Alternate Universe: The Runaways

Effy took Brenda's hand, and together they inched their way towards the control room. Effy had visions of maniacs with butcher knives, and Brenda WISHED that was all they'd have to deal with. Effy 'spotted' the woman, by identifying her powers. Well, the good news was that Brenda wasn't imagining minds that didn't exist. The bad news was the LAUNDRY LIST of abilities the woman had. Oh, AWESOME. Brenda thought sarcastically as Effy mentally noted how completely FUCKED they were. Brenda nodded grimly and immediately steered Effy away from the control room, back to the Kitchen where Rich and Olivia were. Power in numbers, they'd seen that last night.

Rich: I… got it. Can't have the police tracking us down. We got enough problems as it is.

Olivia: That's the understatement of the year.

Rich then asked for Olivia's number, wondering if she was also HOMELESS, thoughts which immediately alarmed Brenda, who would have insisted he stay in a room at the Hotel Roosevelt, which her dad owned, if she had KNOWN last night that he was going to sleep in a CAVE. She didn't out him in front of everyone, but duly noted his situation and resolved to talk with him about it in private. Jackson arrived and could instantly tell something was up. It must have been the way Brenda was absentmindedly clutching Effy's arm, and the fact that they were still holding hands and generally looking like two freaked out chicks in a horror movie. The only reason Brenda didn't jump for the ceiling when he first spoke was because she heard his mind approaching.

Jackson: What's wrong?

Brenda cleared her throat. There were two ways to play this. They could continue to allow whoever was in the control room to believe that the teens were oblivious to their presence, or they could flat out confront them and find out what they were doing there. Since Brenda didn't feel comfortable discussing Mystech and their plans with the lurker listening in, obviously they would have to just call the woman out. Now that everyone was here, maybe they stood a chance…. Or maybe the woman just wanted to talk to them. The PROBLEM was that Brenda didn't know. The woman was practically a mental mute. Brenda, not wanting to sound as creeped out as she was, used the best nonchalant deadpan she could muster.

"There's a magic flying/teleporting shadow woman in the control room. She's watching us, listening in on this very conversation, in fact."

Effy just kept repeating it over and over again to herself.

Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.

What the hell were they going to do about this? The chick was shadows. WTF?

Okay, okay, get a hold of yourself.

She made her voice low.

“Everyone, calm down. We are not going to let some whatever invade OUR place. Now we are going to go back in there, everyone spread out. Olivia – you get ready to zap the bitch if she steps out of line.”

She took a deep breath.

“Everybody ready? Let’s go.”

The five teenagers would slowly again make their way down the hallway and into the control room. They moved as a unit, but once inside they spread out, making a ring around the room. The room was certainly shadowed - moreso than normal it seemed, though the runaways wouldn't be certain if this was actually the case of if their fears were making it seem so. There was an air of uneasiness around all of them.

Effy would use her control of the computer systems to turn on ALL of the monitors and ALL of the lights in the room to chase as many shadows away as possible. Olivia stood at the ready, and Jackson flexed in anticipation of an altercation. Brenda monitored the visitor's thought patterns, and Rich was alert, ready for anything.

Effy: "Okay, whoever and whatever you are, tell us what the hell you are doing here and what you want with us. And come out of the shadows, please."

But would the intruder come out of hiding quietly, or with a bang? Let's see, shall we?

Brenda Castle was more annoying than Shade initially thought. It wasnt that Brenda could outright read her thoughts, because she couldnt. But the girl's superhuman sensory levels allowed her an awareness that most "head blind" people (super or not) didnt have. Shade was undetectible even by superhuman hunter standards but as long as someone like Brenda was around...in a way OUTSIDE of Shade's choosing...she'd be a problem. Shade had already decided that this girl would serve HER purpose later but right now she had to be subdued.

Effy: "Okay, whoever and whatever you are, tell us what the hell you are doing here and what you want with us. And come out of the shadows, please."

and then there was "Effy". The nerve of this child, Elizabeth Stone. She might have been used to regarding her own MOTHER as an afterthought, but she knew nothing of how the world would regard HER :fdevil:

Shade had already taken the liberty of gathering/reading information available on all these children and decided which ones she'd leave ALIVE for the purpose of letting Finn hand over to Mystech. Now the children were in the control room, playing at being brave like cubs but these cubs did not have their den mother (Delilah) to guide and protect them anymore.

Escaping from the police was one thing. Surviving SELENE was quite another.

Selene had no reason to talk to these children. They were her PREY.

