My picks for artists & songs are:

Justin Beiber
Lady Gaga

Girls run the world (or whatever its called)

its crazy to me how Beiber or those similar can come out w/ ONE song from ONE album [full of fillers] & they get compared to long established legends, are all over the place & called "greatest of all time"? really? from ONE song? :haha:

I've gone from being a fan of Gaga's to growing tired of her mainly b/c i feel like her very real talent for writing & even singing have been lost in her antics. after "born this way" which to me was a madonna/express yourself rip off...the next two singles ofher's didnt click for me at all.

I feel she's trying too hard to proove how "far out" she is. i always say the difference between madonna & anyone whose followed her & is compared to her is that when she did stuff...MOST of it was purely on impulse. it wasnt some design of her record label, in fact most of the time her label was appalled by what she would do in terms of wardrobe or presentation. She was going by impulse & creative instinct. W/ Gaga it just looks & feels very contrived to me. The girl is a talented lyricist & can sing but are we supposed to believe ANY of the shit she wears when being caught on camera is just laying in her closet? Madonna didnt start tapping into Jean Paul Gaultier for her bullet bras until she was 7 years ( & a handfull of albums & tours) into her career.

& as for "girls run the world"? omg that song sounds like it was written, produced & arranged by somebody with SEVERE attention deficit disorder! :smash:

Both of them have YEARS upon YEARS to go before they can whispered with Madonna...I chalk it up to normal run-of-the-mill fanaticism.

Everyone who is a fan of someone overestimates their overall worth I believe.

fan bias is one thing...its usually arguable like "madonna vs janet" or something like that but when it comes to Beiber? no way should he be seen as being in ANYBODY'S league LOL!

meanwhile who are your picks for overrated artist/song @ the moment?

Gaga's problem is she forgot she is a musician and think she's some type of cultural force which is ironically why she's losing most of her following now

"Just the Way You Are"

It plays on my local radio station all the time. Had to stop listening to the radio as I didn't want to get to the point where it drives me absolutely insane.

The thing with Gaga is she is talented, there's no doubt about that. She can sing, write, play piano, and dance, which is saying a lot for half the artists out there right now. However, I do agree that I think she's become more of a "what is she going to wear/do next" celebrity than an artist. I absolutely loved her first and second album, they had SO many catchy dance tracks. But I read that those albums were more pushed by her label and not the types of songs she wanted to do as an artist, and that this current album is what she wanted to put out. Frankly, I would say, listen to your label. I'm all about creativity and expressing yourself, however I listened to her newest album and there are maybe 2 songs on there that I would actually listen to. Not her best by any means.

Anyway! I have to say currently LMFAO's "Party Rock Anthem" is fucking annoying as hell. This song is all over the radio 500 times a day and it's stupid already. I like Katy Perry, but she's definitely overexposed this year, as well as Rihanna [whom I like as well]. But when you flip from one station to another 3 times because Rihanna is on all 3 stations, that's when you know you're overexposed lol.

I can agree w/ you on alot of that, Pam. It definately points to what BK was saying about Gaga seemed to morph from a pretty cool musician into a [self styled OR manufactured] "cultural force". I too liked her first album & even the 2nd one, but now? eh. When you mentioned her label, it made me remember the fact that it was AKON who signed her to his vanity label. There was an article a year or two after her ascendency to pop stardom where he said "I could retire now just off what she's done." that sounded kind of odd to me. But it makes me wonder if he/his label are really pushing her to continue w/ these wardrobe antics etc. I mean hell, even Madonna was THAT self aware of what she was doing @ first as she was turning heads & making people go crazy w/ her outfits, lyrics etc.

& um....let me add REBECCA BLACK to the list. first of all, wtf is this bitch & why has she gotten this much attention/play?? this girl CAN'T SING @ ALL & yet she's all over the place! Last year, an established [& actual] artist (i cant remember who) released a single off their forthcoming album & apparently was OUTSOLD by Rebecca Black!? & even the music critic whose article i was reading said "what kind of time are we living in when a real musical talent is outsold by someone like Rebecca Black." SERIOUSLY! why is this girl even "famous?" I could carry a tune better than her W/O a voice box & have more depth & flair even though I'm not a singer.

I feel bad for Rebecca Black though after her song hit bully got to bad shes been forced to go into homeschooling. Her song may suck be shes still 14.

AND? She's apart of this generation that is OBSESSED w/ FAME @ any cost. There was a study about this just a week ago online too. "Generation @" youth are obssesed w/ obtaining fame however they can get it. being famous matters more than getting an education or actually having talent that would warrant fame. She's a prime example of it. If she (or her parents since she's a juvenile) allow her to be put out there like that, KNOWING how it's going to be...who's fault is that?

I'm just saying its attitudes that drive folks from school at 14 that also drive them to suicide.

I'm just saying its attitudes that drive folks from school at 14 that also drive them to suicide.

point taken. but again...knowing she's 14, knowing what generation she's apart of & how its already well documented what they crave above all else...shouldnt her PARENTS have behaved w/ more awareness & dilligence? what did they think was going to happen when this girl was all over the place w/ over exposure due to her "songs".

She's a juvenile so clearly they had to consent for her to even record in a studio.

She's definitely overrated & over exposed & its unfortunate that her parents didnt exercise better judgement.

I don't get the Rebecaa Black hype either, but I agree with BK, she's only 14 and doesn't deserve the backlash she got. HOWEVER, I think the blame falls on her parents. They obviously gave their consent for her to join this weird music label and put out a video on youtube. These days, I think parents are more obsessed with making their kids famous than kids are of becoming famous. Case and point, Toddlers in Tiaras.
