Talk about a glamorous comeback, the show definately had a more polished look this year and Britney Spears was DEFINATELY the belle of the ball. She introduced Rihanna as the opening act, and the crowd gave her a standing ovation, clearly approving her newly svelt look, and the sparkling silver mini dress she rocked.

Britney also won ALL 3 of the VMAs she was nominated for including the top honor of "Video of the year" . This was the first year in which she actually WON any of her nominations and she didnt even have an official performance. It was definately a nice comeback from last year's eyebrow raising situation.

Other fabulous performances came from Rihanna, Kid Rock & Lil Wayne, Christina Aguilera, Paramour, Pink, Lil Wayne, T.I. & Rihanna and a cute tribute to Madonna by Katy Parry. Kanye West closed the show.

The show was hosted by the charming, irreverant Russell Brand who took shots at the Jonas Brothers, Madonna, Kobe Bryant and a few others.

This marks the 25th anniversary of the MTV VMA's but I don't believe the MTV VMA's will EVER be as eye popping or "controversial" as they have been from the show's inception with Madonna rolling around on the floor...to her coming full circle 20 years later when she lip locked with Britney and Christina and all the antics of various artists from shows in years past in between.

Did anyone else watch the show? what were your highlights?

One thing that DID annoy me..once again Madonna was up for best dance video (4 minutes) but once again she lost to the frickin PUSSY CAT DOLLS for their boring song (When i grow up) I guess its just a sign of the times. This show is DEFINATELY not what it was when I was younger. You can tell they try to stay focused on the "under 25" crowd.

I thought the host was hilarious. Probably the best host [in my opinion] that the VMA's has had in a looong time.

I really enjoyed Christina Aguilera's performance a lot [my fav of the night] and Pink and Paramore were both cool as well. But Kanye's sucked...I don't think he should have closed the show.

I'm really glad Britney Spears won her awards. As crazy as she has been the past couple years I really hope she stays on this path and makes a REAL comeback with a kick ass album.

I think Christina's performance was near my top pic as well for the show. The song was hot, the lyrcis were awesome and she looked GREAT!

Of course i was thrilled with Britney! I've always been a Britney fan even when it was "not cool" to be one. She may not be the best singer (we all know that) but if anyone has followed in Madonna's footsteps, it definately has been Brit.

Her new album should kick ass. "Danja" the decsciple of Timbaland who gave her the hit "Gimme more" off her Blackout album is one of the producers of her upcoming album as well as Rodney "darkchild" Jerkins. There's rumours of another Madonna collabo (Brit herself appears in Madonna's "Sticky & Sweet tour which is now in progress)

Lil Wayne with Kid Rock was a nice combo. putting that RUN DMC beat over "sweet home alabama' definately made it sound more appealing.

what i noticed about this show was that the AUDIENCE seemed more live and pumped. Some years in the recent past, the audience seemed dead...but this time, there was a renewed energy. I dont think show will ever be as truly "spontaneous" and upredictable as it had come to be known for (especially with the FCC breathing down everyone's necks now in a 'post janet jackson/nipplegate world) but this year's VMA's definately were much better in its presentation than any show since 2003...but it was still woefully TAME in terms of the "shock" that is liable to occurr at any given moment.
