LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - Adele's "21" just set a 21st-century record by topping the Billboard/SoundScan sales chart for a 12th non-consecutive week, it's logged more time at No. 1 than any other album to come out since the turn of the millennium.

---------

I like the fact the article mentions that while this is an accomplishment it pales in comparison to scale of sales records set by artists in the most recent era bygone & neither she nor her contemporaries will ever match the sales feats of record setting/breaking artists before them in the boom-era which ended in 1999-2000. I wont diss Adele, but I preferred Amy Winehouse's vocal stylings to her's. I see that "LMFAO" is still doing well on the charts. I guess i finally can understand the sentiment that my generation's boomer parents had when they wondered what the hell we were listening but its funny that they will agree w/ us that the stuff from BOTH our eras is better than this bullshit ["LMFAO", Rebecca Black etc]. Its hard to notice the actual TALENT when you're so busy trying to avoid all the bullshit that is pumped over radio waves these days.

I am totally serious about what I'm about to post: Could someone explain Adele's popularity to me?

I'm not ripping on her, she definitely can sing and everything, but I heard Joe Jonas and a lot of other people say that she is the greatest artist of this generation and I just don't see it. Her song sounds like retro stuff, not anything groundbreaking or new.

I seriously want someone to explain to me what I seem to be missing about her.

well you're doing better then me in this so far cause i never heard of her before this post

LMAO @ BK! I love it! :haha: I'm aware of her, but again...I think Amy Winehouse had wayyy better vocal stylings than her & ever since Kanye West declared HIMSELF "the artist of a generation"....that phrase has completely lost value. Artists who ARE some voice/force of a generation usually arent the ones to declare themselves that. It happens after they've amassed a body of work (music, performances, interviews, etc). How in the hell can Joe Jonas declare Adele ' the greatest artist of this generation' when she's only had ONE ALBUM?? LOL

She's actually had 2 albums. ;)

Adele's voice is beyond amazing. I first fell in love with her when I heard her single "Hometown Glory".

I don't know why she's become so popular in the US as of late, but I know she has been a huge hit in the UK for a few years. I think why people are so taken with her is because she isn't the typical artist you see now adays. You have the Katy Perry's, and Beyonce's, and Lady Gaga's, who are talented, but also use their sexuality to gain ground. Adele is an average woman who has a set of pipes that knocks all those woman out of the water. She became famous from talent alone, which is obviously a lost form in Hollywood these days.

I don't think she's the "artist of our generation", but I think if she continues putting out fabulous records and continues her success in the industry, she could definitely become it.
