i think anybody with ears, a brain and the power to read between the lines can see whats going on in egypt is another CLEAR example of american beckoning w/ one hand but trying to reprimand w/ the other.

our gov't pretty much installed/paid for the dictator whose occupied that position in Egypt for 30 years now. its not that much different from the Shah the U.S. not so subtlely pushed/helped to install in Iran before the conservative wave drove him out of power and into exile in america in the late 60s (or was it the early 70s).

america needs to just get a clue and BUT OUT of middle eastern affairs all together. they've used egypt for years as a tool in their never ending quest to meddle in issues they'll NEVER resolve. that 2 billion in aid they give could be better served helping people RIGHT HERE that need help and aid.

What do you think?

The issues in the Middle East and Africa for the most part were created as a result of reckless European Imperialism then aggravated by reckless American Imperialism really that whole region has gotten the short end of the planetary stick and needs help fixing it's issues but no one is willing to give aid without trying to exploit them first.

I pretty much agree what Jill said. I understand that Egypt is one of our allies and that they might want us to help them. But it's really not any of our business because it's not our country and we are not the ones who should be handling these problems. And even if we do try to help them, I don't think it'll do much either way.

I agree but it will NEVER happen until the US stops unconditionally backing Israel. Which also will never happen lol

well well....do WE agree on TWO things here?? (my initial statement and your response) :p

but seriously, ive been asking anybody why the U.S. CODDLES Isreal. Nobody seems to have a real answer that makes sense. Im not at all convinced Israel would ever come to OUR aid if we needed it.

yeah im not impressed w/ israel at all.

you'll have to forgive me, but i need to express this thought to see what others think about it.

so all this unrest in egypt has erupted. doesnt it seem rather fortuitous? right on the eve of the gop/tea party poised to swoop in and slash and hack domestic programs, jobs and more...THIS happens and of course everyone's attention is drawn to it and already articles are suggesting "obama may be diverted from his desire to focus on jobs/economy fighting the gop's plans" and at least one article seems to imply the gop is moving in on slashing/hacking programs WHILE this is going on as a smoke screen.

call me paranoid, but i do feel its all connected. the u.s. gov't was apart of the problem there to begin with and you can bet they knew what was going on. they essentially pay murbarak 2 billion a year. the used egypt as a tool in their "war on terror". but NOW suddenly our gov't has a problem w/ mubarak. its all such b.s. to and goes back to what i posted originally. if you wanna cut some spending somewhere...how about that foreign aid? we got people who need help RIGHT HERE.

get out of middle east/african nation affairs and take care of your own house.

The problem with doing that (even if I agree with you that it should be done) is that isolationism isn't going to work for us until we stop being a target for certain Middle East countries. Until we denounce our support of Israel (never going to happen) we do need allies in the region or we leave ourselves wide open to attack. Cause if we stop our aid unilaterally, that will increase. Which is not to say that we couldn't (or shouldn't) discontinue aid to leaders who aren't taking care of their people.

Probably (or should I say HOPEFULLY) the reason the government is is in a holding pattern as far as Egypt is concerned is that they're worried that this will make Egypt and by extension the region unstable. It seems, though, that it's pretty certain the military is going to take over. Which may not be a bad thing considering how corrupt their police are.
