Ok in Green Lanterns there are 7 different corp each that each embodiments one of the primordial emotions. Each Lantern Corp has different powers that make them different from the others and how they effect one another.

Before long these massive armies began to fight for galactic dominance and as their fighting raged the original darkness from before the universe was decided that it liked everything better before there was light. So it sent it's representation Nekron to silence all the universe and kill everything by raising the dead to end the lives of the living. This is all shown in the sequel to Green Lantern's "Sinestro Corps War" the blockbuster event "Blackest Night"
Seriously read this comic . . . . i mean it,written by Geoff Johns and featuring wicked art. It is the mega event of DC's best title right now, featuring both Green Lantern series (GL and GL Corp) with a man series and a number of mini-tie ins. Seriously read read read it!!!
