So, who here travels by airline often?

When I fly, I typically use southwest. They've had the best selection of "non stop" flights from nashville to detroit & their web only ticket rates are pretty competitive. I'm a in their rapid rewards program & i love the fact that they don't charge to check the 1st bag!

It's a shame that they cxl'ed their partnership w/ Hilton Honors for mileage/points though :alison: that was a BIG mistake on their part IMO. If i found another carrier who offered the same selection of flights & the Hilton Honors partnership, I'd switch my loyalty in a heartbeat.

If anyone else here uses southwest, have you tried their "early bird check in" option? i always check in online since they allow you to check in 24 hrs ahead but the last few times I've done this, (despite being primed & ready to hit that check in button right away) I end up getting the "B" group  I prefer to board in the "A" group. The early bird check in says it'll check you in even AHEAD of the 24 hr window & guarantees you'll be in the A group, but all my attempts to find relevant customer feedback/reviews on this option have turned up very little that helps me. It SOUNDS good & the fee is not that bad @ all (especially considering all the OTHER "fees" that airlines pass to customers that are mandatory post 9/11 & dont make any sense) BUT i keep thinking "if everyone ELSE has the same idea about using it...how can it be possible for everyone to get in the "A" boarding group?" & I don't want to pay the cost of "upgrading" to business select b/c it's not like you're getting to sit in a "better" part of the plane w/ that. its still the same floor/cabin & for a couple $100 more...you'll just be @ or near the front where as w/ "early bird check in" you pay $12-$13 fee & the system will automatically check you in & generate a boarding pass ahead of the 24 hr window.

So just wanted to see if anyone on the board had any opinions or info on whether this option is worth it.
