Anyone here seen The Descent? I’m a huge horror movie junkie so I’d been dying to see this since I saw the trailer for it then saw the 90% + (now 84%) rating it got on rottentomatoes.com. Well I finally got around to seeing it yesterday and thought it was pretty damned good. Nothing actually scared me (I’ve declared myself immune at this point) but I still thoroughly enjoyed it. Great atmosphere with the dark caves and using the night vision on a handheld camera for a makeshift light.

SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS

My only issue was what I originally thought was the ending. If it would have held up I would have been pretty pissed off as it justified something that was just wrong.

Um, this movie sucked in my personal opinion.

I had been looking foward to it for quite a long time...yet I didn't have very high expectations. But anyway, in all the movie was well made, and scarier than most "horror" movies. Yet I still hated it. The characters were completely unlikable and I was hoping they'd all die, and something else just TOTALLY put me off. I'd rather have a non-scary horror movie with more likable characters and a more interesting plot.

I thought this movie would have made a great episode of The X-Files or something, lol.

But anyway, I didn't completely regret spending money on this, but I would never spend another cent to give it a second viewing. (OK, maybe one penny.)

I'm a huge horror fan so I obviously wanted to see this film. But by the time I got to the theaters it was already gone lol. So, I was thrilled when it came out on DVD.

I liked the location of the film and the fact the actresses weren't really stars. Which I thought was rather brilliant so the audience could center more on the plot. The only negative thing I thought was in some scenes the dialogue was difficult to understand from the actresses' accents.

The movie itself had a lot of suspense and thrills not only from the creatures but utilizing the environment. So many people are claustrophobic and even I was sitting here thinking "oh my God, fucking movie!" It was almost like the audience was transported into this dark cave. I'm not claustrophobic in the least but in the one scene I felt as though I was lol.

I liked the creature affects and make-up although it did remind me of the Nosferatu. The sound effects were rather creepy in parts almost like the Thing with that constant bass.

I thought the ending was brilliant. I also liked the deleted scenes in the Special features of the DVD. The director elaborates more on the ending. Here is a character who is sweet and soft spoken and in the end goes out of her mind from what she's witnessed and done to survive.

So many movies are easy to predict but not this film, which is so rare. A lot of films rely on special affects but this movie relied more on the actresses' and the darkness of the cave.

I liked this film overall and I would definitely see it again.

I really like this movie alot. It was brutal and it was simple and I really liked it, the monsters were awful looking and I mean ugly and not that scary.. I liked only seeing the flashes of them instead of all of them full on.

i had a hard time feeling sorry for these women after one of them WILLINGLY left the map in the truck before they gallavanted off to that previously uncharted Cave. HOW STUPID!

she basically signed their "death warrants" at that point.

from that point on, it was REALLY hard for me to care about any of the characters...i was more or less trying to figure out who would get OFF'ed at whichever moment.

the ending annoyed me as well.
the surviving woman went through this extremely physical and emotional trial of trying to push/pull herself out of that exit of the cave and it was almost like a subtle metaphor to her being "reborn" if you watched the way she emerged. she staggers and stumbles to the truck and drives away in a frenzy of emotion....only to wake up and find that it was all a dream and she's STILL stuck in the damn cave.
