I totally missed the AMAs last night. It seems like they're moving that show earlier and earlier up in its broadcast. I always thought it broadcast at the beginning of the new year.

DId anyone watch it? I read an article online today that JUSTIN BEIBER beat out heavy weights like Lady Gaga for several big awards? :tomato:

He won artist of the year which was complete crap. Lady Gaga should of won that.

But yeah, they had some pretty good performances. Rihanna was good, Katy Perry was pretty good, Christina Aguleria [after all these years I still don't know how to spell her last name lol] was good, I personally liked Taylor Swift, and Kesha was good.

Miley Cyrus was a joke. She was WAY off key, Usher sounded sick, Bon Jovi sounded off to me, Diddy was eh, Backstreet Boys/NKOTB were retarded lol, Justin Beiber wasn't too bad, and I can't think of any of the other performances.

But yeah, it was an okay show.

I didn't watch it, but I did hear that Justin Bieber won that award too. Personally, I thought Lady Gaga or Katy Perry should have won it because their new songs this year were way cooler than JB's by far.

You dont like Lady Gaga, Vil? lol!

I dont think the music industry values "REAL" anymore. its all about autotune and illusion.

I think its telling that Madonna and Janet cant even get the respect or play they normally would command because folks want to "age them out". the two of them (even though im no Janet fan, i give her her props) made it possible for these girls INCLUDING Gaga to be doing what they're doing.

and as for Beiber!? if there was EVER someone beside Beyonce & Taylor Swift that made me want to punch them in their fucking face...he's it. WHY is he relevant?

I don't HATE Lady Gaga's music, but I don't think she's anything special. I think 10 years ago she would have been a one hit wonder. Even talking to you (not to put you on the spot) you always talk about her performance acumen - I just think it should be about the music and not about putting on a show.

And the one thing I'll have to give to Taylor Swift - she writes her own songs.

Yeah Gaga really got to me with "love game" (disco stick) that song just really HIT me and that's when I got on board the Lady Gaga train LOL. Prior to that song, I dismissed her as "madonna-lite". I like her, but I wonder how long she can keep her momentum. She's getting the kind of praise and adoration that madonna, janet and michael were getting in the 80s and 90s but they built UP to it...SHE started out the gate and like a year later suddenly she's seen as "on their level"? I like her...but I dont think that was a good thing for the media to hype her up to.

BUT like Taylor Swift, Gaga too writes her own songs. UNLIKE Taylor, Gaga has a decent singing voice and she appeals to people over 12 :p . But i think she's become TOO aware of her theatrics. Madonna, Cher & Grace Jones evolved their theatrics over time...but it wasnt something they sat down and created as a formula. That's what all these girls AFTER them are doing.

Well, just playing devil's advocate cause I really don't care about Taylor Swift lol, I think 12 year old girls are her demographic and that's who she's TRYING to reach.

I like both Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga. Taylor Swift isn't as good a performer live as Gaga, but they both write their music and they both appeal to their demographic. So comparing them is like comparing apples and oranges.

However I totally agree about music today. It's definitely all about auto tune and dub-like beats. Kesha, Black Eyed Peas, and Gaga are all guilty of this. However I like a lot of their songs. They're catchy and I definitely have some of their songs on my iPod. I consider them moreso performers than artists [other than Gaga, I think she's an artist for sure]. Just like Britney Spears is a performer and Christina Aguleria is an artist. They both produce good music, however one can sing and the other is mediocre. I just think that in the past couple years mediocre has become a trend and there are very few actual good singers who are ALSO performers left. Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Katy Perry, Christina Aguleria pop into my mind as the exceptions.
