The 2011 Academy Awards are on tonight, is anyone else going to be watch? I watch every year just because i'm obsessed like that, but I know a lot of people find them boring.

I'm more excited to see Florence from Florence and the Machine performing one of the nominated songs. :D I just adore that woman lol. And also the fashion. I always watch the red carpet arrivals because I LOVE seeing what everyone's wearing.

I enjoy the red carpet pre show (though not so much w/out joan & melissa rivers :( ) more than i do the actual show in recent years. i too am a fan of florence & the machine and i was curious to see what steps the creative minds behind the event were taking to make it more appealing to "the new generation".

the fashion alone can draw you in or completely turn you off lol!

alot of the films that made the cut this year arent really ones i was interested in but i also like to catch the "in memoriam" section. they really screwed up with their oversight on Farrah Fawcett last year << thumbs down>> and she was ON the academy voting board!

The fashion was meh this year. Not a lot of stand out dresses like they usually have in past years. Nude dresses are in this year and there were SO many of them on the carpet which is why I think it made the carpet so dull. Don't get me wrong, there were beautiful nude dresses and I love them if worn and made right, but I like to see a variety on the carpet. My personal favorite dress was probably Jennifer Lawrence from Winters Bone. It was a red Ralph Lauren dress, very very simple, but she just rocked the hell out of it. And also Haleigh Steinfeld's custom made dress [I can't remember the designer] was just so beautiful and so age appropriate. Both were my top picks.

As for the awards, this show was boring as hell. The past 2 years have actually be really good because they switched up the way they did things and made it more entertaining to watch. But this year fell flat. And OMG I felt so bad for Anne Hathaway....James Franco was a stoned mess and she basically carried him throughout the entire hosting gig.

Glad Natalie Portman won. I personally loved Black Swan so I was really happy she won. Disappointed that Inception didn't win original screenplay. That movie was just insanely awesome. Disappointed that Helena Boham Carter didn't win, I just adore her lol. And I was still rooting for Jeff Bridges despite the fact everyone knew Colin Firth would win. Jeff was crazy good in True Grit.

Apparently I need to see The Kings Speech because it's the cats meow this award season lol.

Yeah I was wondering if I'd missed something about "nude" dresses because I noticed more than a few of them. Halle's wasnt bad but its kind of hard for me to look at her the same anymore following how messy she's being with the divorce from her husband and using her daughter as an emotional pawn.

and what the fuck was Melissa Leo wearing? that looked like something an old woman in a rest home crocheted together. Jennifer Hudson looks great. Loved the hear and the jewelry. the dress ....hmmm not that color. Kinda look like she was spun around in some tissue paper and pushed out the door on to the red carpet lol!

There were a few things here and there but I dont know if having Anne Hathaway and James Franco hosting what is supposed to be the biggest award show of the season was the best idea. I really think Anne is cute, her smile is a winner but I just dont think they had the stature to host this event.

um....anne hathaway's brown duck dance was kind of funny to me and james franco dressed in drag!?

Anne Hathaway acted like she was 12 years old introducing all those other folks. And didn't Jennifer Hudson practice what she had to say beforehand? She's an actress? lol

I thought the show itself was weird - it didn't flow properly. Like there being no introduction of Celine Dion and the In Memorium part, and then that weird segue into the Lena Horne thing. And all those odd little bits like the music thing...the pieces just needed to be put together better.

As for the awards, I STILL don't get what the big deal is about The Social Network. But that Toy Story 3 won all those awards? It was the worst of the 3! And I can't believe The Kids Are Alright was nominated for ANYTHING - that was awful. If it wasn't about lesbians no one would have given it a second look. The people took a great idea and made a bad movie. Typical Academy bs.

I felt bad Danny Boyle didn't win anything, but I was glad The King's Speech won.

Oscars go "young and hip" with traditional results

And so here's one write up on the evening's events by the associated press.

Like i said before, aside from the Pre-Show (which now even that isnt as good w/out Joan and Melissa Rivers) , the fashion (which in recent years has been getting kinda blah itslef) and the In Memoriam section and a few other things...the oscars just dont seem to hold me like they used to. They keep crowing about trying to go "young and hip"...and while I'm not missing Billy Crystal or even Whoopi Goldberg being the host, I rather liked Ellen Degeneres or Chris Rock's turns as hosts for the event.

Its like even the Oscars are caving in to the pressure to "stay relevant by appealing to the younger crowd" but kids and 18-25 year olds by and large dont even have the attention span to watch a show like this, let alone the movies this show tends to laud. Something's missing.

I'm with you on The Social Network, because it wasn't even that good to win all those awards. I've never seen The Kids Are Alright, but I heard it's very slow. And I'm definitely planning to see The King's Speech soon. But I'm glad that Natalie Portman got an award for Black Swan, because her perfomance in it was amazing.

Agreed about The Social Network. Granted Jesse Eislberg [or whatever his name is] was good in it, but I didn't really see the major appeal of it or the fact that it was good enough to be nominated for the Academy Awards. It was an okay movie, one that I wouldn't watch again.

Im definitely going to check out The Kings Speech and The Fighter. Those two movies i've wanted to see since the award show season started. I'm not really interested in watching The Kids Are Alright other than the fact I like Julianne Moore as an actress. But it's not enough to make me want to watch it, especially after you guys said it was slow and crappy lol.

I'm excited for Fashion Police tonight though! Ever since they brought Joan Rivers back for it [and gave her a weekly FP show to boot], i've tuned in every chance I get, especially for the major award shows. I just LOVE her.

You know I normally like Julianne Moore and think she's a good actress, but she was awful in this one. Maybe it was bad directing.

I love Fashion Police, I watch every Friday night at 10:30. Kelly and Joan are my favorites on the show. I'll make sure to watch this special when it's on this Friday :).
