More & more places like restaurants & even some movie theatres are instituting a "no children" policy. It's also becoming more common place for airlines to force ppl w/ loud/screaming children to sit in the back of the plane.

There've been many debates on this but not here so I thought I'd bring it up.

Do you agree or disagree w/ places that ban children?

It's a gimmick, like places that still allow smoking. Frankly, it's up to the owner who they allow in, really. I honestly don't care - either it will gain them business if its something customers want or lose them if they don't. *shrugs*

This debate has been done several times in norway, as far i know except the obvious places, children are allowed almost everywhere, even though they are allowed there are some places where you don't really want to bring kids as it would be "unnormal" no one will care much if you do it though, unless it's a really noisy kid.

The worst thing i know is not the infants, but the kids who is 4-5 and older who still acts like an infant screaming their lungs out, it's especially bad when it's a spoiled and/or obnoxious kid.

I have two children ages 18 months and 11 years.

I understand completely the issues, though I think it should not happen in situations where there are no real alternatives for parents, such as airlines. Where else are families supposed to go if they need to travel and cannot fly?

If it is a private non-essential business, then I believe it is their decision and their risk. But if you enjoy large control of a huge essential market, then I think accepting everyone is what you put up with.

there's nothing worse than being out @ a restaurant...& sitting well w/in earshot of bratty children who not only disrupt the atmosphere but even go so far as to run about the place while the parents implicitly expect the staff to "mind" their children & the other guests to be okay w/ this behavior.

I'm all in favor of certain types of restaurants, especially those that serve alcohol, banning children.

when it comes to airlines? i know that's tricky but i can tell you that its no fun being in a cabin w/ a screaming baby that can't be quieted or bratty toddlers, young children who are not controlled by their parents.

I've gotten to the point where if i must fly, I just pay more $ for business class where there are almost no children to be found.

i really think this issue would not even be @ the point it is now if some parents would go back to RAISING their children & teaching them how to behave in public. It's ridiculous when parents go to places...again like a restaurant or a store or even a hotel...& act as though it's the staff's responsibility to mind their children.

I agree with that. Cause I understand that kids cry and act up...but when the parents don't make any effort to respect the other patrons, that's where it gets annoying.

Flying...yeah it sucks having a baby on the plane with you, but I feel like there's really nothing that can be done about it and you just have to deal. It's not really the parents fault that their baby is crying on an airplane lol

You both are right. The negligence of a plurality of parents is making it bad for the rest of us.

I keep my kids in line and I make sure that if I take them somewhere that they are ready and able to act properly.

i've no doubt that you take care to raise your children & keep them in line in public. ;)
Every kid throws a tantrum, and I feel for the parents when that happens cause it sucks for them. And I recognize it's not something you can stop at a dime. So I try to give the parents a warm smile as long as they are actually TRYING.

i dont know about that. i never did that in public. i knew better. if i even raised my voice...i'd get taken to the bathroom & dealt with. so as a small child, i knew early on not to try my parents like that or they'd embarrass me.

one of my co-workers was telling me that her son tried it ONCE & she stopped what she was doing, took him out of the store to the car & disciplined him. she said she wasnt going to just stand there & let that happen.

Over here we have 'family sections' in a lot of restaurants and pubs (note that is pubs that serve food and only during the day). So they are away from the main area, yes you can still hear them if they chuck a paddy but not as loud.

I don't mind the little babies so much as a) you can't do anything about it and for the most point if they are crying then there is usually a reason for it.

Its not that I don't like kids, I just don't like kids who misbehave in my personal space (that also goes for the ones that like to run up and down the communal areas of my building).

I'm not going to pretend I was an angel as a young kid. My mother says i'm the same way as I am now. A cheeky little madam that asked lots of questions and would refuse to do anything without an explanation of why I had to do it.

I'm on the fence about this. They should be allowed to eat at McDs or go to the movies and such. But...I don't know. I think that in cases like this, strict parental guidance should be enforced. lol. Kids are kids. It's up to the parents to deal with them.

When Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban came out in theatres, my aunt and I went to go see it. It was HORRIBLE. There was this family, well a mother and her children, there and the mother just sat and watched the movie while the littlest kids were RUNNING around the thing screaming and talking LOUDLY and when the older sister tried to get them to settle down, they threw a fit. THere was no focusing that day.

My aunt and I went to see the same movie again a few nights later and it was blissful. :D
