how many of you have had close or dangerous encounters with animals?

I can remember a night where I practically turned into Wonder Woman and LEAPED from the ground to the top of my friend's house (actually i did leap from the ground up over the railing and on my friend's porch) when i was confronted by a hostile (and as it turns out RABID) opossum. the thing was so UGLY and so frightening and it ATTACKED me, but i escaped before it could bite me.

My mother told me about her neighbor and how a deer came busting into her house and ran wildly through several rooms, knocking things over before crashing through the patio doors and rushing out to the forest area behind the property. her neighbor had to take her daughter and hide in the bathroom until they were sure the deer was gone.

There have been alot MORE incidents involving deer lately from what ive been reading so it got me to thinking about other animals who can be rather unpredictable and agressive at times.

I'm sorry, but I started busting out laughing at the deer running into the house one. LOL. It just seems so random.

A dog nearly attacked me when I was younger. I was a block down from my house and I saw this Shar Pei walking down the street. I didn't think anything of it until it stopped and started staring at me. So I slowly began to move toward my house and it began to move toward me growling. I knew well enough not to run because it would set it off to chase me, so I started to yell for my mom (we had a screen door) and that's when it charged at me. I booked it to my house screaming. The dog had just caught up to me by the time I made it into the house. It was insane.

When i was younger i had what must have been a crazy Schaefer running around in circles around me, barking and growling, not very fun when the dog is almost bigger than you... Luckily its owners managed too restrict it

Almost bitten by a poisonous snake once, its bite isn't usually deadly, but still scary, somehow managed too evade it.

I live up in the mountains so its natural for us to have wild creatures such as coyotes, rattlesnakes, sometimes even bears.

One weekend I could hear my tabby cat, Mao, hissing and growling from the first floor of our three story house. Usually she plays with McCavity, our other cat so I figured they were fighting. I went downstairs into the basement to investigate and I see Mao hunched down, her hair erect and her tailing swinging with McCavity sitting next to her. Across from them? A rattlesnake! I could hear the rattle going off.

They were inches from my cats and it lunged at McCavity! He luckily was quick enough to jump back. At this time the adrenaline had kicked in because I didn't want my cats harmed. I charged forward with a shovel towards the snake and took a swing as it lunged again. All I remember was just a blur of movements and then the snake was trying to slither away. I apparently had knocked it across the head, so it was trying to slither away.

My cats of course were curious, trying to see. I had to keep pushing them back and yelling so they wouldn't get bitten. Meanwhile I was in shorts and bare foot lol. I raced over and pretty much smashed it on the head again. I usually don't try to kill animals but I couldn't risk it harming my babies.

And what's worse is when I discovered the snake, I tried to call my neighbor, I had my cell phone in my pocket. I explain I have a poisonous snake in the basement. What does he say? "Oh, I'll be there in a second, my wife wants her curtains up." WTF! Fuck the curtains and come help me!! lol.

When my Mother was a child and they were up in the mountains, I don't recall where I wanna say Vermont? Or even Canada. They had stumbled upon a mother Grizzle and her baby! It charged them and the people my Mom was with scooped her up and hauled ass down the hill with the bear following. They out ran the bear as their car wasn't far. That's some crazy shit right there lol.

The coolest thing I remember about animal encounters was when I was a kid (12 maybe?), our church group would visit sick and shut-in people, usually the elderly.

I stepped outside while they helped the lady to the bathroom when I saw movement about 15 feet from her front porch. It was a water moccasin, about 4-5 feet in length. I went back in as the old lady was just back into bed. I told everyone what I saw and as the men were going to handle it, she said,

"Leave it be. Chester will get it."

The guys did not believe her I guess, just thinking it was some old lady rambling about someone long dead, but when we went back outside, a large Tomcat was stalking this snake!!! I confirmed it was a moccasin by the way it was so aggressive with the cat and struck at it, mouth open and white. On the third or fourth strike the cat leaped up and turned around, landing on the snake's neck and killing it quickly by PEELING the damn thing back. It was the damndest thing I had ever seen.

As we stood there in shock murmuring about what the cat had done, the old lady was in the house laughing. This is what she said,

"Yeah, THAT is Chester. He had already killed two snakes this summer. Ever since I started feeding him scraps and milk, I don't even have to pay somebody to put sulfur out.He takes 'em RIIIGHT out. Come on back in, y'all, let Chester have his fun."

I was attacked by two adult Rottweilers when I was 7. I was living in dayton ohio at the time and we pretty much actually lived in the city anyways we had like a little alley behind the house or what not and down the alley was my old elementry school so me and my friends would always go there to play because of the slide and jungle gym they had anyways we were playing house and i was the mom so i went to go pick some flowers and as i went around towards the grass in the front of the building i saw the two big dogs and i went to turn and i guess they heard my feet on the gravel and well i started to run and they attacked.... luckily some guy jumped out of his car to wave them off of me.

I have 9 scars on my upper right arm, they tore my tricept muscle or my bicept one of the two i dunno.. so the dr had to repair that, i also have a scar right above my right breast. Everyone said it was a good thing i used my arms to block my face or i'd have scars all over it. Watching the news reports later on the woman who owned the dogs had the funniest comment....

"They were only playing, they just got alittle too rough".......and another lady commented saying "Rough? When i first looked out the window that little girl looked nothing more than a rag doll if it werent for the screaming I wouldnt have thought twice."

