Norman Lear mulling 'All in the family' reboot for 2015 from Sony

---------------

Norman Lear is a ground breaking producer & gave us many socially relevant & impacting programs for the better part of 30 yrs, but would 'All in the family' work into today's ultra sensitive world? I feel like in some ways, American society has regressed since the days of the original 'All in the family', a show that took prejudice & bigotry & made it look as stupid as it actually was & made us laugh @ it.

He tried a reboot once before, putting a black family in the same house that the Bunkers resided in, but that didnt even last 1 season. It's possible he might do a latino family in the upcoming reboot.

I think what's the point? TV has been having the same types of conversations The Bunkers had for years now. Plus American families by and large are blended, and multiracial. There's not a lot of a need for this kind of thing. If you look in the right places, you will see this type of dialogue happening all over television...and people either laugh at it, get the joke or they think it's racist and prejudice and turn the channel...and that ALL happens in the writing.

American families are indeed more blended & multiracial now, America in general is getting "browner" but you wouldnt know it based on elections & TV still has a ways to go before it truly reflects all America. Some topics & situations depicted on All in the family would cause backlash today b/c audiences are so sensitive now & Lear was trying to get ppl to laugh their prejudices that time, where as now they find all kind of reasons to cling tightly to them (religious freedom etc)

There probably ISNT a need for that reboot , but I think it's more b/c today's audiences couldnt handle it. There's so much nice programing now & ppl can find something that caters to their own narrow minded tastes if they are that way, so a show like this would offend theire sensibilities. It certainly offended ppl back then too, but more ppl LIKED that than didnt & it stayed, & it made history. I dont think that'll happen into day's "market".