"You've asked for it, and now you've got it! But YOU don't set the stage, brat. I DO."

and the dark energy that she controls FLARES into view from the center of the control room and begins to expand out and overpower the LIGHT with a rolling "black out" effect.

Shade wastes no time as she herself appears via shadow portal and assails Brenda Castle.

"you're first..."

grabbing her arm and releasing a painfull attack that looks like "black lightning" to the others (for the few glimpses that they say). For Brenda, it is the feeling of cold SO PAINFULL as Shade assaults her body with the darkness down to her core before SLAMMING her head into the wall.

Knowing that a telepath needs concentration and discipline not only to control their power and shield themself from the influx of outside thoughts but to ALSO protect others from unintentional broadcast of their own thoughts, emotions and power, Shade uses PAIN, along with Brenda's lack of experience and control against her as she causes the girl to reflexively lose control of her power and broadcast the mental pain and anguish into those minds closest to her, those young, unprotected minds. its enough of a stumbling block for them to keep them off balance.

dropping Brenda then and there, Shade moves with terrifying speed and hems up Effy.

" you dare to call me out? little girl? you're not a leader. you're not even a good friend OR daughter. you're PREY. if you didn't know it before, then know it now."

Shade begins to STRANGLE Effy with shadow tendrils, which she mentally manipulates to shake the girl VIOLENTLY while strangling her. the tendrils lift Effy into the air while Shade changes her position and looks at Olivia, Jackson and Richard.

any one of them or all three of them would be attacking if they hadnt just been staggered by Brenda's own unintentional feedback.

Shade thrusts her hand forward and a flurry of dark orbs zooms toward Olivia. they seem like they are just a harmless, sparkling flurry of dark energy but then as they reach her at that last moment they transform into "daggers" of dark force. black hued shards that stab and slice, cutting with such hot & painfull accuracy as Olivia is cut, sliced and stabbed in various places.

That leaves Jackson and Rich, who undoutedly think THEY can save the day.

They moved as a group down the hall and into the control room, Effy was in front.

Huh. That was a stupid thing to do.

Too late now, she was through the door. She walked slowly, cautiously, around the perimeter of the room until she was opposite the door. She eyed the shadows warily. Effy reached behind her, touching one of the computer panels, and suddenly all the lights in the room flooded on at full strength. All of the monitors as well suddenly came alive, throwing even more light into the room.

Once the others had filed in and spread out, she swallowed. Her voice somehow came out steady.

“Okay, whoever and whatever you are, tell us what the hell you are doing here and what you want with us. And come out of the shadows, please.”

The darkness seemed to expand and grow, filling the room. And then the woman had appeared (finally) and GRABBED Brenda before slamming her head into a wall.

Holy shit.

Shade said:
”You dare to call me out? Little girl? You're not a leader. You're not even a good friend OR daughter. You're PREY. If you didn't know it before, then know it now."

“Oh please, I don’t give a shit about being a good anything. Take that show back to the circus you came from.”

But then, the shadows seemed to crawl around Effy and actually began to strangle her.

“What the fuck?”

Her hands went to her throat. She was now being shaken and her feet were no longer touching the ground. Her eyes were wide and she was making gasping noises. All the monitors went to pure white light. The loose items in the room (including the “daggers” that were cutting Olivia) started to shake as Effy became agitated, then started flying at Shade.

“Lightning…” Effy croaked.

Olivia continued to hang out with Rich in the common room until she heard Jackson's voice in the other room. Unaware that Effy and Brenda were in there [since they were whispering to each other], Livvie got up and nodded her head toward the door.

"Common. Everyone's finally here."

Livvie and Rich headed down the hall toward the voices; which ended up being in the control room. Catching the butt end of the conversation, Livvie cocked an eyebrow up as Brenda explained that there was another person in the room with superhuman abilities. She listed the person's abilities causing Livvie's eyes to widden.

"Shit..."

How they hell were they supposed to beat someone like THAT?

Effy: “Everyone, calm down ... Olivia – you get ready to zap the bitch if she steps out of line.”

"Got it."

Effy then proceeded to call the intruder out. Greeaat, because there's nothing like walking into the lions den waving a giant piece of stake around.

Shade: "You've asked for it, and now you've got it! But YOU don't set the stage, brat. I DO."

"Ohh FUCK."

Livvie stumbled back as Shade made her presence known. She grabbed Brenda first, assulting her like a rag doll before slamming her head into the wall. Olivia grabbed her head in pain, feeling Brenda's pain and back lash to Shade's attack. Wincing, she shut her eyes tightly trying to will it away.