Anyways i'm all healed up and no permenant damage except i'm terrified of rotts now I cant be around them at all, if one is in a car next to us i pretty much push myself over as far as i can away from them

damn that's scary as hell! and that lady is an idiot. :eyeroll: playing my ass lol.
I used to work at this place called Pet Paradise Resorts for about a year [before getting my current job], and it was located right in front of a swamp and wooded area. So there were many times where I was in the close proximity of some pygmy rattlers and water macosans. And there was a black widow infestation in one of the unused buildings that we opened up during the winter holiday. One dog actually got bit by one on his paw and the entire pad look like it rot away...it was horrible. We ended up having to move all the dogs and get the place sprayed down. Needless to say, Pet Paradise was a hazzardous place to work. Not only did you have to deal with asshole dogs, but poisonous snakes and spiders too lol.

Okay, don't laugh.. well, go ahead I cant hear you and rightly dont care, but there are alot of these around here and when you get them in a pack they are quite vicious! Especially when they bum rush you on the way to the car.. and that's those bastard Canadian Geese.

You know, I heard stories about Canadian Geese. I heard they're vicious mother fuckers LOL

lol my mom told me one day when she was like 10 her and my grandmother used to go walking in a park near their home and one day one of the geese chased my grandmother around for like an hour trying to get at her ankles lol

i know that shouldn't make me laugh...but it does LOL.

And they leave a large dent in the car too! It wasnt I that it hit.. only time my car got hit by them was with their massive turds. I kid you not! Normal bird shit is one thing, but I honestly thought it was human feces on my car. Though, considering it was my car, anything would be possible. And yes, they are mean, and hiss like a snake!

When I was about two or three, I was attacked by a beagle on my cheek. I was trying to play some game with it, and all of a sudden it just snapped.

I still have a scar. =/

i had to fight one of them off when i was in college. they would roam about in a group, and sometimes they'd be right on the campus grounds. i was coming from my car to the walkway up to an entrance to the school and one of them was following me!

I turned around and looked at it with my evil bitchy glare (as those who know me KNOW i can do so well) and it stopped in its tracks and i said "you better take your ass on somewhere!"

and i walked on. the creature got pissed and came RIGHT at me! flapping its wings and chasing after me!

I was startled by the flurry of activity, but i dropped my books and took off my purse ( i had a large Coach brand bag) and swung it around and screamed

"get off me!" and smacked that damn bird right in the head!

it made this AWFUL honking sound and it came back again and i swung my purse around at it and screamed at it some more! finally some people came to help me and they were yelling too at the bird and it went away.

those things ARE agressive. I remember reading a story about one that was terrorizing people in a wal mart parking lot! it would chase after people on the ground and through the air! hoking at them, flapping its wings etc.

why am i not surprised you would try and intimidate a duck with an evil look LMAO
Best story i got, one night me and my roommate were relaxing in our dorm watching bad late night movies. I'm on my bed half asleep then my roommate pops up on his and yells "Is that a Bat?" I get up to look and theres this Owl sitting across the way. I turn to him and say "No that's a Owl" and we argue on a few minutes and then turn back to get another look and the owl moved to our window and started staring at us. It was like it was looking into our souls or something lol. I thought i was in one of those animals attack horror movies . I never really liked animals and the owl hooting for my soul didn't help

In the past, I've had to dodge a bunch of bees that were coming after me like suicide bombers. It doesn't help that I'm allergic to their venom and could have died on the spot if they got me. God, I hate those things. Since then, I've learned that the key to avoiding bees is to either run like hell or have crazy ass basketball player moves that you can use to dodge them.

I was in a trail in the Appalachians once and, they either nested on the ground or their nest fell to the ground, but stepped over a hornets nest. So I feel ya.. I never knew my fat ass could run so fast.

I have an odd and strange fear of birds. Their mere existance makes me uncomfortable, and my encounters with them only furthers my fear.

While in Ashland, Oregon for the Shakespeare Festival many years ago we went to this park that had two glorious but GIANT black swans. I tried to be good about my fear, so I went to feed one and instead of taking the bread, the fucker BIT my hand and went APE SHIT!

I was chased for over a MILE by a damn BLACK SWAN into a children's park where I was finally able to hide in one of the tunnels thing.

I am also not allowed at the Bird thing at Marine World ever again. I went there, yet again to try and get over my fear (though I really think my friends and mother wanted to see me freak out) and sure as hell a damn tropical ass bird landed right on my head. I was like paralyzed and kept telling the lady..

"Get the bird OFF of my head."

And she was being an idiot and kept saying "Oh it's not gonna hurt you, it's sweet." I repeated myself several times before I gained up the courage and PUNCHED the damn bird off of my head, causing all the other birds to go crazy and the lady running the damn bird thing FREAKED OUT and kicked me out, telling me I was never allowed back. Yeah, whatever like it's my loss.

And then there was the time I saw an Emu in real life. It frightens me greatly that there are birds THAT big. They can just fucking KILL you with their hook thing and nobody can do anything about it. These emus are fucking like velociraptors!

I think I just have a general fear of animals. I like them, I just don't think they like me.

Living so close to Tahoe i've had several encounters with BEARS including a bear that wandered into town and was walking down my street after my friend left my house. She got into her car and I get a call on my cell phone and she is like "HELP! THERE'S A FUCKING BEAR OUTSIDE!"

I looked out my window and sure as HELL there was a BEAR and my friend was stuck in her CAR! It was terrifying yet a little hilarious!

LMAOOO. Omg....I know your post wasn't meant to be funny Brandon, but seriously, i'm cracking up. Omg, the swan chasing you into a jungle gym tube just did me in. LOL

wow....i dont think ive ever seen black swans before. but it seems alot of the larger birds tend to be ill tempered and agressive. i wonder if the bird that chased you was a male? i often hear that male birds get territorial.
