Dwayne Johnson is trying to get a remake of John Carpenter's "Big Trouble in Little China" off the ground....

John Carpenter Isn't Thrilled About BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA

I like Dwayne (more to look at than his acting skills :p ) but i'm not a fan of remakes, especially movies that don't really need them. There's more to a film than special effects & technology can't make up for character development, acting & chemistry.

The original is weird & fun, & Kim Cattrall is in it! :D

I do think it's so weird for them to remake movies that just don't really need to remade, or re-done. Like certain movies I can see how it would be a re-make but THIS one? It's just odd to me lol.

& @ the time this one was made & released, it was "ahead of its time" for the themes Carpenter was trying to convey in it. The studio did not really support him & while it didn't do so well @ the box office initially, it quickly gained a HUGE, LOYAL cult following over the years.

Same thing happened w/ the Fog. That's another Carpenter classic that stands alone & really didn't need to be remade & when they did remake it 2005 it fell completely flat. one of the reasons they original did so well despite the special effects being minimal was the story & the talented cast in the movie, many of whom had long working relationships w/ Carpenter.

Usually I'm not that against remakes.
If the younger audience won't watch older movies so why not? A good story is still a good story.

I'm a big fan of Big Trouble in Little China.
It is one of those movies that has that special thing. A certain feeling that I can't explain but I love it.

Really can't see how a remake will be able to capture that again.
It just won't happen. I'm quite sure of it. lol