Shade then turned to Effy, attacking her. Feeling the pain in her head begin to subside a bit, Brenda must have been getting herself together....Livvie opened her eyes just in time to see these shadow orbs flying at her via Shade. As theyreached her body they immediately turned into daggers, slicing across her skin and stabbing her! Gasping in pain, Livvie screamed out, feeling her body began to tremble and turn white hot. When overwhelmed, Livvie not only could control electricity, but she could transform INTO it. Olivia's body exploded into a fury of electricity, jumping directly INTO Shade within miliseconds and electrocuting her violently. This allowed Effy to escape the shadow tendrils and regroup with the others.

With enough electricity coursing through Shade's system to knock out half of Los Angeles, Olivia finally 'jumped' back out, rematerializing behind Jackson and Rich, slumped against the wall [still standing]. Despite her transforming into her electric form, this didn't change the fact that she was hurt by Shade's prior attack. Hissing in pain, she had gashes along her arms and torso mostly, with a large gash across her cheek. However it was one major stab wound to her stomach that was causing her the most pain, and making her loose the most blood. Holding her hand against her stomach, Livvie put pressure against it, ready to assist the others if need be, even though she was hurt.

Control Room

Jackson watched as Brenda seemed to be pondering whether or not to tell him what was going on. It must be that bad. But after a few moments, she looked at him and spoke.

Brenda: There's a magic flying/teleporting shadow woman in the control room. She's watching us, listening in on this very conversation, in fact.

Shit. He looked at Effy for a moment, hoping she would roll her eyes and have some brilliant plan of action for what was happening. In a very short amount of time, he realized that she in fact did not. If this thing scared EFFY, Jackson was preparing himself to be terrified.

Effy pulled herself together long enough to think of some kind of plan.

Effy: Everyone, calm down. We are not going to let some whatever invade OUR place. Now we are going to go back in there, everyone spread out. Olivia - you get ready to zap the bitch she steps out of line. Everybody ready? Let's go.

They made their way into the Control Room which seemed to be enshrouded by shadow, much darker than it usually seemed, and colder. They made a ring formation around the room as they each played their parts, and Effy called this "visitor" out.

Effy: Okay, whoever and whatever you are, tell us what the hell you are doing here and what you want with us. And come out of the shadows, please.

Did Effy just say please? This must be really bad. They waited for a few moments and there was nothing. The lights were bright in the control room, until they heard a voice.

Selene: You've asked for it, and now you've got it. But YOU don't set the stage, brat. I DO!

And everything went dark once more. He couldn't really make out the faces of anyone, he only knew where they were based on where they were standing before the lights went out, but he knew this mysterious woman was now in the room and she was attacking Brenda. He lunged forward with great speed and almost made it to Brenda until he was assaulted with intense mental feedback from Selene's attack. He dropped to his knees for a moment, grabbing his temple in pain.

"Calm down, calm down, calm down, calm down, calm down.."

He repeated the words in his head over and over again, attempting to focus on only the words and not the pain. Soon, the pain had subsided, but everything seemed to get more chaotic by the second as Selene unleashed a bevvy of attacks on both Olivia and Effy, but both girls had retaliated in miraculous ways with Effy pulling a "Carrie" and Olivia literally BECOMING electricity and blasting Shade with an intense amount of electricity as she appeared behind himself and Rich. He looked over her, watching her cuts and scrapes and wounds with an alert curiousity, pondering what exactly that kind of pain felt like. Jackson awaited to see if this enigma of a woman was down for the count before attacking like the others, they were exhausted and wouldn't last long. Jackson wanted to wait for the right moment.

"Common. Everyone's finally here."

Rich moved with Olivia as they met the others. Apparently they had an intruder who could do every damn thing spying on them. An intruder that te ladies felt they could just CALL OUT!

No time to complain. Rich followed their play and hoped for the best.

Not the best happened, as a dark-haired woman hit the girls HARD, even causing the telepath to make his head feel like a hangover form 4 hells before turning on him and Jackson. He was trying to refocus as the ladies reflexively made their play, shocking the hell out of the intruder and cutting her with her own shit. As they moved, distracting her, Rich dissipated and reformed...

..behind her, his hand turned into a steel axe that he sliced her back with, staggering the bitch from hell towards Jackson before dissipating again to check his female teammates, starting with Brenda.

A sandstorm became Rich as he knelt quickly to pass his finger under her nose, which he'd changed to ammonia. He remembered that when he was knocked woozy in a practice that his coach brought him around with it.

