A Weekend Affair # 5 - The White Brunch

The Black King & Queen's Suite

They held each other, wrapped so intricately together it would be hard to see where one ended and the other began. He was always so overcome with emotion in times like this, overwhelmed by his love for her, by the feeling of her love returned. He struggled to express it. Trying to to tell her that they stood together, that there was nothing that could happen that could break them apart. He stroked her hair as she was quiet for a moment.

Ava: "Do you think I'm overreacting?"

"What? No."

He moved his head to look at her, her eyes meeting his.

"Listen. I've had to stand by silent for a long time now, but that doesn't mean I don't have eyes and ears. And what I've noticed about the others? They don't think of the consequences of their actions. Maybe in business they do, but not in their personal lives. Haleigh has not been having an increasingly close relationship with some pawn or servant: this is the Red King we're talking about. How could she think that could go on forever? And Cameron with his open marriage and sexual appetites: what basis was that for a strong court? And Alek...Alek should have known better than any of them."

He shook his head.

"But they all wanted what they wanted and threw reason out the window."

He cupped his hand against her cheek.

"You are not like them, Ava. Even when you're angry you think before you act. You calculate the risks."

He hesitated.

"Your father should be proud of the Queen you've become. I am proud of you. Proud for you to be my Queen. I always have been."

Ava: "Truthfully...I feel like I lost my two best friends [Haleigh and Ashley]....but I can't get this overwhelming feeling of anger to stop. Of jealousy and pain - I just....I hate feeling so out of control, John."

He kissed her lips softly.

"You are allowed to have emotions, Ava. And you were right earlier: you shouldn't be the one who has to clean up their messes. But just try and remember: this isn't about you. They are still your friends - they didn't do this to hurt you."

He brushed her hair behind her ear.

"Even if they did hurt you. But it's okay to be angry. And to tell them you're angry. You can't keep it bottled inside you until you explode."

He gave her a soft smile.

"And I'm here. We'll work through these things, together. It's not going to happen overnight. But I'm not going anywhere. Anywhere you're not."

Ava laid tangled within John's arms, his words about supporting her playing in her head. Was he supportive because he was her King? Or was she overreacting about the entire situation. Ava felt so out of control emotionally, it was starting to make her second guess everything. She was a woman who, for lack of a better term, was a control freak. This weekend was testing that.

John: "What? No."

He pulled back to look into her eyes, Ava's filled with uncertainty.

John: "Listen. And Alek...Alek should have known better than any of them. But they all wanted what they wanted and threw reason out the window."

That much Ava agreed on. She never understood Haleigh and Cameron's relationship, but she always attributed it to her just being selfish when it came to lovers. She hated sharing, the thought of a man she loved being with another woman was like a knife to the chest. But that was why she never let herself love someone before. She never admitted it before, but it was because she was scared that if she let herself open up to someone, they would break her heart and leave her for another. But Haleigh and Cameron made a game of it, one she was slightly envious of up until this weekend. Now she knew her initial thoughts were true....she would never share John with another woman, not unless they agreed to bring one into the bedroom for fun...even then she'd probably kill the bitch after.

"They're games are fucking up everything we've built. Everything we fought for. I don't understand how they didn't think this would happen?"

It was such a logical step, one that baffled Ava. How Cameron, Alek, and Haleigh didn't think their games would lead to this was straight stupidity on all of their parts.

John: "You are not like them, Ava. Even when you're angry you think before you act. You calculate the risks."

"I don't know about that....you had to talk me down last night..."

Ava saw nothing but red last night, and had John not been there, the situation could have been so much worse. John looked at her, hesitant before he spoke.

John: "Your father should be proud of the Queen you've become. I am proud of you. Proud for you to be my Queen. I always have been."

Ava was taken aback by his words, especially how he said her father would be proud of her. She knew John's stance on Starvos, and knew how he couldn't stand how he treated and manipulated Ava. So for him to say that? It was shocking to say the least. But he followed it up by saying that he was proud of her, Ava's eyes soft with a bit of humbled embarrassment, her hand gently sliding along his jawline.

"John...that means...more than you know.."

She softly whispered between them. Sometimes she questioned her abilities to be Queen because she looked at Ashley and Haleigh as such strong and powerful rulers. They rarely fucked up...at least up until this weekend. And now, Ava questioned whether or not they would be able to get past all of this. Ashley was loyal to a fault, and she knew she would support Haleigh which could ultimately pit her against Ava. And Haleigh? Their friendship was crumbling before Ava's feet. She told John she felt like she was loosing them, but that she couldn't get past the pain, jealousy, and rage of what was going on. Her emotions driving her over her logic. He softly kissed her lips, making the tension ease from her body just a bit.

John: "You are allowed to have emotions, Ava. And you were right earlier: you shouldn't be the one who has to clean up their messes. But just try and remember: this isn't about you. They are still your friends - they didn't do this to hurt you."

John tucked her hair behind her ear, Ava shutting her eyes at the gentle and soothing gesture. She knew he was right, logically she did. She knew Haleigh didn't wake up and say lets hurt Ava by getting pregnant twice, that'll be a fun game. She knew Haleigh was aware of how Ava felt about wanting children. But she still couldn't help but feel like it was a direct fuck you to her.

"I know..."

She finally admitted quietly.

John: "Even if they did hurt you. But it's okay to be angry. And to tell them you're angry. You can't keep it bottled inside you until you explode."

Ava softly scoffed.

"That's what I do best."

She said with a dark cynicism. Ava was notorious for keeping her emotions in check because 'that's what Cassadines did'. So much so that when she reached her boiling point, she would lose her shit in an operatic display of blood and bone. The thought of opening up and pouring out her feelings to Haleigh and Ashley was about as appealing as drinking hot acid. She refused to let them see her weaker than she already felt.

John: "And I'm here. We'll work through these things, together. It's not going to happen overnight. But I'm not going anywhere. Anywhere you're not."

Ava gently nodded, her face burying into John's neck as she hugged herself closer to him.

"I wish we didn't have to work through these things at all. [sighing] But thank you..."

She couldn't help the way she felt, but John made her feel as if it was okay. That her being upset wasn't her overreacting. That her feelings were validated. That she wasn't acting completely foolish.

"Like I said earlier....if you weren't here...I would have done far worse than just disappear to Arklay last night..."

Steel hated when Ava second guessed herself. She was the strongest woman at Hellfire, with the most level head. But her father had screwed her up so much that she couldn’t believe it.

So when she questioned her reaction to the turmoil Haleigh, Cameron and Alek had brought to the Club, in front of their guests, he told her exactly what he thought.

Ava: "They're games are fucking up everything we've built. Everything we fought for. I don't understand how they didn't think this would happen?"

“Because they believed they were above it all.”

He told her she was different, more calculating.

Ava: "I don't know about that....you had to talk me down last night..."

“You were angry, yes, but you weren’t about to destroy the entire club over it.”

Her father should be proud of the way Ava conducted herself as queen. He was. And he said so.

Ava: "John...that means...more than you know.."

“It’s the truth. And if he can’t see it? Well, fuck him.”

He had hated gaving to obey Stavros, be silent when he belittled Ava. But he didn’t have to do that anymore. He kissed her and gave her the truth if it. Haleigh wasn't trying to hurt her.

Ava: "I know..."

“And if it were you, she would want you to take the opportunity.”

But Ava couldn’t keep her emotions bottled up like this.

Ava: "That's what I do best."

And hevwas with her, he told her.

