Its flu season, or at least something's going around that's making everyone sick. What are your tricks for getting over a cold? Anyone have any home remedies that are sure to work?

1 Sudafed (the real one with pseudoephedrine, behind the pharmacist's counter in many states)

1 teaspoon lemon juice

1 half teaspoon honey

1 shot favorite alcohol ( 1 prefer rum here or vodka here, or a dark drink like Southern Comfort of Jack Daniels)

An explanation:

Sudafed is proven to help with congestion due to colds and flu. Almost all symptoms can only be mitigated with colds as a virus, and this is tried and true.

Honey combats the lack of appetite from colds in that you get a shot of calories that allow your body to fight the virus and keep you from being so drained. It also helps the alcohol coat your throat.

Lemon is for flavor (brings all this crap together) and the citric acid and vitamin jolt can't hurt. Some people use orange or lime.

Alcohol burns away the rough throat and helps you rest. It also combats the jitters that can come from pseudoephedrine.

Simply put, combine everything but the pill together either room temp or even chilled with crushed ice (kids go for this...reduce the alcohol though!!!!). You can also add this to a thin hot tea. THEN take the pill with water so that it is completely swallowed and down. THEN use this and rest.

i substitue regular bottled water with PROPEL water when i'm ill. it's something the doctor had me do a couple years ago when i'm sick. propel water is enhanced and helps the body maintain when you're ill.

a hot toddy is always the ticket. just be ready to sweat like a pig after you drink one LOL.

and like Garrick said, SUDAFED! I've been a loyal user of that for some years now.

I usually go with the following besides what the others have already suggested:

1.) Echinacea - I take this in the form of a capsule to help strengthen the immune system.

2.) Green Tea - Another great assistant in fighting colds and strengthening the immune system.

3.) Vitamin C / Orange Juice - Another assistant

4.) Salt water - If I have a sore throat (usually the beginning of a flu) I gargle water with salt. It's disgusting but it subsides the pain. Tea with lemon and honey are also helpful.

5.) Chicken soup - The broth is very helpful to the body.

6.) For headaches I use peppermint from Aveda to ease a pounding headache / tension in the neck and shoulders.

7.) Exercising - Surprisingly exercising does help.

8.) Advil - Any aspirin can help lower a fever drastically.

9.) Blow dryer - I used to have a LOT of earaches growing up. So I would apply the heat to help alleviate the pain.

yes, Echinacea is an excellenet supplement to take...its prooven to help prevent you catching a cold and if you have one, it will shorten the duration of your symptoms. I get the pure echinacea with gold seal complex to help drive out the impurities in my digestive system.

black tea is good for the immune system as well.

i never knew about using the blow dryer for ear aches. i havent had one in years but thats something good to know for the future.
