I was thinking about how HIV works and whether it can actually be cured.

HIV destroys TCells and TCells are instrumental in making the immune system work.

The more the immune system works the more TCells are produced and the more the TCells are destroyed by the HIV virus. - A catch 22 scenario.

Because the HIV virus is a foriegn aspect too the human body the immune system naturally attacks it and ultimately destroys itself.

So medical care attempts to hinder the immune system, or mask the HIV virus, ultimately protecting it from the immune system. If there was a vaccination that could destroy the HIV virus it would also damage if not irreparably damage the immune system due to its increased involvement and the added production of TCells.

So can anyone actually see a suggested or possible method to create a cure?

(Radiotherapy won't work that would destroy Cells and the Virus is not easily pinpointed).

its common sense for every virus there is an anti virus (either its already here or it will be , its just a matter of time). what do you think vaccines are? or anti venom for snake bites?
if anyone here could suggest a "cure" i think the CDC or other entities would be storming this board right about now lol.


people use "western medicine" as a bench mark for treating/curing diseases, and some people think that pharmaceuticals and drug companies "are doing all they can." personally i'm not content to believe that.

AIDS brings in a TREMENDOUS amount of revenue for drug companies. to admit/release a cure would end what has become the most profitable disease in our history so far. American Drug Companies dont even like the fact that some citizens purchase/fill their prescriptions in Canada because its so much cheaper there.

Whether or not there's actually a cure, i couldnt say "as a matter of fact". I strongly suspect there's something out there that is being kept on the hush. how else would you explain Magic Johnson, who went away for 2 years after admitting he had HIV and then he came claiming to be completely healed/cured.

The rich/wealthy and powerfull have access to a quality of life most of us wouldnt even dream of. they are privy to a level of health care and other considerations that most of us wouldnt even consider and so i suspect a "cure" is available to those who are willing to PAY the cost.

You are flawlessly right! However what I was hoping for was suggestion around the Catch 22 scenario I laid out. In the animal kingdom there is no cure for IV infected species expect that the body doesn't attack it and that makes the virus inert.

However that isn't a cure. Just by looking at the way the virus works there is almost no logical path towards a cure.

Oh god no I like going into (Chinese) herbal centers or my delve into my Jamaican remedies and soups to battle simple colds, flu and so forth. Hell one time I went to Jamaica I had a bad stomach, my Grandad pulled a leaf from a random tree and said chew this. The next day I was cured!

So very very true I feel healthcare should be free for all like in England The Doctor asked me to pay for my Hayefever tablets. I took one look at him and he wrote me a free perscription. I don't see why I should have to pay to function properly in society and the working world.

I did a massive search on this and NO WHERE could explain it. right now I'm not above saying he signed up for Government testing....

Twenty-five years have passed and look at how widespread the disease is now. It really is amazing and a little scary to think how many lives have been affected by AIDS.

I was fortunate enough to be born and raised during a time when I could be educated early about the disease. I remember back in elementary school watching iirc The Ryan White Story, which detailed how the ignorance and fear of people could make having the disease worse.

Personally, I think that had it not been thought of as a "homosexual disease" we'd be farther along in the research of it. But because Reagan thought it was God's way of punishing sinners he turned a blind eye to it. How that man is considered to be one of the greatest presidents of all-time I will never know.

I remember the scare of AIDS back in the day, when the disease was first introduced. Not many people knew about it or what it was capable of. Everyone believed it was the "gay disease" as some of you already mentioned. I never knew anyone with HIV or AIDS, but my brother did.
I recall the shocking news about the basketball star Magic Johnson. He was one of my favorite all time players. I remember reading the reaction of his teammates. Some of the NBA refused to play with Magic because of this. But slowly, more people became educated on this deadly virus.
