I have to admit, when i first saw the promos for Captain Marvel (formerly Ms. Marvel)...I was jarred by her new look. I felt it was rather masculine, especially the hairstyle. I wasn't sure how else this Marvel icon would be changing.

I'm happy to say that UNLIKE character overhauls that have happened in DC's "New 52", Carol Danvers' transformation into Captain Marvel has been pretty good! & thankfully some of the artists/pencilers handling her as of late have made her hairstyle more feminine (it was WAY too "butch" for my taste in the beginning of her new look reveal). Some of the pencilers that have worked on the comic should not be invited back though :sure: i've seen children who can do a better job w/ "water color" art...

Captain Marvel really does feel like an organic sequel to the two volumes of "Ms. Marvel". But I was troubled by her power flux issues. I hate how writing teams always want to plague Carol w/ this after a long, sustained period of high power levels. & now that she's Captain Marvel, she really SHOULD enjoy a high level power status as did her namesake. She still has her classic Ms. Marvel powers, the key "Binary" powers as well as her kree hybrid physiology. i think she needs to be recognized as a cosmic lvl earthbound character.

It was a nice touch seeing Monica Rambeau in a storyline & they did an excellent job of referencing her stint as Captain Marvel II, especially when she & Carol traded bitchy barbs about how many codenames each other has had over the years. Her relationship w/ Tony Stark seems to have come full circle & her friendship w/ SpiderWoman is in tact. She has a nice supporting cast of fellow metahumans & base-line humans in her book. Overall, this is a book I will gladly put on my "pull list"
