Pineapple Express director to write and direct new version of the 1977 Dario Argento horror classic

by Dave Golder

What’s that strange hissing sound? That’s the en masse sharp intake of breath from horror aficionados the world over reacting to the news that there’s going to be a US remake of Dario Argento’s 1977 seminal Italian horror film Suspiria.

David Gordon Green will direct from a script he penned with Chris Gebert for Crime Scene Pictures. Green previously directed Pineapple Express, which was fairly well received, but also has the fairly dire fantasy comedy Your Highness on his CV, which must set alarm bells ringing.

Scheduled to begin filming in September, Suspiria is about a bright and ambitious American student attending a posh school in Europe (in the original it was a ballet school). After a fellow student is brutally murdered and several other cruel and strange homicides disrupt the once quiet life on campus, Suzie realises that the academy may be a front for something more sinister. A bit like the X-Factor boot camps.

Crime Scene Pictures partners Adam Ripp and Rob Paris said in a statement: “We love the style and energy of the original film – and David’s script brilliantly updates the world, presenting a rare opportunity to create an elegant, classic horror film.” Well, you never know…

So I know this is a horror classic and everything, but I really didn't like it, so I'm not that upset that they're remaking it, because maybe this time, I'll get it. :D

nothing is off limits these days so it doesnt surprise me but im sure it wont compare to the original. horror movie imports during the "golden age" of horror like Suspiria were films that really challenged a person's mind while scaring them.

im sure the american version will rely on in your face blood & gore & tap into some a-lister to headline it & think that'll make up for the lackluster writing.
