Biden's 'one birth policy' in China controversy

So VP Joe Biden made some comments about China's one birth policy & now is trying to clarify his statements.

What i found QUITE amusing was this:

"The Obama administration strongly opposes all aspects of China's coercive birth limitation policies, including forced abortion and sterilization," Biden spokeswoman Kendra Barkoff said in a statement released to reporters Tuesday night. "The vice president believes such practices are repugnant. He also pointed out, in China, that the policy is, as a practical matter, unsustainable. He was arguing against the one child policy to a Chinese audience."

So the VP takes an opportunity to deliver such STRONG rhetoric & is implying he's what...a supporter of women's [couples]reproductive rights? like it is in the U.S.? <<sarcasm>> What's HIS track record on supporting Roe vs Wade even as the push by the [far]right to overturn it grows & states dominated by the GOP/Tea Party have attempted to ammend their constitutions banning abortion?

How is the U.S. ANY BETTER on the matter of reproductive rights when nearly 40 years after Roe vs Wade changed the lives of women for the BETTER ppl still want to see it overturned & for what? some lofty & often hypocritical ideaology?

I find it funny that he's gone on record w/ such strong opinions, considering his own country wages a constant war on women's reproductive rights.

China's "one birth" policy is definitely rooted in sexism & has begun to show why its not beneficial NOW w/ an aging population & not enough healthy YOUNG women to support growth. But here in the U.S. you may as well say UNCONTROLLABLE BREEDING occurrs in various areas of the country where ppl are of low education, income & prospects. Some of these ppl shouldnt be allowed to have children for all sorts of reasons...but in the name of "pro life"...lets let (or force) women to bring children into all kinds of bad situations they didnt ask for :rolleyes2:

I meant to tell you this before lol - When I was working on Batman downtown I happened to be working across the street from our Planned Parenthood - so of course all these wackjobs decided it was a good time to stage a protest. You should have HEARD the crap these people were saying. And physically ASSAULTING people trying to go into PP - as if the only thing PP does is abortions. PP has a group of escorts there to get people safely inside.

There was a policeman stationed with me, and he had some stories... He said one time a man was going inside with his girlfriend/wife and one of the protesters SPIT on her. So the guy punched him. And then the wackjob called the police and wanted them to arrest the guy! The policeman was like, Hell no.

There was even a guy standing out front screaming into the building about how abortion is a racist plot against Black Americans to exterminate them.

You know, I'll acknowledge people's right to their opinion, and if they want to stand there with signs that's one thing, but HARASSMENT and VIOLENCE is just out of line.

i have no clue what you're trying to say are you saying the the government should limit the number of children that couples can have cause that's some bullshit. i was pointing out that Biden was coming off like a real hypocrate & MORON for his statements b/c his own country wages a war (passively in some ways but growing more & more active in others) on women's rights/reproductive rights!

in THEORY- i can understand the idea of a "one child" policy simply b/c i'm not a fan of uncontrolled breeding which is what i see ALOT OF. There are stories about girls making "pregnacy pacts" or "pregnancy rings" in school as early as 7th grade & there'll be 10 or more that deliberately set out to get pregnant...@ the age of 12-13!? WTF!? then you have adults who think having a child will [among other things i hear OFTEN]a) save a marraige b) give them something to live for c)guarantee them public assistance & or access to the country & then you have individuals who just dont care to exercise any kind of caution or sense @ all & have rampant sex & pop these babies out knowing full well they can't take care of them. these babies wind up being abused, left in trash cans or worse. is that any LESS bullshit than the IDEA of a "one child" policy?

what's bullshit to ME is that "pro life" thinking tries to imply its some noble idealogy when its anything but. its JUST as much bullshit as the idea of a "one child" policy might seem to some. where are the pro lifers for these children in situations i mentioned above? adoption isnt a catch all solution. some kids are left languishing in the foster/adoption system until they AGE OUT & the older the child gets, if they're not the "right color" etc...the less likely they will be adopted.

& as i was talking about in my earlier post- do we really need our politicians commenting on another country's policies on reproductive issues when our own has a shameful history & a shady present @ best. look @ the states seeking to ammend theier constitutions banning abortion in ALL cases. look @ how ppl use the "pro life" ideaology to justify harrassment, violence & MURDER? how is that preserving or protecting life?

P.S.- i forgot to mention MTV's '16 & pregnant'...wtf is that!? so now immature young girls getting pregnant is being made glamorous & something to "strive" for? who suffers from that? the babies & yet...where are the pro-lifers then?

i think it's ALL fucked up & while I can understand the THEORY of the "one child" policy, I'm not saying the application or [govt mandated] practice of it is better either.

Yeah I understand the theory of the 1 child policy, but it's failed miserably in practice.

And that 16 and Pregnant show is ludicrous and entire irresponsible programming. If you want to make a show about that, then make it show what a BAD idea getting pregnant at 16 is. Don't glamorize it. They made such a stink about Skins? Well yeah, in Skins, a girl gets pregnant and they actually DEAL with the issue rather than making it seem all sunshine and gumdrops. I'd rather have my teen watch THAT.
