NEW YORK – The date for Whitney Houston's comeback has been set.

Arista Records says her long-awaited album will be released Sept. 1. Houston hasn't released a CD in seven years.

So far, there's no official word on a title for the album.

The 45-year-old superstar is one of the best-selling artists of all-time, but in recent years, she's been defined more by drug problems, marital woes and erratic behavior than by her Grammy-winning voice.

But lately, Houston has appeared to return to her pop princess form. She wowed the crowd when she performed at her mentor Clive Davis' pre-Grammy party in February.

Clive Davis announced at rehearsals for the event that Houston will be recording a song called "I Didn't Know My Own Strength" with David Foster in the near future.

On Friday April 17, 2009 legendary songwriter Diane Warren revealed to Vibe Magazine that she had penned "I Didn't Know My Own Strength" especially for Houston and it was going to be the first single from Undefeated Information about its exact release is expected to be confirmed by the record label along with more information about the album.

Rap-Up Magazine also confirmed that producer Swizz Beatz had worked with Houston for her upcoming project by crafting an up-tempo number called "Mill Dollar Bill". He is quoted describing the track as a big comeback record.

On May 8, 2009, Perez Hilton reported on his website that "[a]n insider close to the project exclusively tells PerezHilton.com that Whitney is in the final recording stages of the album (she’s currently in the studio with Harvey Mason, Jr.) and the album cover shoot is scheduled for next week with legendary photographer Patrick Demarchelier."

As of May 15, Houston was putting the final touches to the album including selecting the cover and tracklisting. The only confirmed songs are first single "I Didn't Know My Own Strength". While speculation has arisen that the upcoming album will be entitled "Undefeated", no official word has surfaced.
 
I'm looking forward to seeing how this turns out. Have you guys heard her new song, I Look To You? It sounds allright. Her voice sounds a little different. But I'm really glad she didn't autotune it to death like everyone else seems to be doing.
 
I heard her new single "I look to you" for the first time this friday and HONESTLY? i think she was being aided by a voice synthesizer or something. It sounded TOO pristine (even for her) at some points...and subtlely electronic.

Believe me...when you know a voice as strong and as legendary as Whitney's...you can discern something so different like that.

I'm not KNOCKING her....its been rumoured for a while that her vocal chords arent what they used to be but i guess we'll see what happens as more and more people listen to it!

You really think so? I thought her voice sounded raw and raspy in that song. Like it's definitely not the way it used to be at all.

thats the thing she ALWAYS had a hint of that raspy sound in her voice...it was subtle and showed in some songs more than others but that was part of what it so strong and robust unlike these thin voiced "divas" Beyonce etc.

but in this song...her voice seemed to alternate between natural sounding and slightly electronic...at least to me.

one thing's for sure...her voice WAS definately different.

It is not as strong...expected from a recovering addict.

As for the strong voice quip, try MADONNA over Beyonce in thin-voiced and making it work somehow...Beyonce has one of the better voices in quite some time.

both women (madonna and beyonce) are mezzo soprano dear...the only difference between the two is the genres they excell in and Madonna has used both the lower AND higher ends of her octave range. (Bedtime Stories is a perfect example of her singing in lower tones and it works for her) to date, Beyonce has stayed about the same in her sound...so no, Madonna wouldnt be a better example (or applicable) of a "thin voiced diva" ;)

You just think Beyonce can do no wrong because you've been hypnotized by her bootylicious popping and "dancing" (if you can even call it that) LOL!

as for Whitney, hopefully the producers that were recruited for her album gave her some good material to work with. I'm amazed that Clive Davis is still ALIVE much less able to coordinate what everyone hopes will be the biggest "come back" since Mariah's in 2005.
 
I am excited for Whitney. Until we hear her live and not lip-synching, we can't really detour that is not her "real" voice in her new song. The song sounds like 90's Whitney. Which I like. I think she needs this comeback, to get her confidence back that she made mistake in the past. But she is still considerably one of the most amazing singers that have lived.
 
so Whitney's album is OUT and in full effect.

the first single "I look to you" is beautifull and I admit, it DOES resonate within me. Her vocals STILL sound synthesized to me though at some points...its a subtle but definate difference in a voice that is world reknown.

"Million dollar bill" is an epic fail in my opinion. its attempt to be "retro" funky is definately there...but its hardly the dance track that critics are lauding it to be.

"Nothin but Love" channels 80's Whitney but its not as sleek or as strong.

Overall, the album is decent and definately a strong comeback effort but if her performance on yesterday's "Good Morning America" (which was PRE RECORDED mind you) is any indication...Whitney is definately better in the studio now than she is LIVE and thats a sad change for this beloved pop diva.
 
Im really just not impressed and almost depressed about this album. It's decent but the years of LIFE abuse have obviously taken their toll. She used to have a PRESENCE and such a simple matter of fact attitude coupled with a POWERHOUSE voice and this just seems like a lack of effort on her part, but who knows.. maybe she can't do better at this point.

All in all I agree with the songs Farrah pointed out but I also enjoy Salute it has a nice blend of music and I like the chorus.
