Oscar Nominations

I noticed that Kon-Tiki was nominated (norwegian movie about Thor Heyerdahl, it was kind of a big deal here in the north, but it ain't winning material)

I have no real interest in the oscars, sure if there is a movie i enjoyed i might root for it, but i won't stay up all night watching.

I'm not into awards like this but at a certain point aren't the Oscars really predictable?

I used to like the Oscars too, but now it's more about who is behind the scenes campaigning for a certain actor/actress, and not about the actual performance in a movie.

For example, I saw Zero Dark Thirty and didn't think Jessica Chastain's performance was all that fantastic. In fact, I thought it was bland and boring. However she's a shoe in to win for best leading actress because she has the biggest buzz thus far. Whereas I truly believe Naomi Watts had an amazingly heartbreaking and tough performance in The Impossible and deserves it so much more than JC.

Same thing can be said for the Golden Globes too. It's all about who's the most popular actor/movie/show/director and not about who's the best.

I don't watch enough movies these days to make the Oscars interesting.
It's hard to care when you haven't seen any of the movies being nominated.