He squeezed her tight as she buried herself against him.

Ava: "I wish we didn't have to work through these things at all. [sighing] But thank you..."

He smiled sympathetically.

“I wish I could make it all go away but I can’t.”

Ava: "Like I said earlier....if you weren't here...I would have done far worse than just disappear to Arklay last night..."

He shook his head.

“You don’t give yourself enough credit. You would probably still be fuming, but you wouldn’t have done anything you regretted. You are strong enough to stand on your own, Ava. You don’t need me for that.”

He smiled.

“I just hope you don’t decide to cut me loose any time soon.”

John tried explaining to her that this situation wasn't Haleigh trying to purposely hurt her. This was all a giant chain reaction of shitty choices made by Haleigh, Cameron, and Alek that just so happened lead to Haleigh getting pregnant with their babies. It wasn't done maliciously, as her mother's name suggested, but it didn't make the situation any less painful.

John:
“And if it were you, she would want you to take the opportunity.”

That gave Ava pause. Ava knew Haleigh would support her if she had gotten pregnant, or was trying to go through some strange magickal methods of getting pregnant. Whether Ava made shitty decisions or not, Haleigh was always there to back her play. Case and point, stealing Sub Zero from Archer. That was why Ava felt so betrayed by all this. It wasn't done intentionally on Haleigh's part, but her choices were effecting everyone. This could potentially ruin the club and destroy everything they built. It could ruin their friendship because if Ava was honest with herself....she didn't know if she could look at those children without harboring some kind of animosity and jealousy. It pained her to think that way, but it was part of the reason why being angry was so much easier than admitting it.

"I know she would...."

This was why it was so much easier keeping everything bottled up inside, but John told her it would be better to tell Haleigh that she was angry than keep it building within her until she exploded. But that was what Ava did best. Withdraw, hold in her feelings, and explode when she couldn't take it anymore. Ava buried her face under John's chin, hiding it away from him so he wouldn't see the sadness on her face. She just wished they didn't have to go through this entire fucked up situation to begin with.

John: “I wish I could make it all go away but I can’t.”

She squeezed herself closer to him, appreciating his support. Without him, she would have lost it completely the night before.

John: “You don’t give yourself enough credit. You would probably still be fuming, but you wouldn’t have done anything you regretted."

You give me far too much credit. Ava thought, knowing that maybe she wouldn't have actually hurt Haleigh, but she would have done some hurtful things to her.

John: "You are strong enough to stand on your own, Ava. You don’t need me for that. I just hope you don’t decide to cut me loose any time soon.”

Ava kissed John's chest, right where his heart was.

"Never."

She murmured before pulling back enough to look into his eyes.

"And I hope you don't decide i'm too much work and cut me loose. Fifteen years of this...i'm surprised you haven't already."

She joked, though a bit grimly at the thought of John unable to stand her bullshit anymore and leaving her. If he left.....Ava shook her head, the thought causing her stomach to turn. She didn't want to think about it let alone talk about it.

"We have a few more minutes before we have to head out....want to turn on the cup? I think the Germany/Mexico game is on."

She gave him a little smile, knowing how much he loved soccer.

"And we should probably let Amanda know we'll be going to the White Brunch..."

Ava said with a bit of a sigh as she turned her body around so she was laying with her back to John, tucked up against him. Grabbing the remote from the coffee table, she handed it to John before picking up her phone. Pulling up Amanda's text thread, she sent her Knight a text.

>>"John and I have returned to Hellfire for the White Brunch. Our court needs to be more unified than ever for what's to come. We will see you shortly."

Ava left Amanda with that tid bit of information, wanting to give her future princess an inkling that there was in fact shit brewing around the club with the White Court. Ava didn't want to tell her specifically over text, that would be a conversation best suited face to face. Putting her phone down, the game was already on and Ava hugged John's arm against her, getting more comfortable.

"Who are you rooting for?"

The Black King & Queen's Suite

Steel wanted Ava to see how amazing she was, how strong and intelligent and cunning and brave. But a part of him also liked that now she was leaning on him, letting him be her strength. He told her she didn't need him...but also that he hoped she wouldn't get rid of him either. She kissed his chest.

Ava: "Never."

He smiled, and touched her hair when she pulled back to look up at him.

Ava: "And I hope you don't decide I'm too much work and cut me loose. Fifteen years of this...I'm surprised you haven't already."

"Never."

He mimicked her answer, dipping his head to kiss her.

"I know every thing there is to know about you, Ava Cassadine. You can't do anything that would make me leave your side. You had me hooked the first time I ever saw you, standing there with your stubborn chin sticking out, holding that horrendous fake ID, and not giving a chuff about anyone in the place."

He grinned at the memory, the day he met her and changed his life forever.

Ava: "We have a few more minutes before we have to head out....want to turn on the cup? I think the Germany/Mexico game is on."

He looked at her like a naughty schoolboy, trying to pretend he didn't want to but obviously really wanting to. He took the remote from her with glee, switching the large television on.

Ava: "And we should probably let Amanda know we'll be going to the White Brunch..."

"Right, babe."

If he could forget everything else that was happening, it was really was a perfect moment. His arm around Ava, the match on...

"That's a penalty you tosser!"

He gestured at the screen.

Ava: "Who are you rooting for?"

"Well..."

He settled into the couch, pleased and a bit excited to get to talk football with Ava.

"We've got an Arsenal man on the Germany squad - Ozil, that's him - so as much as I normally would be against the Germans, I think in this case we've got to root for them."

Hellfire - The Black Wing

Brienne was a little spitfire, but Zach wasn’t afraid to meet her at her measure. He told her about herself, and reminded her that she couldn’t fool him about the way she felt. She didn’t like that, but he wasn’t deterred.

He could sense that working through it was helping. So they continued to shout it out, getting it all out, until the anger was spent. Then he told her that he still wanted her, after all that. But he didn’t want it to be on orders, he wanted it to be real.

Brienne: Why are you doing this?

“Gods, woman, I just told you why.”

Brienne didn’t believe him though, that was clear. She asked if it was because she’d used magick on his Queen. She said she didn’t know about Cameron’s aversion, and that she hadn’t hurt Haleigh. He believed it, because if she had, his orders would’ve been to kill her, not fuck her. Or they might’ve sent Heidi instead of him, but more likely they would come for her themselves.

“This isn’t about them anymore, Brienne. This is about you and me.”

She said, but she was shaking her head, folding her arms across her chest.

“You don’t believe me.”

He reached for her, gripping her wrists, pulling her hands to his face. He closed his eyes for a moment, and just shared the way he felt. The loneliness, the longing, the desire. When he opened his eyes he found her gaze.

“Do you believe me now?”

His hands ran down her arms to her shoulders, then down her back. He pulled her pain away, and the regret.

“I don’t want this to be about strategy anymore. I don’t want meaningless either.”

He told her, and then he pressed his lips to hers slowly.

The Red Lounge

The three of them stood there, trying to discern why Cameron would have left Haleigh here at Hellfire while he disappeared off the face of the earth. Without having one of them - one who was not Alek - be tasked with protecting Haleigh.

Savage: "Well he DID try to come talk to us, last night, on the dance floor, before his sister dragged him away."

"That's right. I had forgotten. I thought he was going to yell because I didn't tell Alek something."

