4 earthlings to be selected to colonize Mars

Oh my...

That sounds so sketchy. What if they get sick? What if they need some kind of surgery in the long run? What will they do for food?
 
well it says that the company is lining up contracts for supplies, food & such & the total coast is around the 2 billion mark. they're soliciting private donations toward the effort. still...they're a long ways off from this point & so far, 200,000 ppl have submitted applications to take that one-way trip to mars. i couldnt do it. as interesting & intriguing as it sounds..I just couldn't do THAT myself.

I couldn't either. I'd miss everything WAY too much: pets, shopping, friends, food & drinks, family, internet, etc, etc. I don't care how amazing the view would be!
 
A real life version of dark they were and golden eyed. Huh. I LOVED that short story but somehow I don't think it'd be good live. ;)
 
I said this before and i shall say it again like love scifi/fantasy movies but I'm not going to live one since the black guy always dies first

(However it would be amazing to be the first person on Mars)

Mars inbreeds, whenever someone lands on mars again they will hear the banjo.....
She will be 54 in 2023 so i think birthing more colonists is kinda out of the question, but imagine how it would be. Deliverance in space, sounds like a movie to me :p

This will be very interesting.

I would suggest that whatever they do, it not include someone with traditional views on sex and relationships, male OR female. The last thing you want is someone messing up a Mars mission and killing everyone along with them because they are lonely and cannot get laid or worse, everyone else BUT them is getting some.

I would almost suggest picking as normal and considering someone who would primarily handle JUST that if this were a larger mission. Almost like having a Deanna Troi on board lol...

Well of course. It would be stupid of them to not think of this in advance. Unless they WANT to be celibate until more people come since they are, essentially, the guinea pigs of the whole operation.

You can still have children after 54. :rolleyes: It's weird but it isn't that big of a stretch. But I'm with you on the delivery. That would be something to read about! :haha:


What I'm interested in is if they will keep contact with Earth to see how it's going, how everybody's doing. It would be ludricrous to just 'drop them off' and then they're on their own. I mean, if they want to start sending people up there to live they should really keep an eye on their guinea pigs. Especially if something unforeseen happens and they need help.
 
the amount of radiation that they're going to be soaking up constantly means most of them won't be worrying about children too soon after launch anyway
