First look at X-Men's new giant blue villain, Apocalypse

---------------------------------------------

Ok I have a question. Didn't Psylocke make a bizarre cameo in X-men Last Stand, and didn't she DIE?

Who is that woman they've cast as Storm? She looks NOTHING like her! That costume & "mohawk"? #FAIL

Apocalypse looks like a cross between a borg & the wish-master, after getting thrown up on by a smurf.

Yeah, but that is another timeline so it doesnt really count.

"wish-master" you know I never saw that movie.

edit: I didnt mean you literally, just a general you.. I have no idea what you know about my movie predilections.

edit part deux: by general I did not mean to imply you have an military rank.

I knew what you meant LOL! :p still, as a long time marvel comic reader, I can tell you that this movie version of apocalypse is HORRIBLE & looks nothing like the character (& again...who is that woman they cast as STORM!? HORRIBLE!)

Well, I havent seen anything after Last Stand. The first three X films were so shitty & upsetting to me that I've boycotted all marvel comic-to-movie adaptations since.

I suppose that retcon/ de-cannoning of that film works for them. that psylocke in Last Stand was hardly recognizable & seemed pointless LOL

It's just tragic that Fox Studios has the rights to the X-men & that they let Singer, who admittedly never read/isnt a fan of the source material, direct these films. That's one reason why they were so shitty!

Agreed I actually liked the last X-Men movie, because I think it really highlighted Mystique well..Olivia Munn as Psylocke I don't know about..but Psylocke is one of my FAVORITES so I am happy to see her IN something!

First Class I enjoyed but I would not recommend it to you!! I am sure you would hate it.

I didn't see it, but i saw publicity stills of January Jones cast as the White Queen  a few ppl that I know that still allow themselves to see these movies said that she was not very good in the role. I always felt my "dream casting" of the white queen would be sharon stone, but I realize she's "too old" by the studio standards & the audience they'd want to pull in. but for embodying the character? I think she's perfect.

what did you think of JJ as the White Queen?

Having read Mystique for so many years, I didn't care for how she was portrayed in the first three X films, although Rebecca Romijn did a decent enough job, why did the character have to be essentially NAKED? and what was up w/ her hair? Mystique is a vicious fighter & so THAT part of it they got right, but her being subordinate to Magneto (much less being in love w/ him as it was implied in those earlier films)? Never. Her betraying her fellow mutants (& magneto) to the gov't? not @ all what she'd do.

I havent seen Ashley Lawrence's portrayal of her, but I dont like how she looks in the character.

As for Psylocke, I'll be curious to hear (& later see via clips online) how they translate her psi power signatures on screen. will she have her classic "butterfly" effect or will it just be the psychic knife & will THAT look decent even?

It's sad to me that the original british Elizabeth Braddock version of psylocke has been lost forever & nobody seems to want to RETIRE that tired ass costume she's been wearing for almost 20 yrs now lol.

In this last one it covers when Mystique kills the Senator. Actually, the whole movie is about her attempting to stop politics that threaten mutants in a vicious and fun way. I really liked it. Sure she looks stupid in the movie but it's the best they've ever done with her. She actually is a character rather than a sex symbol.

And it's Jennifer Lawrence! Not Ashley lol!

Ah! so they kept @ least ONE key element of the days of future past storyline. in the books, that whole dystopian timeline (from which Rachel Grey hails ) was brought about by Mystique & her brotherhood of evil mutants assassinating Senator Robert Kelly in retaliation for his pushing anti-mutant legislation.

It's interesting to read that Mystique was such a focal point in this movie. It's GOOD that she was presented as more than somebody's subordinate or just a piece of eye candy.

Did Singer direct this one too? ( i really can't stand him)

 oopsie! LOL! I was clearly thinking of Ashley Lawrence, the actress from the Hellraiser film franchise!

It connects the two "Franchises" so to speak lol. In Days of Future Past we see the Mystique Storyline and everything and it flashes every now and then to the dystopian future where the X-Men are being hunted by Sentinels..we see Storm (Halle Berry) and the others from the first three movies dealing with things..of course they all get murdered but Professor X ends up saving things lol. So it's actually a really clever way for the new owner of the franchise to explore their own take while still connecting to the first three movies.

I take it then that Rachel doesn't appear in the film. In the books, she's the one who facilitates ShadowCat going back into the past to alert the X-men about Mystique's assassination plot so they can stop her & her group. ironically enough, the in the first pages of days of future past, when we see Kate (a grown & weary Kitty Pryde) moving through the devastated streets of new york city, the established year is 2013 lol!

Many of the X-men (along w/ the Fantastic Four, Avengers & Ghost Rider ) were long dead, & the few who survived where in a concentration camp. Wolverine, who had escaped to Canada & was the last FREE X-men, helped them break out & in their final battle against the sentinels @ the FF's old headquarters, Wolverine meets a violent & brutal death that im SURE he didn't get in the movie. Storm dies & its heart breaking to watch Colossus craddle her body as she takes her last breath & he gives in to his rage, going wild on the sentinels before he too is killed, leaving only Rachel & Kate (now inhabited by the spirit of her younger self from the past & in a coma ) to survive, which ITSELF leads to the story of how she came to be on "mainstream" earth.

In the movie there is a scene where ALL of them get pretty brutally murdered. That whole scene is pretty cool actually..Blink makes an appearance and the whole fight is kind of something you might find in The Six lol. The Sentinels look REALLY cool and the X-Men put up one HELL of a fight, but it's the most organized on film they've ever been!

I did not like it at all. I liked First Class, but I think DoFP was so crammed with stuff it needed a longer run time or a second movie. In First Class you had time to let the scene settle and breathe. There really wasnt that in DoFP. Of course I've only seen it once but... there was just alot of things wrong with it. Though I admit I am hypercritical of things making sense when I watch movies.