This couldn't be part of that plan? No, again, he would never leave Haleigh with Alek. He would have taken Alek with him before doing that. The thought hit her like a ton of bricks. That Cameron had run because Haleigh had left him for Alek. She sat down when she said it, in absolute shock at the prospect. She wouldn't...would she? Never in a million years would Ashley have thought it possible. She had said so to Alek just the day before. He could pine for her forever and she would never leave Cameron. But what if she had?

Savage: "But why would she do that, when she took such astounding risk to have children with him?"

She looked up at AJ, the logic of his words making her relax. Of course he was right.

"Yes, of course. That would make no sense."

Savage: "Why don't we just walk down the hall and ask her what this is all about?"

The corners of her mouth turned downward. Why didn't they, instead of speculating? Ashley slapped her hands on her thighs.

"Okay, good plan."

She got up from the chair, and turned to Amanda.

"Thanks for the info on Cameron. I'll let Ava know if we find anything out."

She headed for the door, opening it to find a Red Guardsman standing there.

"Escort the Black Knight out of the Wing."

Ashley took AJ's hand and wiggled her fingers at Amanda in a condescending wave goodbye before they started to walk back to her suite. Their suite. Her eyes narrowed towards the disappearing form of Amanda.

"She was eyeing you too much."

They arrived back at the suite and entered, closing the door behind them. Ashley then went to the door that separated her suite from Alek's, and unlocked the door from her side. Then she raised her fist, and with a look at AJ, knocked loudly.

The heated exchange between herself and the White Rook had simmered just enough for Zach to tell her that he was there now for her, not because he was ordered to be. That he liked her. No one liked Brienne. She was perpetually unlikeable to everyone. People tolerated her, or feared her, yes. But like? No. So when he said that, for a split second Brienne wanted to believe him for no other reason than it actually made her feel good for a singular second. But she pushed that back, defensively backing away from Zach and folding her arms across her chest to cover her exposed breasts. He was doing his job, and he was doing it damn good for Brienne to make her doubt herself. She asked him why, because as much as she didn't want to admit it, it hurt feeling that spark of hope but knowing there was no substance to it.

Zach: “Gods, woman, I just told you why.”

He was lying. This had to have been about his Queen and the fact that she used magick on her. How the hell was Brienne supposed to know that magick was so taboo; especially when Haleigh's sister in law and mother in law were both fucking witches. Brienne's prank was harmless, though her intentions were anything but. Regardless, she didn't hurt Haleigh, she only pushed her to do what Haleigh would have done anyway. How the hell was she supposed to know the bitch could get pregnant TWICE.

Zach: “This isn’t about them anymore, Brienne. This is about you and me.”

She shook her head.

"There is no you and me."

Zach took a step forward and Brienne tensed.

Zach: “You don’t believe me.”

He then grabbed her wrists, causing her to grip her hands into fists and her ring to immediately begin to glow; Brienne fully prepared to use her magick to defend herself. But then he put her hands on either side of his cheeks, her brows furrowing with confusion. His eyes shut and he began to share with her what he was feeling, her heart immediately aching from the intensity of his power and emotions. She gasped in involuntarily, her eyes filled with a mixture disbelief and relation. When Zach's eyes opened, she held his gaze, unsure of what to say or do.

Zach: “Do you believe me now?”

Her head slowly shook, her mouth parting to say something - anything - but she was so conflicted. Her hands recoiled from his face realizing she was still holding it. She couldn't let herself fall into this trap. She couldn't let herself do this again. Zach's hands slid up and down her arms, pulling all the pain and regret from her.

Zach: “I don’t want this to be about strategy anymore. I don’t want meaningless either.”

He was leaning in to kiss her, and for the first time in a very long time, Brienne felt scared.

"Don't..."

A word with no power behind it as his lips connected with hers slowly. This wasn't like how they had kissed before. It wasn't how Brienne kissed at all. There was more behind it, more feeling, more emotion. She was rigid in her stance as Zach's lips were gentle against hers, but finally, she slowly closed her eyes and let her body relax into the moment. Her hand went to his cheek, gently touching it as she parted her lips to taste him deeply. A part of her still felt like this was a trap that she was walking into, but another part of her didn't care. Kissing him like this, it was something she didn't realize she missed. But Brienne pulled back, breaking the kiss but keeping her eyes shut. Her breath was soft yet rapid as she still held Zach's face within her hands, finally lifting her eyes to meet with his.

"If you're manipulating me.....i'll kill you..."

Her voice was shaky and non threatening despite the severity of her words; a vulnerability obvious in her tone. It was then she kissed him once again with fervor, her arms wrapping around his neck as she hugged her body against him, pushing him toward the bed. Brienne had always been a risk taker...but fucking hell, this was straight suicide.

John had asked if she would ever get rid of him, Ava responding with never. She in turned asked if he would ever get sick enough to leave her, John mimicking her response and causing Ava to smile before he kissed her.

John: "I know every thing there is to know about you, Ava Cassadine. You can't do anything that would make me leave your side. You had me hooked the first time I ever saw you, standing there with your stubborn chin sticking out, holding that horrendous fake ID, and not giving a chuff about anyone in the place."

Ava laughed at that, the memory of their first meeting so vivid in her mind.

"That ID was flawless. I got it on the Black Market, thank you very much."

Aside from the fact that it said she was a 25 year old woman from Germany, maybe it wasn't the best guise when trying to sneak into a dive bar club at age 13. She wrinkled her nose playfully before kissing John's then suggesting that they watch the cup game. She knew how much he loved soccer and knew he would be itchy to watch a bit of it before they went to brunch. Ava turned so her back was against John, texting Amanda the status of their return as John shouted at the game on the tv.

Ava put her phone down on the couch, her hand arm holding John's that was wrapped around her waist.

"Who are you rooting for?"

John: "Well...We've got an Arsenal man on the Germany squad - Ozil, that's him - so as much as I normally would be against the Germans, I think in this case we've got to root for them."

She had no idea what the hell any of that meant, but she nodded anyway.

"Guys in white?"

He confirmed as much as Ava watched the game. But as the minutes went on, her mind wandered to the memory of her first meeting John. She stared forward, lost in thought. Lost in memory.

FLASH

Ava walked down the dark alley way toward the entrance of a famous London dive bar club dressed in a skimpy little black dress that made her look far older than thirteen years old. She was in the city with her father on business visiting the Hellfire London Branch, and per usual, she was surrounded by guards 24/7. It was so frustrating not to be able to go out and have fun like other pre teen girls. The only time she felt normal was when she was back home at Hellfire with Haleigh, Cameron, and Ben....at least they understood what it was like to be locked within the cellblock known as the Hellfire Club. But tonight, Ava ditched her guards, slipping out of the guest bedroom window and down the trellis. She had managed to get her hands on a fake ID that her father had gotten off the Black Market for a client, taking a cab into the city to some low end club that no Cassadine would dare step foot in.

Ava made her way to the entrance, a young boy maybe a couple years older than her standing at the door. There was no way he worked there, not at a place like this at his age. But sure enough he stepped in front of Ava with his arms crossed.

John: "Aren't you a little young to be here?"

Ava gave him an incredulous look, lifting her chin high in the air defiantly.

"Aren't you?"

That made the boy crack a smile, his stance becoming less stiff.

John: "ID?"

Ava took out her fake ID from her little black clutch and presented it to him, sighing out and rolling her eyes as she did so. Outwardly she looked confident and cocky, but inside her stomach was in a knot as he examined the ID, looking from it to her.

"Well, are you going to let me in or what?"

He gave Ava a look, his eyes kind despite his even expression. He finally handed her back her ID and stepped aside.

John: "Have fun Miss Carras."