Wake up pretty girl so we can beat this bitch.

He then went for Brenda, stopping once he saw the blood. Too MUCH.

They had to get out of there...

in the control room.

In order to wear prey down, one had to get them to exert energy and effort. of COURSE they would fight but they were children, their stamina low, their battle savvy almost non existent. they didnt know who...WHAT they were up against.

No one said that Shade was simply a HUMAN mutant.

Still, as they began to fight back some of them are less effective for their collective goal of SURVIVAL.

Effy begins to hurl loose objects toward Shade. some of the LARGER things were beyond easy to dodge or avoid, but the sudden shift in space due to the young woman's TK and her obvious lack of experience matched only by the over emotional drive behind it did not go unnoticed by Shade as smaller objects including some of her own "dark energy daggers" came flying by her. one cleanly slices a thin strand of her raven black hair, another slices her cheek and flying computer monitor nearly slams DIRECTLY into her face as she throws her arm up and blocks it just narrowly. If there was one thing Shade did NOT appreciate it was any thing that tarnished her alluring looks.

More debris was flying her way. Did this child not realize how careless she was being, unknowingly endangering her OWN peers? Not Shade had a PROBLEM with Effy doing her work FOR her, but it was the lazy, amateurish way to COMPLETELY rely on the prey to be their own undoing.

Shade manipulates the shadow tendrils attacking Effy and DROPS her from the air to meet her OWN oncoming charge of debris and objects. the disadvantage to psychics was that they needed focus and concentration, the sudden shift in Effy's equilibrium would no doubt prevent her from being able to protect herself from her own onslaught.

Olivia, though hurt was not down yet, having the ability to transform into electricity, she CHARGED into Shade but she got more than she bargined for as she began to unleash her OWN energy into Shade. Despite her energy form, the girl found that the woman's internal "form" was completely composed of dark energy and was now FEEDING off of the POWER that Olivia was giving her. Olivia doesnt sense or feel any "organs" in Shade, nothing but cold, unrelenting BLACKNESS. They truly had no idea who they were dealing with.

Shade's outward physical form does convulse for moments and her head thrusts back. She LOOKS to be genuinely staggered before her eyes and mouth open and she EXPELLS Olivia's energy form from her body, leaving the girl DRAINED and DEADLY chilled to her BONES.

"hmmm. what a RUSH."

She says as she settles and cracks her neck, smirking with wicked delight.

SLICE

Shade stumbles forward, her raven black hair flowing forward and now covering her face as she looks as if she'll FALL down forward but she just teeters on her high heels.

an AXE? NO...the boy! Richard Martin an OMNImorph! he was JUST as "special" as she had suspected when reviewing his file in Finn's office. however, he was not exempt from humiliation either. Before she took him for HER OWN purposes, she'd slap him down just as she had the others.

he cuts her back, slicing through her jacket and shirt before hitting her physical form...and a bizarre sound is heard as an unholy blue/black energy comes flowing from her back like the shadowy tentacles of an octopus. the sound of screams of the dead and dying could be heard...coming from INSIDE HER? SHE knew what it was, but HE wouldnt. and even as he pulled away and appeared to check on Brenda, the DARKNESS envelopes him and swallows him, TRAPPING HIM as it begins to overwhelm him and SUFFOCATE him. he can't see, he can't FEEL anymore either.

Shade slowly straights herself up as the room grows cold and she looms over Jackson.

"You're way out of your league, stripling."

" And now, you're DEAD."

thrusting her arms out, a black hued field errupts from around her and expands outward as she unleashes a deadly blast of power that sends them ALL sprawling into the hallway. Richard is released but he too is now painfully COLD to the point of near unconsciousness having been touched by darkness.

Selene comes BLASTing through the doors of the control room like a MEGA killer shark ready to DESTROY them all. But she knows this is only the beginning. She's made them strike out in emotional defense, using heavy handed and often misguided attacks, taking more ofo their energy. they will try to escape and she will chase them. hunt them. KILL THEM. ALL OF THEM!

They moved into the control room, and Brenda felt a chill run down her spine. She still couldn't truly 'hear' the woman's thoughts, just a very faint impression of them. Brenda sensed a predatory tint to the woman's 'mind', and it may have just been that Brenda was suspicious, but the woman also seemed malevolent.

Effy called the woman out. Apparently, it wasn't such a good idea. Despite turning on every light in room, darkness spread out like a disease. Shade appeared in front of Brenda, who immediately held up her arms in defense.

