Carrie (the steven king novel) is the gift that keeps on giving it seems. Carrie (the original & oscar nominated film adaptation from 1976), it's sequel The Rage: Carrie 2 (1999); a remake more closely resembling the novel (2002) & now a new big screen remake featuring Chloe Grace Mortez as "Carrie" & Julianne Moore as "Margaret White".

I was resistant @ first...but after pulling out the old paperback version of the novel my grandmother gave me from her garage sale when i was 11 yrs old & re-reading it again...I think I may venture out to the theatre to see this upcoming version of it. What say you?

Looks good. Surprisingly good.

I like the angle in the trailer where the aftermath is analyzed.

Yes. in the book the story is told from a retrospective p.o.v. as law enforcement is investigating in the aftermath. the "carrietta white commission" as they are called. the director of this remake has said repleatedly "we really went to the book"
I'm sure it will a good movie. Just as the original was a good movie.

Have mixed feelings about these remakes though.
Perhaps it is a good way to tell the really good stories to a new audience.
If an average teenager today doesn't watch older movies I can accept that.

But parts of me think that it would be much cooler if they could just watch the originals instead.

that's how i feel, S_K. If the original warrants a "remake" then the ORIGINAL is the one to watch! Carrie (1976) stands up well after all these years & tells a very powerful story.
Twice I think, actually lol!

well "The Rage" is sequel & not a remake if I remember correctly. So that leaves the 2003 TV movie (w/ Rena Sofer as Miss Desjardin)...what other one was there?

The TV movie tried to really follow the book but all the CGI special effects just made alot of the detruction sequence seemed "blah" to me.

There's a reason the original film holds up, even though it's a "book-to-movie" adaptations w/ alot of key differences from the book. the writing was excellent & the actors/actresses were talented & organic in their performances, especially Sissy & Piper.

I liked the basic idea of "The Rage" in 1999 & i loved the "melrose place super bitch" reference :D but my problem w/ that film was that none of the characters (or the actors/actresses playing them) outside of "Rachel" ( Emily Bergl) was authentic feeling. Even Amy Irving reprising "Sue Snell" in the original film didn't FEEL right. She definitely was the investigative consciousness for the audience but there was just something "MISSING". Although the film was ahead of it's time for one thing...the SEVERE personality/character disorders that many of the antagonists seemed to exhibit in that film. Kids today behave JUST like that w/ no regard for other ppl's feelings, no sense of boundaries & no sense of respect for authority figures.

Your link didn't work Vil. :)

I think it looks great. Great casting in my opinion.

I'm not one for remakes of horror movies because they always get fucked up, but this one looks promising for sure. I'm going to go see it. :)

That's cause the link's from April and they took it down :(
Eh I probably wont see it. Nothing touches the original. There is just something so creepy and unsettling about Carrie's mother in the original that just CANT be translated to somebody else, and for ME, it makes the movie.

I wish that they hadn't cast one these ridiculous pretty, perfectly proportioned, girls as Carrie.
Now it feels like they have actively tried to tone down her look (and failed) instead of having someone that looked the part more natural.
