So where's the love for TV's longest running sci-fi show?

This is my fav of all shows at there as I've been since the 70s.

Jon Pertwee was first Dr Who and ties as my fav.
Tom Baker is my other fav.

Sarah Jane Smith my fav companion with Martha Jones being the companion to make me go :love10:.

So, what about the rest of you?

Which ever one was running during the late 70's thru the 80's is the one i most remember. It was, at times freaky, but always intriguing to watch. I remember that I watched it on the CBC channel but now it comes on BBC.

I couldnt even tell you who was who, though i would recognize the faces of the characters. i remember an episode where a girl had a snake tattoo on her arm and it symbolized some kind of infectionor curse and whenver she'd touch someone, she'd transfer the curse to her victim.

I think it was Tom Baker (brown curly hair and a long scarf) you first saw. The snake one was Peter Davison (blonde hair and creme coloured suit).

I started watching it in the early 70s on TVOntario (think PBS for a single state) and on PBS. CBC plays the present one, but months after it's played over in the UK as well as it's spin-off - Torchwood.

Here are the 10 Doctors to date......

oh you have a good memory for detail. from the 2nd row, the first two (going from left to right) are the one's i remember watching when the show was on the CBC channel. definately those two. i see the current show's opening theme has elements of the opening theme that i remember from the late 70's/early 80's too.

ah Doctor Who, to be honest i never seen anything earlier than the new show but i watch it regularly. Its quickly become one of my favorite shows on television.

For this stuff I do for the most part.

My parents always said I watched the show "religiously" in the 70s and 80s. Late 80s and onwards.....got hard with work in the way. :heee:

Yup it does, I think they wanted invoke that for us old fans.

That's cool to read. You might be able to enjoy the classic stuff too, but of course, it'll be akin to watching classic Trek or Galactica after watching the recent stuff. The present series is a continuation of the classic show, so that could help you in some ways. :heee:

i usually just use wiki to pick up on things in the new series but i been thinking of trying to get into the old one same with classic BSG.

Wiki is good, but sometimes something is missed.

Galactica may be a little harder being more whimsical then not.
Dr Who has always been a little weird, so you should enjoy it. Just don't be hard on it continuity wise.

I'm not really that big on continuity, well i am but not enough to place it before a good story. I look for BSG reruns on Sci-fi, I think i'm going to probably buy or rent Who on DVD.

Sadly for Dr Who, there aren't that many episodes on DVD, although it was pretty much on video tape. Maybe there'll be some Youtube thing going of it somewhere or certain TV channels will play it. It's fun stuff.

So, tomorrow, we'll get the second part of the reintroduction of the Sontarans.
I'm pumped, the scene with the "SONTAR-AH!" chant was fun to see. It'll be fun to see the Doctor save the day and Martha, but just how is the icing.