Ava gave him an 'I told you so' look before walking past him while stuffing her ID back into her purse. Once inside, she stopped and exhaled with a smile. Looking around, the club was packed. There was a huge dance floor, a bar, and a DJ in the middle playing dance mixes of different hit songs. Ava had never been in a club before.

"Haleigh and Cameron will die when I tell them this..."

She said with a grin before going further into the club and getting lost in the music. For hours Ava just danced, hoping around to the music, laughing, spinning, and enjoying every bit of the moment. She didn't need to be with anyone to have fun. People instinctively flocked around her like a magnet, Ava making friends with anyone who struck up a conversation or asked her to dance. Throughout the night she would occasionally catch the young bouncer watching her from afar, wondering if he was going to be kicking her out at any moment. But he never did.

It was around 2am and the club was finally closed. Ava was one of the last people to leave. She didn't see the boy, assuming that he had already gone home for the night. Taking out her flip phone, she began to walk down the alley as she called for a cab to come pick her up. It was then she heard voices from behind her.

Man 1: "Hey baby doll."

Ava turned to look over her shoulder, seeing an older man with two others flanking him.

Man: "I saw you dancing in there. Got some pretty good moves..."

"Uhm..thanks.."

Ava turned back around and kept walking, her pace picking up.

Man 2: "What's a hot piece like you doing by yourself?"

Man 3: "These streets are dangerous for such an angel like yourself. Why don't you let us take you home....we got some party favors. Real good stuff."

They were taunting her, Ava was well aware of that. She just wanted to get out of the alley, for some reason the light on the main street seeming like a safe haven. Ava scoffed, looking back at them.

"Not in a million years, asshole."

Even though she was young, she had a fire within her that wouldn't let anyone talk to her that way, even if she was in a precarious situation. Ava turned back around, almost to the light. She could see the cab pulling up to where it had dropped her off, a smile forming on her lips. That was until she was grabbed and slammed against the brick wall of the building causing her to scream.

"Let GO of me!"

Ava began to struggle as they pushed her against the wall.

Man 2: "She's got some spunk!"

Man 3: "Yeah well I got something for her..."

Man 1: *laughing* "Calm down asshole, we need her conscious so she can enjoy it too."

They all began to laugh, Ava shutting her eyes as she tried with all of her might to pull herself free of their grasp. Then she heard one of the men scream. Immediately she was let go and Ava opened her eyes to see a flash of silver tearing one of the man's limbs off while the other began to run down the alley way. The other man pulled out a gun and shot at the silver looking man who had saved her, the bullets bouncing off of it with no damage. The silver man grabbed the man's hand, broke it, and pointed the gun back at him shooting him in the head, before aiming the gun down the alley way and shooting the other fleeing man until he dropped dead on the pavement. At this point Ava was breathless watching in shock. She had seen people be killed before in far more brutal ways, that wasn't what was shocking. It was this silver person who had come out of nowhere and saved her.

John: "Are you okay?"

His voice sounded familiar....and then, the silver pigment from his body melted away to reveal the boy from the club. Ava's eyes widened, her mouth agape as he took a step forward toward her. He wiped the gun of his prints with his shirt, obviously very aware of what he was doing and how to keep from being caught. He then tossed the gun into the dumpster near by, his eyes never leaving Ava.

"Yeah...yeah, i'm fine..."

After the initial shock wore off, Ava moved away from the wall as John picked up her clutch and flip phone, handing them to her.

"You're a mutant..."

He looked a little nervous at that, stuffing his hands into his pocket.

"I am too.."

That make his eyes lift to her with surprise. Ava looked toward the club door down at the other end of the alley way, confused as to why someone with his abilities would be working in a dump. Why he wasn't doing extraordinary things. She looked back at him, their eyes meeting. She could see that he was gentle and kind. That he didn't belong as a bouncer at some garbage club.

"Why are you working in a place like this?"

The boy shrugged.

John: "They pay good because they know what I am."

It made sense. But still, Ava couldn't help but feel like he deserved more than this. Especially after what he just did for her.

John: "Why are you at a place like this?"

He was throwing back at her what she had done to him at the door. Ava bit her bottom lip and looked down, knowing the ruse was over.

"My father doesn't let me do anything...his guards are constantly around me...I just wanted to have some fun..."

He gave her a cocky look, as if he was saying he was right in his assumptions earlier.

John: "Twenty five huh?"

Ava smiled at that, liking that he was calling her on her shit. Most people didn't, they were too scared of her father. It was then John extended his hand out to her.

John: "John Steele."

Her eyes stayed locked with his, knowing in that moment that there was no way in hell she was going to walk away from this boy after what he did for her. Ava reached out her hand, taking his and holding it tight.

"Ava Cassadine."

FLASH

Ava looked down at her hand within John's, her thumb gently rubbing along his skin as she smiled softly at the memory. One stupid pre teen decision lead her to the boy that quite literally changed her life. She brought his hand around to her chest, tucking it against her body like a blanket. She remembered bringing John back to her father that night, who was pacing in the great hall of the European Hellfire Club, screaming in Greek at his guards. She explained to Stavros what had happened and how John had helped her. She knew she would be punished for her careless and un-Cassadine like actions, but she also knew that if her father was made aware of the fact that John rescued his daughter? He would give him a job instantaneously. Her assumptions were correct. John was taken in by her father, given proper schooling, trained to fight and use weapons, given board and food. He had taken John under his wing until he was old enough to become a proper guard, then hired him paying him double that of any other guard. John's life had changed as well that day, leading him to becoming Rook, and now King.

She heard John groan, realizing that she had been lost in thought for a good five minutes of the game. Looking at the screen, she saw that Mexico had scored.

"They have time to come back, babe."

The game went to commercial, Ava taking the opportunity to turn onto her back and look at John.

"You know...we never talked about that night after it happened. After you helped me."

Ava looked at him inquisitively.

"I still can't believe I was stupid enough to do that at thirteen."

She scoffed out a little laugh.

"No wonder my father had guards on me 24 hours a day."

She rolled her eyes in jest. Hell, if she had a daughter who acted the way Ava did, she'd likely do the same damn thing. But something occurred to Ava in that moment, her eyes lifting to John's.

"I never thanked you..."

The Black King & Queen's Suite

The conversation turned to happier days, when they were just teenagers meeting for the first time. He hadn't been very happy in his life, up to that point, but everything had changed when he had met Ava. But he still found the memory of her and her fake ID humorous.

Ava: "That ID was flawless. I got it on the Black Market, thank you very much."

"Of course you did. Just waltzed down to the Ye Olde Black Market and picked it up, did you?"

He grinned, knowing that she had swiped it and it had been meant for someone else. SHe had been full of fire, even then. And he had loved her pretty much from the first time he'd seen her.

Ava knew how to redirect him, though, suggesting soccer and handing him the remote. She asked who he was rooting for, and he excitedly went into the specifics of choosing by country or players.

Ava: "Guys in white?"

He sighed.

"Guys in white."

Maybe some day.

"You'd think a Greek girl would know more about this."

But he didn't really mind at all, and if he got to have her in his lap with his arm around her? He didn't care if she thought they were watching baseball.

"Oh fuck shite arse!"

He groaned, the Mexican goal looking no better in the replay than it had the first time.

Ava: "They have time to come back, babe."

He smiled at her.

"Thanks."

Soon the match went to half time, and he relaxed as she turned to face him.

Ava: "You know...we never talked about that night after it happened. After you helped me."

