This is the latest from CNN:

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Neil Patrick Harris is gay and wants to quell any rumors to the contrary.

"(I) am quite proud to say that I am a very content gay man living my life to the fullest," Harris tells People magazine's Web site.

The 33-year-old actor said he was motivated to disclose his sexuality because of recent "speculation and interest in my private life and relationships."

Great thread for discussion.
That link above didn't work for me. :( My question is, why does he come out now? Is this a new fad for male celebrities to come out and announce their sexuality? First it was Lance Bass (not a shocker there) and now Neil. Although I have to admit, I didn't think Neil was gay. I loved him as Doogie, he was so cute on that show, it seemed fitting for him. I'm just curious why he waited so long, is it because America is more tolerant of homosexuality? Or is it to receive publicity?

i was not surprised that Neil was gay. i hate to say this..but he had "the look" about him. i guess as a fag hag i've been able to hone my "gaydar" over the years lol. he's worked with several gay icons (including MADONNA) and he did a hillarious turn on "Will and Grace" as a character who was a leader of a christian group about gay people who "went straight"..you KNEW that group was doomed to fail LOL :haha: and what happened? his character ended up going out with JACK!

i just didnt find this to be surprising at all.

that one actor (he starred in the historically popular tv movie "the thornbirds") ..i think his name was Will Chamberlain...came out a couple years ago after being a "leading man" in hollywood for YEARS and it makes me wonder...what was the point? you decided to wait until after OTHER people braved the fires of public scrutiny before you come out?

I thought he was straight. As far as his timing is concerned, I think he may have put off coming out because he felt it might keep roles from him. Considering the movie studios weren't exactly pounding on his door for him to play stereotypical straight man macho roles, maybe he finally figured he had nothing to lose. *shrugs*

If I was ever to become famous I would be completely openly gay.. there would be no going back into the closet, I mean if I don't get a role because I was gay then fuck that role, you know what I mean?
