My grandmother was born in the 30's and grew up in the "golden age" of films. her daughters, born in the 50's came up in the 60's and 70's and they too saw their share of classic films.
Ive been fortunate enough to discover a few classic gems over the years that most of my peers know nothing about.
Maybe I'll be able to point some to you and others here. Being that I'm soooooo old. Born in the 60s and all.
one such movie is:
"Mrs. Miniver" starring Greer Garson. It's a black and white film and set in the ww2 era. about a british woman whose life is turned upside down when her husband and son are lost in the war and when a german soldier turns up on her doorstep, things get REALLY interesting. to this day, that movie stands strong in my mind and even though it was made well before my time, i think its a film anyone could watch and enjoy.
I've watched it more then once and enjoyed it. It is a great film to watch. :xyxthumbs:
another film that can be considered classic is "Wait until Midnight" starring Audrey Hepburn , made in the 60's and this is a film that could have been classified as "horror" before the horror genre was really even a strong hold. its about a young, blind woman living in the city who is terrorized during a home invasion by a man. escape is so EASY it seems, but when the man discover's she's blind..he plays a terrible cat and mouse game with her.
I've seen this one at lease once. Horror is a good call for an "over genre" but suspense is a better one I think. Perhaps terror? :xyxthumbs:
Yet another fav and a major one is
"Lawrence of Arabia". Beautiful to watch with all that scenery but also all that great acting. Fantastic film epic that shows how great things got come the 60s. There are a number of films from that decade that are worth the see.
Speaking of Audrey Hepburn and Peter O'Toole, check out
"How to Steal a Million". A fun little film that'll charm you with their charisma but also a fun little tale about stealing, or maybe not
.
One or three more 60s films that are fun to watch and featuring Jack Lemon, I thought of one of the films and the other two came quick to mind too, are the following.
"Bell, Book and Candle" - An all time fav with Jack Lemon in a supporting role and starring James Stewart (a fav actor of mine) and Kim Novak (hubba-hubba!). The film is about a witch whom falls in love and steals away a book publisher. It can make you forget about Bewitched easily. Just call me Pyewacket!
Next is
"How to Murder Your Wife". If your a comic or comic strip fan you'll want to see this one. In it Jack plays a comic strip artist/writer of a famous James Bondian character. He's an avowed bachelor, but once drunk, he hits the jackpot, but it takes him time to adjust. A great little film about relationships without being nasty. Lots of fun.
Then finally, a great must as it's such a classic,
"The Odd Couple". I'm sure I don't need to describe this one unless you've lived in a prison for the last 50 years or are just an ignorant kid.