Shade: "You're first…."

"No, WAIT!"

She stalled, to no avail. She had no ability to persuade this woman. Shade 'zapped' her with something that looked like lighting, but it wasn't hot, it was painfully COLD, and Brenda shuddered, crying out sharply in pain before striking out at anything within reach, backhanding Shade, kicking at her, anything to stop the attack. But in a physical fight, Brenda was sorely outmatched, despite being athletic and toned. She was still limited to HUMAN strength. Shade was drastically stronger than was natural and had NO problem overpowering Brenda and forcing her head into the wall. Brenda, feeling faint and seeing stars, lost her balance as Shade let her go and crashed to the floor.

"Gaaahhhh…"

She groaned, her head throbbing, but she began to recover pretty quickly. She was already withdrawing her 'broadcast' from her friends heads. She was still seeing double as Rich came over to help, and Brenda got a strong wiff of the most offensive smelling ammonia.

Rich: Wake up pretty girl so we can beat this bitch.

"I'm fine, help Livvie."

She was not fine, but Olivia was far more hurt. Brenda forces herself to her feet. They have to get OUT of here, they have to get AWAY from Shade. She is much more powerful and organized than the spiders were, and their attempts to defend themselves seemed to be in vain. Shade blasts them again, forcing them all out of the control room and into the hallway. Brenda broadcasts again, but this time it's not pain. This time she has everyone in unison to think the exact same thing: ESCAPE! Rich is helping Olivia and Brenda grabs Effy, pulling her to her feet and they all move in unison to retreat. If they can get outside, where there are people, WITNESSES, maybe they can stop the onslaught. Brenda could only hope this psycho shadow wasn't crazy enough to risk exposure.

Thankfully Livvie used her powers on the mystery woman, breaking her concentration enough for her to drop Effy. She choked and gasped, trying to catch her breath, her throat crushed and bruised.

She had no time really to recover before she was BLASTED into the hallway.

Effy made a hurt noise.

A split-second later her mind exploded with one all-encompassing thought: Escape. She felt Brenda pull her to her feet. And then they were moving, running.

Effy looked back at Archangel, the place they were leaving. She absentmindedly hoped the woman wouldn’t destroy it. The thought of not being able to go back there…

But then she pushed on. They were trying to blend into the crowds, moving towards Melrose Place and away from the dodgier part of town. Luckily someone had had the foresight, but she wasn’t sure who was leading at that moment. They just had to get away. They turned up Fairfax, and after a few blocks stopped to catch their breath. Effy was breathing hard, and desperately wanted a cigarette.

“Did she follow us?”

Shade: You're way out of your league, stripling.

It was the truth. Jackson had no idea what he was dealing with. He'd really never had to fight like this before. Everyone lashed out aggressively at this woman and here she was, still standing strong and even seeming to be mocking them as she went. She was stronger than them, and for a moment Jackson was scared. But he didn't have time to be scared. He didn't really have time to be anything as he was BLASTED out of the control room and into the hallway.

As he tried to gain his grounding and figure out a plan of attack, a thought intruded his mind. ESCAPE. They had to get out of here or they would die, and as much as he did NOT want to leave this woman at the foundation alone, they wouldn't be of much use to the foundation dead. Jackson followed the others as they scurried out of the foundation, up a few blocks, turning up Fairfax. They just walked, all in unison. One would think they had planned it, but they hadn't. They were really just running for their lives, just trying to escape the clutches of that woman. For the moment they had stopped.

Effy: Did she follow us?

Jackson shook his head.

"I don't think so, at least let's hope not. Brenda can you get a read on her?"

He turned his attention to Livvie for a moment.

"We've got to get you to the hospital. You're still pretty badly injured. And furthermore, was that woman MysTech? She seemed to have a plan all her own. I don't know, it just didn't seem like their M.O."

Rich made deep cut into the woman's back, but then he felt it. COLD. Cold as SHIT. He instinctively dissipated even as it pulled part of him inside and he could feel it, over part of his body, like it was inside his very soul. COLD.

The mystery woman blasted them all out into the main room and he began to regroup, his body before her dissipating as he tried to shake her effect on him. At that point a thought intruded his mind: ESCAPE! He knew they had to go, but he was not convinced she would just LET them, so as the others fled he made one more move:

He BECAME a sandstorm, much more malevolent than Isis had seen the night before, part of him coalescing around Shade and then changing to diamond, scratching savagely at her face and eyes before dissipating entirely. He was gone...undetectable and already meeting with the rest of the group having located them from above, reformed and stepped out from an alleyway, walking briskly to match their pace...