He shrugged. It wasn't the best memory the two of them had. Not that part of it, anyway.

Ava: "I still can't believe I was stupid enough to do that at thirteen."

"Oh you were bloody well stupid enough to do that last month. Don't pretend like you've settled down in your 'old age'."

He laughed.

"But of course, you don't need me to tear guys arms off for you anymore."

His face fell a bit at the remembering.

"I can't believe you weren't afraid of me. Or that you didn't run away."

Ava: "No wonder my father had guards on me 24 hours a day."

"Fat lot of good it did."

The grin was back, teasing her again. Ava could give a guard the slip in under 30 seconds flat.

Ava: "I never thanked you..."

"Oh..."

He hemmed a little bit. And then he found her hand and squeezed it.

"I didn't do it for your thanks. I did it because it was you."

He smiled.

"And you might not have said the words, but you thanked me with your actions a thousandfold."

Where would he have been now if she hadn't taken him home with her that night? In prison, probably. Or working for some sleazebag as a standover man for a pittance. But once he had come to Hellfire? He'd never had to worry where his next meal would come from, or where he would sleep ever again. And he'd liked the work, and learning things from Stavros. And, of course, being near Ava. Protecting her. She never gave him the slip like she did the guards.

"You changed my life."

Hellfire -- The Red King’s Suite

Alek: Cameron didn't mind sharing you, though will not share his son.

"Yeah... well. His son is his 'legacy'. I'm just his wife. Maybe he doesn't even want me for that anymore."

She said sadly, and then she took a deep breath and sighed.

"I just can't believe he'd make such a big deal out of being the only one allowed to protect his son, and then just leave him.... unprotected."

She added, and Alek touched her arm gently, reminding her that her son wasn't unprotected. She gave him a small smile. Yes, at least that much was true. They talked about finding Cameron, and forming a plan, so they weren't sitting ducks. Haleigh mentioned informing the Inner Circle.

Alek was sure they'd rally around her, though Haleigh had her doubts. Ava had left, taking John with her, and Haleigh suspected the Black Court would fall in line with their King and Queen. And Cameron had been so adamant about talking to Ava in private last night, even going so far as to scramble the cameras. Now Ava was texting Amanda again, saying she’d attend brunch, but the shifting plans were suspicious. Had Cameron formulated a plan already? Was Ava attending Brunch to back his play?

And Ashley.... she had every reason to refuse to help them. The whole situation between her, AJ and Alek stood in the way, and Alek having a daughter meant she would be forced to accept a Princess she likely didn't want.

Alek spoke of the White Court, discussing each member separately, trying to determine who'd land where. He was right about Zach, certainly. Zach was loyal to her without question. Heidi was less predictable, although Haleigh had a good relationship with her Knight, the girl clearly had a crush on her King. Erika would probably eventually side with Cameron if she had to choose, considering Haleigh was pretty sure Erika despised her. And Gia...

"Gia might come around... If I can get her to realize her leftover loyalty to my mother is misplaced."

Alek: You can't stay in the White Wing until this is resolved.

"It's fucking ridiculous to not be safe in my own home."

She griped, and then he asked her if sh was sure she didn't want to go away for a while, and hide out until this matter was settled. She pursed her lips, her jaw clenched as she shook her head.

"I don't hide."

She replied with conviction. She knew he might feel better if she were somewhere safer, but she couldn't bring herself to agree to it. She wasn't going to run away from this. It wasn't just about being Queen. Her own personal default was fight, not flight.

They discussed Archer, and thankfully, Alek wasn't any happier about what had happened with Ava than the rest of them were. He told her that if Archer made a scene, Alek would make sure everybody knew what he did. Haleigh nodded.

"I've got a video of it, though it's not very good, those cameras in the barn at Arklay haven't been updated in twenty years. There's no audio, and the angle is shitty... but it's clear he cornered her. She did what she had to in her own defense. Amanda called it 'alcohol poisoning' to try and smooth things over.... but if Archer wants to blow it up... we might have to deal with it further."

She said, and then they moved on to Brienne. Confronting her, finding out what spell she cast, maybe pressuring her to make amends. Haleigh smiled again, and moved in closer, her hands on his chest, as she told him they made a formidable team. Alek told her she could be 'bad cop', and she laughed. Then she admitted it was nice to be able to count on him having her back. She said she didn't know what she'd do without him.

Alek: Kick ass, probably.

"Mmm, yeah. But I'd be miserable all the while."

She said, then she kissed him, and he wrapped her up in his arms again, and suddenly things didn't seem so bad. Alek promised he'd always have her back, no matter what, and they kissed again, more deeply this time. Haleigh considered being late for brunch, and just slipping off her robe and going back to bed, but someone knocked at the front door.

Red Guard: White Queen, I have your clothes.

"Let's just ignore them, they'll go away eventually...."

She said, kissing his chest, and the scar there, but then a knock came at the other door, the one that connected the King and Queen Suites. Haleigh looked up at Alek with a raised eyebrow.

"Does your Queen make a habit of visiting in the morning?"

She asked dryly. She slipped out of his arms to go to the front door and get her clothes, letting him answer Ashley.

John had mentioned the first time he had met Ava, at a door of a dingy club, with a fake ID that was ten years too old for Ava to even try and pass off. He said it was terrible, Ava begged to differ.

John: "Of course you did. Just waltzed down to the Ye Olde Black Market and picked it up, did you?"

"I don't waltz. I walk with a purpose."

She countered with a cocky expression before finally smiling. John began to watch the game but Ava's mind was on that night and how she met John. It hadn't been the first time she slipped her father's guard detail, but it was the first time Ava put herself in a dangerous situation because of it. Despite that, it was a fond memory; she met John because of it. The game went to half time and Ava turned to him saying they hadn't really spoken about that night, and how she couldn't believe she was stupid enough to do something like that at thirteen.

John: "Oh you were bloody well stupid enough to do that last month. Don't pretend like you've settled down in your 'old age'."

Ava cough out in disbelief, her mouth open a bit yet the hint of a smile there as John laughed.

"Excuse me! I'm far more level headed now....for the most part.."

Eh, maybe he was right. But she wouldn't give him the satisfaction of admitting it.

John: "But of course, you don't need me to tear guys arms off for you anymore. I can't believe you weren't afraid of me. Or that you didn't run away."

Ava saw John's face fall as he said that, Ava's brow creasing sadly.

"Why would I? It was you."

From the moment she laid eyes on John, she could see beyond the cold exterior was a man who would protect her. Ava brushed the back of her fingers along his shoulder and down his bicep.

"Even then I knew you wouldn't hurt me, despite everyone else being afraid of you, I knew you would only ever protect me. That's why I brought you home...I could see it in your eyes."

Her fingers now brushed along his temple and down his cheek as she looked at him at him with a soft smile. There was never any doubt in Ava's mind that John would hurt her. Ava then groaned at the thought, realizing that there was a reason why her father had guards on her 24/7.

John: "Fat lot of good it did."

Ava grinned at that. She was problematic as a teenager, wanting to rebel and have fun because everything was so strict and stuffy within Hellfire and because of her father's expectations. That night was the start of many more as she grew up.

"What can I say, I became really good at it. It didn't help that I had guard who was soft on me..."

She teased with a little laugh. John would disobey orders and help Ava sneak out, though she suspected it was because he got to go with her and have a little fun outside of his training and schooling that Stavros made him do. It was then Ava realized that she hadn't thanked John for that night. He could have left the cocky little rich brat to get out of the situation she put herself in, but he didn't. He was there, like he was there for her today.

