Effy took Brenda's hand, and together they inched their way towards the control room. Effy had visions of maniacs with butcher knives, and Brenda WISHED that was all they'd have to deal with. Effy 'spotted' the woman, by identifying her powers. Well, the good news was that Brenda wasn't imagining minds that didn't exist. The bad news was the LAUNDRY LIST of abilities the woman had. Oh, AWESOME. Brenda thought sarcastically as Effy mentally noted how completely FUCKED they were. Brenda nodded grimly and immediately steered Effy away from the control room, back to the Kitchen where Rich and Olivia were. Power in numbers, they'd seen that last night.
Rich: I… got it. Can't have the police tracking us down. We got enough problems as it is.
Olivia: That's the understatement of the year.
Rich then asked for Olivia's number, wondering if she was also HOMELESS, thoughts which immediately alarmed Brenda, who would have insisted he stay in a room at the Hotel Roosevelt, which her dad owned, if she had KNOWN last night that he was going to sleep in a CAVE. She didn't out him in front of everyone, but duly noted his situation and resolved to talk with him about it in private. Jackson arrived and could instantly tell something was up. It must have been the way Brenda was absentmindedly clutching Effy's arm, and the fact that they were still holding hands and generally looking like two freaked out chicks in a horror movie. The only reason Brenda didn't jump for the ceiling when he first spoke was because she heard his mind approaching.
Jackson: What's wrong?
Brenda cleared her throat. There were two ways to play this. They could continue to allow whoever was in the control room to believe that the teens were oblivious to their presence, or they could flat out confront them and find out what they were doing there. Since Brenda didn't feel comfortable discussing Mystech and their plans with the lurker listening in, obviously they would have to just call the woman out. Now that everyone was here, maybe they stood a chance…. Or maybe the woman just wanted to talk to them. The PROBLEM was that Brenda didn't know. The woman was practically a mental mute. Brenda, not wanting to sound as creeped out as she was, used the best nonchalant deadpan she could muster.
"There's a magic flying/teleporting shadow woman in the control room. She's watching us, listening in on this very conversation, in fact."