This woman wasn't going down. Every attack they did to her, she simply brushed it off like they were gnats bugging her. And Olivia didn't have the strength to do another massive attack...she just wanted to run away. She wasn't trained for this--for battle! Rich attempted to attack her, but again, it was rebuffed. The woman blasted everyone through the control room doors and out into the hall. Olivia tumbled painfully to a halt, feeling like her body was on fire. ESCAPE! Despite feeling weak and hurt, she got this sudden urge to escape. It was like an adrenaline rush. Picking herself up, Olivia began to run like hell, following Brenda, Jackson, and Effy.

Out of breath and energy, finally they turned onto Fairfax and stopped. Heaving in shallow breaths, Livvie rested up against a car, pressing her hand onto her stomach wound. FUCK this hurt.

Jackson: We've got to get you to the hospital. You're still pretty badly injured.

[still out of breath] "I'm okay...it's not that...deep."

Honestly, Olivia had no clue if it was deep or not. She didn't even know if it was life threatening. The vast majority of her medical knowledge came from Grey's Anatomy...so that was no help. But they couldn't afford to go the hospital now, not while there was some psycho shadow woman on their trail.

"Whoever she is, she's not fucking around...."

Looking down the street, it was nearly morning rush hour. They needed to get out of public sight [considering their current state] and regroup.

"Common...my apartment's a couple blocks down the street on Wilshire....we can regroup there."

Aside from Rich lagging behind to get in a parting shot, everyone listened to their 'instincts' and ran. They left the building as if it were going to explode. They moved like a group that was receiving direction. They were, in effect. Brenda took them all up Fairfax.

Effy: Did she follow us?

Jackson: I don't think so, at least let's hope not. Brenda, can you get a read on her?

"No…. I don't know where she went."

She admitted. She was looking for Shade, but there were more people around now, more thoughts crowding Brenda's head, and Shade didn't exactly think loudly, if she thought at ALL. Rich, who'd now caught up with them, hadn't missed the fact that Shade didn't BLEED when he sliced her back, and Brenda was making note of that herself. Was Shade even HUMAN?? If she wasn't… that might explain why Brenda couldn't hear the woman clearly.

Jackson: [to Olivia] We've got to get you to the hospital. You're still pretty badly injured.

Olivia: I'm okay… it's not that… deep.

"OKAY?? Livvie, you can barely STAND. You are NOT okay. Jackson, CARRY HER please. She shouldn't be moving around and exerting herself so much. Effy, are we too far away from the Foundation for you to access its database? I know Delilah kept the information for a doctor on file, in case any of us got hurt in such a way that would be difficult to explain to ER staff."

Jackson: Was that woman Mystech? She seemed to have a plan all her own.

"She was TRYING to kill us. She may as WELL be with Mystech."

Brenda was right. It didn't really matter who the mysterious woman was with. She had attacked them, could have easily killed them.

"Let's face it, if she'd wanted to kill us, she could have. The question is why didn't she."

Effy breathed in the cool night air, watched the lights flicker around her. Somehow, she had never felt more alone than in that moment.

Brenda asked about accessing the Foundation's database. Effy stuck her hand in her pocket and brought out a blackberry, holding it up for her to see. Luckily it hadn't been damaged. Somehow.

"I don't need to be close, as long as I have this."

She was silent for a second, then asked for the apartment's address.

After another minute of walking towards Livvie's, she said, "The Doctor will meet us there."

What she didn't tell them, was that she had met this particular Doctor once before. Delilah had arranged for them to meet back when Effy had first come to the Foundation, back when she didn't speak. But it wasn't her psychological training that they needed now.

Effy had used her access to the internet to send a message...to none other than Dr. Karen Victoria herself. After giving the address...

Please come. A child needs emergency medical attention. Can't go to hospital. - A friend of Delilah's

the magick doctor

<< It didnt take long for the doctor to suddenly APPEAR before the children. the odd sound of chimes heralding her arrival. THIS doctor didnt wear traditional garb. Not anymore, she wore the flying suit indicating her status as a WITCH.>>

<< Doctor Victoria a.k.a Shadow Weaver, was the MOTHER of Morgan Victoria and a friend, as well as a surrogate mother to Delilah Trelevan. She was a long time ally and support to the Six.>>

<< Effy called her and per her promise to Delilah, she appeared to help these children but she was NOT the woman she was before. GONE were her days of maternal kindness, replaced by a cold, matter of fact demeanor.>>

<< not caring who among them might realize WHO she actually was, or that she was the 2nd magick user they'd been exposed to in less than an hour, the bewitching doctor looked upon the children with a scowl of her face before the expression softened JUST a bit.>>

I received your message.

