Remember when it used to be relevant? When it launched the age of the music video and enjoyed a plural marraige to Michael Jackson and Madonna for nearly two decades?

Now its like this ongoing rapid fire sequence of nonsense for a generation that apparently has serious A.D.D. problems.

I know if you have certain cable packages there are channels in the higher range that still do nothing but videos and now they've even got them subdivided into genres but its still not like it was.

It seems odd to me that more people havent really noticed the death of MTV and its reanimation as...whatever this thing is now lol!

Any memorable MTV moments for you? videos, VMAs etc.

I'll always remember waiting to see the next NEW Madonna video. I remember her "rock the vote" commercial in 1990 where she told everyone to vote or they'd get a spanking LOL! the debut of "The Real World". Several different VMAs that had shocking moments. The last truly authentic big VMA moment for me was 2003 when Madonna used Britney & Christina as her playthings.

MTV's stupid now. All it is is "reality" shows like Jersey Shore and other crap. I don't even know why they continue to call it MTV because there's nothing musical about it.

I miss the days of TRL and the 2 hour blocks of music videos that would come on periodically throughout the day. It was always exciting to see what new music videos my favorite artists produced. But now everything's done on youtube via VEVO.

The only things I really look forward to on MTV anymore are the VMA's and the MTV movie awards. Other than that it's totally irrelevant to me.

MTV was ever good? idk seems really sad to me that i can't even remember when it showed music videos being Music TV

We had the former president of MTV come talk to us when I was in grad school, and someone asked him why MTV doesn't play videos anymore. And he said that people voted with their remote controls - they change the channel when a song comes on they don't like.

I don't like MTV. It has reality garbage like Teen Mom and The Jersey Shore. I've never been a fan of the channel, but I do remember when 16 and Pregnant didn't exist either :)

Really? I watched the first episode and thought it was complete crap so I stopped watching them. The other episodes are better?

Well I've watched the UK series, so I know the storylines. Some of the UK episodes were written by teens and they stipulated the actors actually be the age of the characters they were portraying. I thought they did a good job remaking it but not making it a cheap imitation.

how old are you? you might not have been around for some of the things that made MTV once a truly relevant staple of pop culture and music. I agree w/ you about the reality garbage ESPECIALLY the 16 & Pregnant shit wtf!? that show is all kinds of wrong and sends the WRONG message in general.

Ive not seen ONE episode of Jersey Shore. In fact I dont even know when the last time it was I even tuned into MTV...well wait. 2009, Madonna & Janet's tribute to MJ at the beginning of that year's VMAs. Not since then though.

I Tivo Skins and that's it. I didn't even know Jersey Shore was ON MTV lol

It's said really, because I used to LOVE it. We didn't get cable where I lived until I was in the grade, so whenever I was at someone's house who had cable until then, I was glued to their tv lol

Ive seen other people talk about it...what is that? The first thought I had was Buffalo Bill from Silence of the Lambs :haha:

It's a show based on one now on it's 5th season in the UK, that supposedly is what it's really like to be a teen, with episodes written by teens and the actors are actually the ages they are portraying. They change the cast every 2 years.

I do prefer the UK version but MTV has pretty much remade the same episodes with American actors. It's not like Being Human where the US version is AWFUL.

I would check out the UK version first though if you can, cause it is better.
