The Spice Girls are to make an announcement about their future plans next week, sparking speculation that one of the world's most successful girl bands is set to reunite for a new album and concert tour.

The Spice Girls sold more than 30 million albums and topped charts around the world before Posh, Scary, Sporty, Baby and Ginger decided to pursue solo careers with differing levels of success.

Geri "Ginger Spice" Halliwell left the group in 1998 and the other four quit in 2001.

"The Spice Girls are set to make an official announcement to the world regarding future plans on Thursday 28th June," their management said in a statement on Friday.

"No further information can be given at this time but given the band's unique history you can be sure to expect the unexpected," Simon Fuller's 19 Entertainment said.

Hahaha! Dude, i'm such a sucker. I used to love the Spice Girls. lol. I can't wait to hear what they come up with.:p

The Spice Girls are reforming? My Mom and Sister used to listen to them all the time, especially on our way to the beach. But of course when they broke I up I never thought in a billion years that I would ever see them make another CD...but I see I am wrong! Oh why has fate played such a cruel hand unto me?

It's official!!

The Spice Girls announced Thursday that they have agreed to reunite for 11 concerts around the world in December and January.

They will be the group's first concerts since it broke up in 2001, and the first with all five original members since Geri "Ginger Spice" Halliwell quit to pursue a solo career in 1998.

The group said shows would be in Los Angeles on Dec. 7, Las Vegas on Dec. 8 , New York on Dec. 11, London on Dec. 15, Cologne on Dec. 20, Madrid on Dec. 23, Beijing on Jan. 10, Hong Kong on Jan. 12, Sydney on Jan. 17, Cape Town on Jan. 20 and Buenos Aires on Jan. 24.

Halliwell, 34, appeared with Victoria "Posh Spice" Beckham, 33, Melanie "Sporty Spice" Chisholm, 33, Emma "Baby Spice" Bunton, 31, and Melanie "Scary Spice" Brown, 32, to pose for photos and announce tour plans.

"We wanted to say thank you to our fans. It just feels very right for us," Chisholm said.

The group's first single, "Wannabe," was released in 1996 and was followed by a string of No. 1 hits.

But their last album, "Forever," released in 2000 and without Halliwell, fared poorly.

PERSONAL THOUGHT: I LOVED the Spice Girls...my favorites were Ginger and Posh Spice and I rocked to their first two albums. I thought they were cute, sexy, playfull and fun. Funny how people felt they only appealed to YOUNGER girls and yet they are in MY age group so i dont feel embarrassed at all about saying that I am a fan of the Spice Girls :D

Aww damn, I thought they were putting out a new CD. :( I was a big fan of the Spice Girls back in the day. My favorite was Geri, because she was the only redhead (although fake lol) in the group, lol. But maybe they'll have the tour on DVD or something so I can check it out.

I was a huge fan of the Spice Girls back in the day! I used to love all their music. I used to collect the stickers that used to come in Chupa Chups lollipops and warheads. I was addicted!

I stated my opinion of their comeback on one of S-G's sister sites, Three-Tasks. So, I'm going to c&p my opinion straight from there if that's not a problem...

I honestly have mixed feelings on this, myself. It's cool to see the five of them getting back together again. But I'm getting the impression that they're going to be performing all their original music, and I just don't think it suits them anymore. They were in their 20's when they formed the group, dressing in skimpy outfits and pumps. Now they're in their 30's, have families and personally, I think if they're going to get back together, they should get back in the studio and produce all new music. They've all obviously changed, and their music should reflect that.

I would love to see a new album AND a tour. I agree, there should be a new album with some flawless production, perhaps they could work with Missy Elliot or the Neptunes (although the Neptunes are starting to get kind of "tired") but the main thing would be to have them TOGETHER and for THEM to do what they did best, make their fans want to party and dance. They had some romantic , sweet songs (2 become 1, Mama etc) but i think the Spice Girls should try to do something a little more sexy and "club friendly".

for their tour, of course they're gonna have to do their most popular songs, and maybe each of them could do a hit from their solo careers and have the other's join in?

who knows how it will go, but I definately will be one of the many to watch and see.
