Retired cop guns down man for texting at Florida movie: sheriff - U.S. News

Retired Tampa cop denied bail in movie-theater slaying - U.S. News

Now, I agree that texting in the movies is bad etiquette, but is it worth shooting & KILLING someone over? I think not. That [retired] cop was just wrong for that & now someone's life is lost b/c of his poor judgement. I can't believe his attorney has the gall to argue "he had every right to defend himself..." defend himself from WHAT excactly?
The only thing that bothers me here is that this happened in Florida, the "stand your ground" state. the [retired] cop has been denied bail & rightfully so. how come the state didnt handle the murderer george zimmerman the same way?