John: "Oh...I didn't do it for your thanks. I did it because it was you. And you might not have said the words, but you thanked me with your actions a thousandfold."

She shook her head.

"I wasn't about to leave you there. Even then I knew you were special."

And Ava couldn't deny the connection she had with him, even then.

John: "You changed my life."

"You saved mine."

In more ways than just those men. Throughout her father's tyranny, after Diana had merged her with Persephone, and every other heartbreak and misstep up until adulthood. She had her family with Haleigh, Cameron, and Ben....but John had her heart and trust from the moment he helped her in that alley. Ava gently pressed her lips against John's, kissing him softly.

"I love you."

She whispered against his lips.

"I always have."

And she always would. The game began to play once again in the background, the crowd's loud cheering filling the living room. But Ava paid no attention to it, her back to the tv, wrapped in John's arms, making out with him like the rest of the world didn't exist.

Hellfire - The Black Wing

Brienne didn’t believe Zach when he told her he wanted her, without the Hellfire games attached. She asked him if he was doing this because she’d used magic on his Queen, and then insisted she hadn’t hurt Haleigh. Zach wasn’t concerned about that, since it was clear she was telling the truth, so he assured her it wasn’t about Haleigh and Cameron.

Brienne: There is no you and me.

Zach sighed, and reached for her wrists. He pulled gently, and though she resisted he continued, albeit slowly. He put her hands on him, and opened up a bit, while his own hands ran down her arms and around to her back, and he took on her pain to ease the burden. He asked her if she believed him now, since he knew she could feel it now, but still she shook her head, refusing to accept what he was trying to prove.

He told her he didn’t want it to be about strategy, and that he didn’t want it to be meaningless either. Erika had enough emotion to set him on fire, but it turned out she’d just wanted to use him as a tool for her own machinations. All he wanted was to be something authentic, something untainted by Hellfire, and that was why he’d been so honest with Brienne this morning, even though it would have been way easier just to please her and keep playing.

He sensed fear in her now, but he knew she wasn’t afraid of him, rather, she was afraid of surrendering, and being vulnerable. Zach was willing to take the risk, so he leaned in to kiss her. She told him not to, but there was no conviction in it, and though she was tense as first she soon relaxed. Then she started to kiss him back, and he breathed it in. It felt good, having no motives, except to hold her, kiss her, connect with her on a basic level. Brienne threatened to kill him if he was manipulating her, though she kissed him again, tempering the threat with passion.

“I will never...”

He whispered against her lips, as he backed up in the direction she was pushing him. His arms were still around her, pulling her against him as he went. Her skin pressing on his increased his desire tenfold. He felt the bed at the backs of his thighs, and sat on the edge, his lips moving down her neckline. His hands slid from the small of her back to her hips, stopping at her panties. He looked up at her questioningly, and when he saw that there was no more hesitation on her part, he slid the lace down her thighs, letting them drop to the floor.

He pulled her into his lap, bringing her mouth near his again, though he didn’t rush to kiss her yet. He locked eyes with her as he reached to brush her hair back with his fingers, smiling gently, and then he brought his lips to hers. He couldn’t have said how long he kissed her. It felt like a long time, and yet he wanted it to go on even longer. He shifted to lay her on the bed, and stripped off his pants, then laid down beside her. His body ached for her, but he made himself go slow, his hand sliding up her thigh and guiding it up onto his hip. Through his touch he shared his need, an emotion more desperate than lust, a passion stronger than before.

“Brienne....”

The Red King's Suite

Alek pointed out that Cameron wouldn't let anyone even help with his son, yet he didn't apparently feel that way about his wife.

Haleigh: "Yeah... well. His son is his 'legacy'. I'm just his wife. Maybe he doesn't even want me for that anymore."

"Then he's an idiot."

He could see this was difficult for her, and it pained him a bit that she was so attached to a man who treated her this way. Alek reminded her that her children were not unprotected, wherever Cameron was. He did, however, say in no uncertain terms that she could not stay in the White Wing for a while.

Haleigh: "It's fucking ridiculous to not be safe in my own home."

"I know. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't be careful."

He suggested again that she find a safe place and hole up until the babies were born, but he knew what her answer would be before she said it.

Haleigh: "I don't hide."

He was proud of her for it, but also wanted to hit her over the head with something heavy and whisk her off somewhere that she would be safe. They discussed a plan for Archer, and then Brienne. And then, things were looking up. Lots of things. She kissed him, and it still felt like an unbelievable thing was happening. He kissed her, wrapping her safely in his arms where he hoped she'd stay. And then there was a knock at the door. Hadn't he told the guards no interruptions? Er, maybe he had forgotten that part. Fuck.

Haleigh: "Let's just ignore them, they'll go away eventually...."

"God, I love you."

She was kissing his chest, and he was slipping his hands underneath her robe...when there was a furious knocking at the door that led into Ashley's room.

Haleigh: "Does your Queen make a habit of visiting in the morning?"

Alek gave her a look.

"Ashley's not usually awake in the morning. And if she was, she wouldn't be visiting me. Nor would she knock."

He reached after her as she moved out of his grasp to go get her clothes. He watched her for a moment with a sigh, then turned towards the door. Ashley was probably pissed off about something stupid like he'd looked at her wrong the night before, and he really did not feel like dealing with that. But he needed to get rid of her, or she would just keep pounding on the door like she was going to break it down. He turned the key in the lock and opened the door wide. She was wearing that tiny robe of hers again, that left so little to the imagination that she might as well not have worn it at all. He leaned against the doorframe, crossing his arms over his abs.

"It's not a good time Ash."

The Red King's Suite

Ashley breezed right by Alek and into the room.

Berserker: "It's not a good time Ash."

She ignored that. But she couldn't ignore the fact that he was stark naked. A look of disgust washed over her face.

"Ugh...put some clothes on will you."

But then she was off and running.

"So, I get woken up this morning by Amanda telling me that the Red Wing has become East Berlin, Cameron's missing, and you have a house guest. So would anyone care to tell me what the fuck's going on?!"

She turned to see an emerging Haleigh coming in their direction.

"Why is Cameron hiding? Why is the Red Wing locked down?"

Her voice got louder and more agitated as she went on.

"And why the hell didn't anyone tell me or the Red Knight about any of it?!"

Hellfire -- The Red Lounge

Ash: That's right. I had forgotten. I thought he was going to yell because I didn't tell Alek something.

"If he HAD started yelling at you I'd have put my fist down his throat. I don't care whose King he is, he has no right to reprimand my Ashley."

Savage said with a darkened brow. His Queen thought Haleigh had maybe left Cameron, a suggestion that befuddled AJ, and he wondered aloud why Haleigh would have left him after taking such risks to bear him children. But all of this speculation just seemed to lead to more questions, and more complexities, and AJ got frustrated easily and suggested they just go ask Haleigh what happened. His Queen called that a good plan, which made him smile proudly, and then she dismissed Amanda. She slipped her hand into his and led him back to her room.

Ash: She was eyeing you too much.

"Was she? I barely paid her any attention."

He replied as he trailed along after her to the door that led to Alek's suite. She opened her side and knocked on Alek's until it opened to reveal the 'King', who was completely naked. His Queen told Alek to put some clothes on, which AJ appreciated, not because he cared if Alek was dressed or not, but rather because her tone indicated disgust. Ashley unloaded, calling the Red Wing 'East Berlin', which made AJ grin because he got that reference. Haleigh came around the corner just in time for Ashley's voice to reach peak agitation. AJ kept Alek in his peripheral vision just to make sure he didn't try anything funny.

