movies like "The Burning Bed", "Extremeties", "Small Sacrificies" & later TV shows like Ally Mcbeal, Spin City, The Guardian & powerfull tv movies like "Jewel" & "Silk Hope". Her last film was "The Cookout" where she showed more her comedic chops alongside Queen Latifah(who actually asked her to join her in the film after they had worked together on Spin City)

So I'm not arguing or disagreeing w/you @ all really, I just say all that to say that yeah some stars are primarily famous for their work on the small screen, some on the big, & a few on BOTH...BUT they are STARS who EARNED their reputation & recognition for their TALENT unlike these ppl you see today.

Its funny how these so called writers & pop culture bloggers/watchers of "today" miss the fact that REAL talent speaks volumes even after the actor (john ritter) or actress (farrah fawcett) dies. ppl have BEEN talking about them & will KEEP talking about them for more than just their looks or controversies. can the same thing be said for these so called "actors" & "actresses" today? probably not but yet hollywood & the tv networks keep bending over backwards to give these no talent hacks show after show thinking that a remake of a classic w/ new faces will draw ppl in & each time they try this...they FAIL.

It's not about the "art" of it in this country - it's about someone creating a fictional person to be a celebrity. I feel like people like Meryl Streep just cringe seeing what people call "actors" these days.

Everyone knows I watch a lot of UK TV, but I'm watching stuff where the ability of the actors BLOWS MY MIND. You never get that here. The people that win emmy's these days - what kind of performances are those, really? They're fine and everything, but nothing that really affects people, not really.

funny that you metnion that b/c back in the day, even during the "golden age" of hollywood during the "studio system" days, stars WERE created. Rock Hudson, Liz Taylor, Bette Davis etc these ppl were not born w/ these names & in many cases didnt even LOOK as we know them to look naturally. They were taken, shaped, molded & in some cases via plastic surgery...names were changed & they were literally cast in an image & given roles to suit that image. I think if i remember reading correctly, Liz Taylor was the LAST actress to emerge from the "studio system" before Hollywood changed into what its become today.

As for Meryl Streep & what she'd think? I dare say if she spoke on it...ALOT of ppl would be laid low by that. She's literally considered one of Hollywood's finest living actresses today by critics, film writers & the "Academy" so if anybody SHOULD have something to say, it's her. BUT Edie Falco gave voice to what i'm sure MANY REAL stars think about ppl like Kardashian etc when she SLAMMED them on E! saying "why are they even famous? they have no talent!"

or even the girl in scream 4, who said to "Sidney", you dont even have to have real talent to be "famous" anymore. You just have to have fucked up shit happen to you & put it on the internet! i thought THAT was very telling.

thats b/c over there they dont go out of theire way to sideline/shelve their older actors/actresses like they do over here. Joan Collins is still going strong over in the UK even though she has a HUGE fan base in the U.S., they want to say she's "too old"...that woman Can STILL act circles around girls half her age!

I know that old Hollywood was manufactured, but at least they gave those girls ACTING lessons and scripts that were actually well written. It wasn't ALL about shock and awe.

And talk about not shelving older actors - Helen Mirren is like STILL a sex symbol over there lol

Bwhaha! After watching the previews I knew this show was going to be crap. So this is hilarious to me. However, I do agree that these days they don't give shows a fighting chance anymore.

As for Hollywood standards of an actress, I agree completely. It's about the looks and glamour instead of the talent.