<< she said in a cold, elegant voice.>>

who among you is injured?

<< she looked and found that Olivia and Brenda were in the worst shape.>>

move aside.

<< she ordered to Jackson and Richard as she gestured and with another mystic sound, Brenda and Olivia suddenly but briefly disappear. Two exam tables suddenly appeared with Olivia and Brenda now LAYING on them. Karen, in this timeline, LIBERALLY used her magick for all sorts of things, even simple mortal activities, moving further away from mortal trappings and becoming colder in the process. It was one of many deep effects resulting from the loss of her daughter and the others.>>

I see....

<< Karen herself was now suddenly between them, she briefly examined them with a wand as she slowly moved the one over each woman to determine their injuries. the wand then disappears from her hand as she begins to gesture, weaving a pattern of power.>>

hold still.

<< she says flatly.>>

<< from her well manicured hands sparkling orbs form, swell and swirl around them and magickal power takes shape as she turns and releases the globe of power toward Brenda.>>

You'll feel a slight tingle, but it won't hurt you.

<< a spinning melody of chimes is faintly heard as the wounded area's of Brenda's body begin to glow while Karen repeats the process with Olivia. they would both be healed, their bodies stabilized and returned to normal. Shadow Weaver then lifts her arms up, spreading her cape up as she does so. the tables disappear and Brenda and Olivia are suddenly standing with Richard and Jackson. They are just a bit dizzy from the sudden and repeated "moving" from one space to another. Karen herself is now standing in front of Effy.>>

Your throat is nearly crushed.

<< Karen took a SLIGHTLY warmer stance with Effy, perhaps because this was the first child she'd seen from Delilah...and because she was the last strong link to Delilah's memory that Karen had since her own life had been FOREVER changed following the death of the Six.>>

<< waving her index and middle finger from left to right around Effy's neck area, a trail of sprarkling energy flows and surrounds her like a choker before soothing and HEALING, restoring all damage and setting things right.>>

Is there anything else, Elizabeth?

<< not one for nicknames, Karen addressed the young woman by her full name. Elizabeth was smart enough to know that Karen was Morgan's mother and that she'd suffered a terrible loss. Karen didnt HAVE to come but she did in honor of her agreement with Delilah. These chidren were alone in a world that they know saw was quite scarey thanks to "people" like SHADE so it would be WISE for them NOT to allienate any possible sources of support they might have.>>

Brenda: OKAY?? Livvie, you can barely STAND. You are NOT okay. Jackson, CARRY HER please.

"Brenda..."

Sighing, why did SHE have to be the one who got hurt? Fucking shadow woman....she wished Delilah was around so she could light up the bitches world and blast her to Timbuktu. Feeling Jackson pick her up like she weighed nothing, Liv snaked her arm around the back of his neck to hold on to him.

"Well this is inconspicuous."

Despite feeling like a complete burden, she had to admit, she felt 10 times better in Jackson's arms than standing on her own two feet. She didn't realize how weak she felt until that moment. Taking a moment to rest, Effy then asked for Livvie's address so the doctor could meet them at her apartment. Giving it to her, after a few moment, Effy sent the directions.

[pointing down the street] "My apartments that way."

As everyone began to walk down Fairfax toward Wilshire, Livvie directed them toward the Wilshire Royal apartment building. It was a beautifully restored 1920's apartment building that Livvie had been living in for over a year. It wasn't as grand or luxorious as Brenda or Jackson's lifestyle, but considering she had been on her own since the age of 15, it wasn't half bad either. Directing everyone toward the parking garage, there was a elevator that could take them up to her apartment. She really didn't want to draw any more attention to the group by taking them through the main lobby. Arriving at the 15th floor, they headed down the hallway until reaching 15-D, Livvie's apartment.

"My keys are in my purse back at the foundation....Rich?"

Who needed a locksmith when you had Rich? If only she knew him before yesterday...she could have save a shit load of money spent on Pop-A-Lock. Doing his funky morphing thing, Rich opened Livvie's apartment door like it was nothing. Jackson walked inside first, carrying Olivia. The apartment was pre-decorated, but it was definitely within Olivia's taste: Funky and ecletic. That's what drew her to it in the first place.

