Ok, so everybody know all the great classic monster movies from the great Universal Studios back in the hey day of hollywood... but I just have to ask the question, which one is your absolute favorite and why?

Personally, I'm a fan of the original dracula movies... I know they pretty much set the standard for the whole cliche over-done typical "vampire" such as they are.... but this is the film that defined vampires for generations to come. The classic black cape, sleek hair, and formal appearance has been the classic dracula. Not until recent years with the appearance of films such as Underworld and Queen of the Damned, has the "typical vampire" been remade.

Theres something equally cool and Disturbing about the Phantom of Opera, had to give him my vote.

Going with the vamps all day!!! There is a reason that ther eis a vampire movie every year or two, and it goes back to the man...Bela Lugosi!!!

Dracula has such a twisting, long reaching mythos that is rooted in REALITY. Bram Stocker's Dracula is by far MY FAVORITE interpretation of the story of Dracula to date. it's a modern classic.

but a personal 2nd favorite of mine is "Bride of Frankenstein" :D

Cool thread, Dan. :xyxthumbs:

As much as I love vampires I had to go with The Wolf Man. I always found werewolves far more scarier because they were a raging-mad lunatics especially under the full moon. They have absolutely no control over themselves. There’s no conscious thought just a primal urge to satisfy its blood lust. It doesn’t care who it harms or kills. And I always thought that was creepy and scary, plus you never knew just WHO could be a werewolf.

I do have to give it to vampires though as well because they are sexy, slick, and mysterious. So you can’t help but feel captivated by these creatures of the night. Never growing old and living forever seem pretty glorified to me. Each movie (as Dan said) have changed the way vampires have looked over the years.

Dracula should be the numero uno for being the first, but the movie as a whole don't do too much for me. I prefer Bride of Frankenstein.

Night of the Lepus with Bones from Star Trek.. maybe it's just an Anya moment but murderous wabbits are no joke. Fudd would have fled in terror.

No honestly. Those monsters listed never really bothered me, it was always the real monsters. Rabbits, snakes, spiders- any normal animal that went blood thirsty (not jaws though, I think he was too big) but Cujo, oh damn, Cujo scared the hell out of me. Really. Those are monsters to me.

I can see that, the ordinary turning into something monstrous... I get that.

I guess thats what was so effective about 'The Birds'

Bateman
Bateman
But then also cant forget Jame Gumb from Lambs and John Does from Seven.. those were scary monsters!

I agree, bela lugosi was the man,and is my favourite actor of that genre.
Dracula is the most popular image in cinema, and the most recognisable.
He gets my vote:xyxthumbs:

I wish he was, in a horror class i did this time last year most of the class hadnt seen Dracula.... *rolls eyes*

though there was a few horror geeks in the midst of the class, who wernt taking it as an easy option.
