Established DC character to come out

My long shot cash is on Wonder Woman, the idea that she was raised on an all female island that saw men as either breeding stock or worst just always made me wonder (no pun intended) Paradise Island does have canon mating/marriage rituals (or they used to be) that are woman to woman only.

and there was that blacksmith that had a crush on her (who's name I'm blanking on)

LOL, that might be what DC was hinting at when they tried to team him up with Blue Beetle as the Red and Blue (to contrast the old Ted Kord and Booster Gold, Blue and Gold team)

Thats awesome theyre adding another gay character. I really love that Kate Kane is a lesbian it made her that much more awesome to me haha XD

I have no guesses as to who it could be though. But it makes a lot more sense now why Midtown Comics was looking for a same sex couple to get married at the store lol

and shes still around got her own monthly (which i feel is one of the best bat books) and everything

another guess for the new out character Tim Drake, i feel it in my bones

i honestly thought about him but isnt he on/off w/ Wonder Girl II??

Batgirl
yes hers is the best book <3
The only thing I don't like is that this seems like a publicity stunt more than just writing good, real life characters.

I agree, it seems like pandering. If you want to impress me, let's have a gay character and it be no big deal.

I think the announcement could be seen as a publicity grab but a character who is established & long standing "coming out" is important b/c think about all the ppl who struggle w/ that issue? & just like women who read comics are often overlooked, so to are gay ppl. I think its important that ALL kinds of ppl be reflected in tv shows, comics etc. Clearly they want to tap into a market w/ this.

Look how far Marvel has come w/ its LGBT characters. Northstar was ahead of his time. But then in recent years, many characters who were established have come out as gay, lesbian or bi-sexual like Karma or Mystique.

I agree with you, but I don't like to see stereotypical characters put in tv/movies/comics just so the big wigs can get publicity.

Green Lantern relaunched as brave, mighty and gay

lohud.com said:
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Green Lantern, one of DC Comics' oldest and enduring heroes no matter what parallel earth he's on, is serving as a beacon for the publisher again, this time as a proud, mighty and openly gay hero.

The change is revealed in the pages of the second issue of "Earth 2" out next week, and comes on the heels of what has been an expansive year for gay and lesbian characters in the pages of comic books from Archie to Marvel and others.

But purists and fans note: This Green Lantern is not the emerald galactic space cop who was, and is, part of the Justice League and has had a history rich in triumph and tragedy.

Instead, said James Robinson, who writes the new series, Alan Scott is the retooled version of the classic Lantern whose first appearance came in the pages of "All-American Comics" No. 16 in July 1940.

And his being gay is not part of some wider story line meant to be exploited or undone down the road, either.

"This was my idea," Robinson explained this week, noting that before DC relaunched all its titles last summer, Alan Scott had a son who was gay.

But given "Earth 2" features retooled and rebooted characters, Scott is not old enough to have a grown son.

"By making him younger, that son was not going to exist anymore," Robinson said.

"He doesn't come out. He's gay when we see him in issue two," which is due out Wednesday. "He's fearless and he's honest to the point where he realized he was gay and he said 'I'm gay.'"

"It was just meant to be 7/8— Alan Scott being a gay member of the team, the Justice Society, that I'll be forming in the pages of 'Earth 2,'" he said. "He's just meant to be part of this big tapestry of characters."

It's also another example of gay and lesbian characters taking more prominent roles in the medium.

In May, Marvel Entertainment said super speedster Northstar will marry his longtime boyfriend in the pages of "Astonishing X-Men." DC comics has other gay characters, too, including Kate Kane, the current Batwoman.

And in the pages of Archie Comics, Kevin Keller is one of the gang at Riverdale High School and gay, too.

Some groups have protested the inclusion of gay characters, but Robinson isn't discouraged, noting that being gay is just one aspect to Scott.

"This guy, he's a media mogul, a hero, a dynamic type-A personality and he's gay," Robinson said. "He's a complex character."

So...apparently they're going a whole new route with Green Lantern too.

well i certainly wouldn't have guessed Green Lantern. I don't follow him when he's not featured in one of the "Justice" ensemble books so this doesnt really impact me like it will more loyal fans of the character.

I havent read much on Kate Kane so I can't comment on her either.

I feel like Marvel has an edge on DC w/ the selection & handling of their LGBT characters.

Mystique
Destiny
Karma
Northstar
Lightspeed
Wiccan
Hulkling
Striker

Among others, have all been handled quite well & are prominently featurd in the titles they are apart of.
