At first I thought it was a rumour but as of January 29, 2008 It was reported by Variety Magazine that MICHAEL BAY (transformers) will be "rebooting" the Nightmare on Elm Street series....

what IDIOT greenlighted THIS idea? I would be open minded about a remake but NOT handled by the same guy who did Transformers!?
 
I didn't believe it was true when you told me this - ugh! What a bad idea. You don't have someone who makes big shoot em up action flicks (and often makes them suck) to remake a cult classic.

Well, I liked The Island, and there weren't too many big explosions in that, except for the very end. It can be done well if he exercises restraint!

Besides, according to IMDB he's just a producer. How bad could it possibly be if he's not directing?
 
I think that as long as they are faithful to the idea of it, the ability to mak eit even more realistic and gory will make it better. Bay is one HELL of a producer...
 
I don't think its that terrible of an idea. At least you can be sure there won't be a dull moment with Michael Bay lol. But I'm still bias for the original version so it'll be interesting to see what develops.

Robert Englund has reportedly confirmed Billy Bob Thorton to play the role of Freddy.

on the positive side:

There are "talks" about Heather Langenkamp ("Nancy Thompson" from the 1rst, 3rd and 7th film of the original franchise) reprising her role. She was the FIRST person to defeat Freddy and has come to be regarded as his ultimate nemesis.
 
I loved Transformers. *shrug* But it will be interesting to see how Michael Bay does in horror...

And dude, Billy Bob Thorton as Freddy? lol. I think they should go with a noname actor to play Freddy. I think putting someone who we all know would take away from the creepy mystique that Freddy Kruger has.

That's the gayest thing ever (and no comments from you Farrah. :D ). Those are both poor choices and I probably won't bother seeing this. I thought that Robert would be returning. That'll seriously ruin it for me, wow. Poor casting there! I know BBT has that creepy factor but ewww LOL.