Better a wise foe than a foolish friend. Word Brienne lived by since she was a little girl, after having been too naive to understand when she was being taken advantage of and suffering the consequences of it. She kept everyone at a distance except for her grandmother. It was a survival tactic. A means of making sure she stayed in power. She didn't have friends, she didn't have lovers - hell, she barely had acquaintances outside of the Inner Circle. It worked for her...until it didn't. Zach was standing there, quite literally pouring his emotional needs into her, asking her to open up. She couldn't fathom why....why he chose her? Why he was even remotely interested in her outside of sex. But there he was, kissing her, in a way that two lovers kissed. Brienne broke it, looking at him with an guarded uncertainty. She told him if he was manipulating her she would kill him, but her words were hardly threatening because deep down, she hoped he was being truthful.

Brienne connected their lips together once more, wrapping her arms around his neck and pressing her body against him as she lead him back towards the bed.

Zach: “I will never...”

He whispered to her, his words like a poisonous fruit she so desperately wanted to try. They reached the bed, Zach sitting down and breaking their kiss, his lips traveling down her neck while his hands slid gently around her back and down to her hips. Brienne's heart was pounding in her chest, her mind clouded with pleasure, need, and fear. What are you doing....Kept repeating in her head. Pull back...stop this....Brienne's eyes were shut, her neck extended to his touch. Then he pulled back and looked up at her, his hands by her panties, and the undeniable question of whether he could go farther in his eyes. Brienne looked down at him, the hardened, aloof, bitch Queen nowhere to be seen. It was just her, standing vulnerable in front of this man who could read her like an open book, wanting him just as badly as he seemed to want her.

That was enough for Zach, his hands gentle as he pushed the thin fabric of her lace panties off before pulling her onto the bed. He stripped his pants off, climbing into bed next to her. She knew he could feel everything she was feeling: fear, doubt, and a need stronger than she had felt in a very long time. She couldn't hide from him like she hid from so many others. She was slightly breathless as she looked into his eyes, feeling his hand travel up the ouside of her thigh slowly. She could feel him pushing his need into her; the passion he felt for her. It was intoxicating, making Brienne's eyes shut and inhale sharply. He guided her leg over his hip, Brienne finally opening her eyes as the dizziness of his emotions were tempered just a bit.

Zach: "Brienne...."

Brienne put her fingers against his lips, stopping him.

"Brie..."

She rolled her weigh on top of his, pushing Zach's back against the bed so she were straddling him; his hardness pressing against her inner thigh. Looking down at him, her sandy blond hair curtained around the side of her face, she let her fingers trail down his lips, to his chin, and down his neck slowly; her eyes watching the path she created before lifting to meet with his.

"Call me Brie."

Her lips met with his, tasting him immediately as she lifted her hips and took him within her fully, the feeling like a thousand electrical pulses flooding her body all at once. Brienne moaned, breaking the kiss and resting her forehead against Zach's. She didn't move at first, their bodies intimately connected. But now, it was time for her to share with Zach how he was making her feel. Brienne linked them together, her hands holding his face, her lips brushing against his softly. She began to roll her hips, gasping in pleasurable breaths with each motion. This wasn't how she fucked normally. She was very loud and commanding and devious in her methods of getting pleasure. She made sure she was in charge in every aspect, even when she let the man take control. But this...this wasn't just fucking. This was something more. Something Brienne didn't realize she craved - that she missed. Her movements became more urgent but no less sensual; her lips and tongue trailing a path along Zach's neck.

"You feel that....i'm so close..."

Her words breathless as their bodies remained connected physically and magickally. Zach had pealed off a layer of the Black Queen, and she wasn't sure what would happened after the fact. But right now, she was in the moment, and the moment felt amazing.

Hellfire -- The Red King's Suite

Alek: Ashley's not usually awake in the morning. And if she was, she wouldn't be visiting me. Nor would she knock.

"Yeah, she's more of a kick-the-door-down kind of girl. I think that's why we get along so well."

She said with a smile that dampened a bit when Haleigh realized how likely it was that Ash would not get along so well with her now that Haleigh was carrying Alek's child, the future Red Princess. She drifted from Alek's arms to go answer the front door, leaving Alek to open the door for Ash.

The guard handed her a garment bag, and she unzipped it so she could check the contents, then thanked him before shutting the door again. She could hear Ash around the corner, saying that Amanda had told her a whole bunch of shit, though clearly the Black Knight hadn't known everything, just enough to know she ought to be giving the other Queen a heads up. Haleigh walked into the bedroom and set the garment bag down on Alek's bed.

Ash: Why is Cameron hiding? Why is the Red Wing locked down? And why the hell didn't anyone tell me or the Red Knight about any of it?!

"Well, at what point during your pizza, beer and sex last night would you have liked us to interrupt?"

Haleigh asked, knowing already that Ash hated being interrupted while she was in the middle of anything she considered sacred, like pizza, beer, or sex. Those three were like the trifecta of perfection for Ashley, she would have called it a cardinal sin to ruin her night. Haleigh was glad Amanda was the one who'd tipped Ash off, although she hoped Ash hadn't ripped her a new one for being the messenger.

"Cameron's not missing, he’s gone rogue. There’s a high probability he will attack the Red King, and he may also be coming after me. That’s why Alek tightened security.”

Haleigh started, leaning against the footboard of the bed.

“As for the cause of that.... The White King has evidently begun harboring a significant amount of resentment towards the Red King. It probably didn’t help matters when it turned out I was carrying twins, and both were not his.”

"No Passion?"

And then came the passion as all the knives in the bar flew from their place settings and aimed themselves directly at Cameron, though The White King showed no concern. He was getting used to the feeling of knives being pointed at him. His cobalt blue eyes met hers as they locked in a stare.

Elena: "Is this what you want? A scene? For me to cry, sream, attack?"

"I want you to talk to me like you know who I am."

She slammed her fists down on the bar counter as the knives edged in closer to him. He felt the surge of goosebumps forming on his skin as they tempted him with the sweet release of death. He pursed his lips.

Elena: "I did all of those things, seven years ago, Cameron. You don't have that power over me, not any more."

The knives dropped. Her display was a good sign. Apathy was the true mark of moving on, of closing the door on somebody. What they had between them, it was still there. And though it wasn't fair to her, there was a part of Cameron that was deeply relieved to know it. He had really loved her, but he hadn't loved her more than Haleigh. More than he loved power. But his wife was pregnant with another man's baby. Nothing really made sense to him anymore.

"I couldn't have found you if you didn't want me to...on some level. So here I am. I found you. So let's deal with it."

Elena: "I didn't ask you to come.."

"I never said you did, Elena..But come on."

Elena: "You're seven years too late."

"It's never too late."

He wanted to touch her. To maybe console her. His mind replayed the night she left, the pain he felt and later removed from his own body, allowing himself to only process in private, away from the eyes of his wife. He had been the one to leave her, and he still felt unresolved about things, and her display just now proved to him, that she did too. If he couldn't be in her life, if there was nothing else he could give her, he could at least let her explode on him. Say whatever she hadn't. Do to him what she wished she could do to him. Anything.

"Let it out. We'll see if I can take it."

Elena: "I'm not here to make you feel better, Cameron. You may play some sick game with your wife and this thing you call a marriage. But don't you dare come here and expect cartharsis. You let me to deal with my pain all on my own."