Laying on her zebra print couch was a a white kitten with orange eyes; about 8 months old. With everyone coming into Olivia's apartment, he woke up, wondering what the hell was going on.

"Move Bones..."

Bones--appropriately named due to Olivia finding him on Halloween--got up and jumped off the couch just as Jackson put her down on it. He was a pretty chill cat and headed over toward Effy, Brenda, and Rich, deciding to check them out. It was rare that there were strangers in Olivia's house, so he had to get his sniff on.

"Thanks for the lift Jack."

Laying back on the couch, Olivia's lips began to tremble as she put more pressure on her stab wound. The wound itself felt cold...which probably wasn't normal and due to Shade's powers. But Olivia beginning to become cold herself was definitely a sign she was going into shock. She didn't want to make a big deal out of it, but luckily for her, the 'doctor' arrived.

"Whoa.."

The woman just appeared in the room dressed like she was ready for Halloween. Obviously this wasn't a normal doctor. She turned her attention to both herself and Brenda, making them disappear and reappear on medical beds. This was a bit freaky, but she wasn't about to ask the woman who can make things disappear any questions.

Karen: You'll feel a slight tingle, but it won't hurt you.

With a slight worried expression on her face, Olivia's body began to tingle. But after a few minutes, she began to feel 100 times better. The coldness was fading, both from her wound and throughout her body. And after a few more minutes, she was healed. Running her hand across where her wound once was, Olivia sat up, amazed.

"Wow...thanks."

Olivia: I'm okay...it's not that..deep.

Jackson took a moment and surveyed her up and down. Olivia was not in fine shape. She had been stabbed. She was cut and bleeding. Though that had never HAPPENED to Jackson before in his life, he knew from others that you didn't merely walk these types of things off. Thankfully, Brenda concurred.

Brenda: Jackson, CARRY HER please.

Livvie resisted at first but let him scoop her up in his arms as they made plans to meet some mysterious doctor at Livvie's apartment. He had never heard of her but he figured it was their best option at this point. The others were right, they couldn't just go into a hospital with a seventeen year old girl cut up and bruised without answering questions. The only problem was questions were all they had. Effy was right. Jackson pondered reasons as to why this woman didn't kill them. She could have... very easily. It almost seemed as if she was testing them for some reason.

She had to have been from MysTech. The girl with the chip in her head. With people like the Shadow running around, why mess with children? They had to be testing these kids, seeing what they could do and either exploiting their abilities or merely killing them. But nevermind that at the moment, now they headed into Livvie's apartment and Jackson got a good look around. Though Olivia may have thought her place was small, Jackson thought it was absolutely perfect. He may have had the money, but Livvie had the life. Nobody to answer to, a place of her own. Chosen solitude, not the kind he was forced to live in now. He was a little bit jealous.

Olivia brushed a cat out of the way of the couch (Jackson hated cats) and he set her down, and simply waited. And there she was.

Karen Victoria appeared absolutely out of nowhere. She was tall and beautiful and icy, and she most definitely did NOT look like a Doctor. She looked like she was a witch. She worked almost silent and fast as Olivia and Brenda dissappeared for a moment and returned almost as fast as they had gone, completely healed. He watched as she examined Effy (or should he say Elizabeth) and healed her as well.

He had to know her from somewhere, she looked so familiar. That icy glare and demeanor reminded him of the late Morgan Victoria for a moment. Perhaps they were related? It made sense to him.

"Wow.."

For now, he waited in silence, not really sure if he should say anything. The last mysterious woman they encountered wanted to butcher them all, so Jack wasn't taking his chances with her.

Effy hadn't even been thinking of herself, but as Karen's orbs of energy surrounded and healed her, it was as if a cooling wind put out the fire in her throat. It was strange seeing Doctor Victoria again, and she didn't really want the others to know WHY the Doctor knew who she was. But in some ways, it was like being with Delilah again. Even if the woman in front of her seemed much more distant than she had on their first meeting.

Shadow Weaver said:
Is there anything else, Elizabeth?

Effy shook her head.

"I'm sorry for contacting you like this, Doctor Victoria. Delilah once told me that if I was ever in trouble and she wasn't around, that I should find you."

As formal as Karen was with her, she was with Karen. The Doctor was probably the only adult she respected enough to NOT use their first name. She looked around, not sure what to say.

"But thank you for coming."

After a pause, she cleared her throat.

"I don't suppose YOU would know anything about a woman who- who uses shadows to hurt people? She attacked us at the Archangel Foundation."