"We both know there is no feeling better for me. I live among the flames of Hell. There is no such thing as carthasis...not for me."

She clutched the bar, her nails digging into the wood. It was painful for him to see, and he could feel the tickle of her power going through his mind, no doubt picking up on the intimate details of his relationship with Haleigh. He did not stop her, if this was what she wanted to see, then she would see it.

"And I didn't leave you alone. I looked for you. For a LONG time. You hid from me. Hid from me until you found a way to make it impossible for me to track you."

Elena: "Without even a reason. Without the slightest bit of courtesy to tell me why on the night we were announcing our engagement to the world you decided to dump me for the girl next door. No, you were happy with your little blonde toy and didn't care about anyone but yourself and what YOU WANTED. You SELFISH CHILD. And now you find out maybe she wasn't everything you thought she was? She's not giving you enough attention, so you thought you'd come find me and make sure I hadn't forgottten you? That I was still hurting, so you can feel like you MATTER?"

He accent became thicker the more that she spoke, and her words dug into him as painfully as he anticipated the calvalcade of knives would have felt like.

Elena: "Well, congratulations Cameron King.."

The lights SHATTERED in the bar all around her, a release of psychic energy. Better the light bulbs than him.

"I never forgot."

They stood staring at each other, Cameron fighting his nature to take her into his arms and to hold her, to feel what her skin felt like, tasted like. The White King was a prideful man. The mistakes he had made in his life were few and far between, if any. And the ones he had made had been long buried in the catacombs of the mansion never to be spoken of again. Growing up the way he did, he didn't hear he was wrong very often. Though his mother was a strict disciplinarian, she had coddled him, helped make him feel as golden as he felt. But this wasn't something he could smother, or at the very least, didn't want to. It was somewhat...exhilirating to be faced with such...guilt..and blame. For a few moments, all that could be heard were the birds chirping around the agave fields in the distance as Cameron wiped a bit of sweat from his forehead with his pocket square.

"I didn't forget, either. Everytime I read the paper, I look for your call sign. I look for the sparrow. Every time I see a bottle of Estrada, I think of you..."

He spoke softly, far more vulnerable and less cocky than before.

"I haven't come here to feel better about myself. You know me. Despite how you feel, you know I don't need anybody to make me feel good about me. I've never had that problem. If anything, I'm a glutton for punishment. So I'm sure that's part of it. I'm sure there is a part of me that said 'Hey you're wife is pregnant with another man's baby, so why don't you seek out the woman you almost married just to really dig in the feeling of what a failure you are'. And I'm wrong for that..Elena, I know that I am."

[thinking]

"You ran, and it gave me a free pass to not have to ever face you. Maybe I should have tried harder, maybe I should never have stopped, but come on, Elle. I broke up with you in the worst way possible...stalking you would have just added insult to injury. I didn't want that. I never.."

[shaking his head]

"I never wanted to hurt you, but I also didn't care that I did. Because you're right. I am a SELFISH child. I always have been. From the moment I was born, I never saw anything other than a crown and a throne, and I knew that both belonged to me. And I've done some very morally depraved things to get it, that much is true. And all of those things? I can deal with. I can rest my head down on my pillow at night and be okay with, because they got me where I am. Because I have a vision of the world that is much different than the one we live in now..and I feel it..deep in my bones, in my soul, that I am the one who can bring it into fruition. So I persist..."

Waving his hands, Cameron returned the knives to their spots and used his telekinesis to reconstruct the light bulbs, watching them flicker with a brightness.

"Haleigh wasn't over night. And you knew that. You are a telepath, Elena. And a damn good one. So good that if I didn't love you, I might try to kill you to snuff out my competition. There was no way you didn't know how I felt about her, and while that absolves me of nothing, it doesn't change the fact that I carried a torch for her, and she carried one for me, and you knew all of this, and you still held my hand and were willing to jump into the fire..."

He mindlessly fiddled with his finger, where his wedding ring had been several hours earlier as he shot her another look.

"You were the reason she told me she loved me. She saw...that I was going to choose you. That I was going to marry you..and it made her realize that she could no longer deny how she felt. I didn't know what to do. All I knew was that I did love her. She had never been so honest with me. I had never seen her...emotional about anything. I knew that if I didn't act...I might lose the chance to be with a woman I had dreamed of my entire life. So I acted. It was brash. It was unnacceptable to you and everything that you gave me..and did for me. It was horrible, and if I could go back? I don't know that I would have made a different decision, but I would have handled it differently....because you DID deserve more than that."

Cameron felt very vulnerable in that moment as he looked at her, unsure as to how she would take things. At the very least, it all felt good to say.

"My marital problems are just that. My marital problems..and I shouldn't even have mentioned anything. I'm sorry, it's just...seeing you here, after all this time. It just made me..I don't know like I needed to say something that let you know I wasn't as happy as you maybe might have imagined over the years?"

He shooked his head again, rising from the bar stool.

"You're right. You didn't ask me to come here, and I probably shouldn't have. I was just...following a feeling. And I guess it was the wrong one. I'm really sorry to have disturbed your life..and I promise..It won't happen again."

He wanted to leave but his body still felt so compelled...so charged towards her. Still. After all this time. Maybe he didn't really want to leave.

"A lo hecho, pecho."

Last night had been a bloody mess. Outside of his interaction with Erika, the entire evening seemed to be everybody spitting in the face of the black court as they saw fit. And what was worse than everybody doing their best to steal the spotlight from the black court, was that nobody seemed as concerned with the marriage of Kelly and Stavros as they should be. Ben, Amanda and Ava were uniquely qualified to see this threat for what it was, and so, it had been a working night for them. The Black Knight had looped them in on the formation of Tricell and what that meant for them, and as the new Rook, Ben had been tasked with enforcing their power. As Daniel looked after Archer and Amanda went to inform the Red Queen of the curious goings on between the red and white courts, Ben went to work, fortifying the defenses of all black court holdings, specifically Cassadine strong holds that Ava owned outright. He had spent much of the night in different ports, meeting with security teams and doing sweeps and interrogations, looking for any cracks that Stavros might be looking at in the days to come. There was no way in hell that Stavros would not make a move against Ava, and when he did, he wanted to make sure he had done everything in his power to protect his Queen and King and to show The Black Queen's father that whatever power he once held was not stronger than his daughter and her allies.

Boarding a helicopter from Paris, Benjamin touched down on the roof of the Hellfire Mansion at the break of dawn, exhausted but satisfied with his work. Returning to his suite, he laid down on his bed for a few precious moments, before shooting up like a cannon upon remembering that he had a date with Cassandra in The Black Parlour. He grimaced a bit. She had been so happy the night before. She had made the right decision, but he had come to realize that Cassandra was just incapable of letting go of the past. No matter where she was, what she did, she would never fully move on from the things that had happened to her, and though much of his compassion had been bred out of him at the hands of Kelly King Cassadine (he would never get used to saying that), it would be rude to leave her in the lurch.

Throwing himself into the shower for a quick moment, he changed into a black muscle tee and black denim before he made his way to The Black Parlous where Cassandra was already waiting for him. He smiled at her before nodding to the bartender, who had become well aware that Ben often enjoyed a bit of whiskey with his coffee after a long night in the field. He walked over to Cassandra and gave a warm hello.

"Good morning, Red Princess. Are you excited for brunch? Should be pretty interesting with all the shit that decided to go down last night."
